The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired right-handed relief pitcher Brandon Sproat from the New York Mets in exchange for left-handed reliever Julio Robaina and right-handed pitcher Nate Pearson.
Sproat, 32, who was acquired from the Miami Marlins in the offseason, has pitched in 16 games this season going 4-1 with one save and a 1.98 ERA.
Before that, he broke into the majors with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2024 and moved onto Miami the next season.
In 219 career games/six starts, he owns a 25-11 record with 19 saves and a 2.71 ERA.
The 29-year-old Robaina broke into the majors with the Rangers in 2023 before being acquired by St. Louis in the 2025 Rule 5 draft.
This season, he has pitched in 12 games posting no record or saves and a 4.76 ERA.
In his career, Robaina has pitched in 256 games/31 starts and gone 12-23 with three saves and a 4.98 ERA.
Signed to a minor-league contract in the offseason by St. Louis, Pearson opened the 2030 season at AAA Memphis.
He started eight games for the Redbirds, going 2-4 with a 3.42 ERA.
After being called to the majors, Pearson really struggled.
In his opening start, he failed to record an out while giving up six runs.
His next game was just a little better, as he was ripped for five runs in three innings.
Overall for 2030, at the major-league level, Pearson boasts a 0-2 record and an ERA of 33.00.
For his career, Pearson, 33, who also has pitched in the majors for Toronto, the New York Mets, Boston and San Francisco, is 59-53 with seven saves and a 4.53 ERA in 253 games/175 starts.
