Don Welchel, Orioles
Don Welchel was an obscure relief pitcher who got a few innings in 1982-83. There are a couple of shots of him around, including one good color image. Here is his Topps Vault picture.

Here are two options representing his only year in the bigs in '75, and one more since he actually appeared as a 4 panel rookie in the Topps '77 set with the ChiSox....courtesy of Topps Vault. Been looking awhile for this fella..... http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ml#post3747955 |

Duane Theiss 1977
Somebody was looking for him recently - plus he's very scarce. Topps Vault hears our pleas again ;-)

Another Theiss option
Portrait. Looks like their spring training 1978 shoot at West Palm Beach.

Indeed, these are the first color images of Theiss in the majors that I've seen. Slowly but surely, the pieces are coming together of those lean years.

I think that sounds great...I saved my folders but have each pic listed as the player last name_first name_city abbreviation
QUOTE=Buccos.com;3860175]I don't believe there is a *public* listing, it appears 5 or 6 of us are compiling our own personal lists. Reinventing the wheel. Over at Baseball-Birthdays, two guys (TheMendozaLine, and BigYaz) used to do the bulk of the ID'ing a year or two ago, but no one does it any more. I'll help! If we rotate doing the grunt work (typing the ID # and playernames), no one person should be overburdened. I'll start! I'll do the latest one (one from the GQ series), later today. The ones I cannot identify, yinz can pipe in and add to the list. Howzzat sound?[/QUOTE] |

1967 Reggie Jackson (Hiding In Plain Sight)
For an elusive medium-quality image of the Hall of Famer in an un-retouched Kansas City cap, how could I have never looked in the likeliest spot?
He's right there in the Rookies article in the 1968 Street & Smith Baseball Annual, in an image that could only have been taken the year before. Enjoy: |

Of Oakland A's Fairies and Griffins
I was curious since color pictures of Jim Perry and Sonny Siebert as part of the '75 Oakland A's squad have seemed to escape everyone's reach. Might we know if color pics exist for both? It appears both came over in separate May deals just days apart, and add in the 1975 was the career capper for both, I get that they might have been missed as part of the 'usual' photo-taking circuit. (And did I actually see the myth buster Merkle request the same many moons ago?!?).
![]() Again, just curious as I peek at my missing list and wonder how many are truly mythical or not. Thanks in advance! http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ml#post3620006 http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ml#post3156488 Last edited by hobbs11; 04-29-2015 at 02:36 PM. |

Siebert / J. Perry
Siebert is in the SSPC set, capless but clearly in the green A's 1975 uniform - but I've never seen a print of the image, even though there are a lot of photos from the Oakland shoots floating around.
As to Perry, he was not in the Topps files. Their guy in the Bay Area, the impeccable Doug McWilliams, photographed him but apparently the A's had dropped Perry before the negatives had been developed. Color Perry images are in the McWilliams collection which he donated to the HOF Library. |

Ron Roenicke 1984 Padres World Series screenshots
I have looked high and low, but the only photo I ever found of Ron Roenicke with the 84 Padres was a blurry 84 WS screenshot from uniwatch.com that only showed his back. I watched the game film myself and got a couple of screenshots that are a little better. One shows Roenicke with coach Jack Krol, the other doesn't. I haven't improved them in any way, but if there are people here who don't have photoshop I could work on them. Just let me know. Of course, if anyone has anything better of Ron in '84 that would also be nice. Now, if only I can find Eddie Miller with the Padres...

Bob Stoddard Kansas City Royals 1987
Bob Stoddard was a right-handed pitcher who came up with the Seattle Mariners back in the days when that organization was run by incompetents. Bob wasn't blessed with great speed or stuff, so he studied hard, kept books on enemy hitters, and tried to work to their weaknesses. If you don't have a super arm that can work for a while. Bob pitched decently for some pretty awful Mariners squads (1981-1983), but he stopped fooling the hitters after that and bounced from team to team as the last man on the staff. Bob's last season came with the Royals in 1987. There is one pretty good black and white shot of him with KC, and now Topps Vault has provided us with two good color shots of Bob.

Currently on eBay, there is a 1985 Padres calendar for sale. On its cover, the team is lined along the baseline for Series game. Roenicke is clear, but once again, it's mostly his back and backside. There are also some 1984 NLCS programs exclusive to the Padres (not MLB); don't they routinely have photos of everyone?
(It is really fairly sharp, but small. I blew this up 100 percent) Last edited by rico43; 04-30-2015 at 08:28 AM. |
