Eusebio Gonzalez

Eusebio "Papo" Gonzalez was mainly a second baseman, but he also played the other infield positions as well as the outfield during his lengthy career in Cuba. His Negro League connection came with the All Cubans team in 1920 or 1921. This is the same Eusebio Gonzalez who had a cup of coffee with the Boston Red Sox in 1918. He is shown here in the uniform of the Almendares, Cuba, team.

Wallace Gordon

Wallace Gordon was an outfielder, third baseman, and shortstop for the Cuban Giants from 1907 to 1909 plus 1911 and 1913. From 1910 to 1915, he also played on the following Negro League teams: New York Black Sox, New York Lincoln Giants, Indianapolis ABCs, Brooklyn All Stars, and Chicago Black Sox. He is shown here in an unidentified uniform. Update: The uniform is that of the Cuban Giants.

Ben Harris

Ben Harris was a pitcher with the Indianapolis ABCs, Columbus Buckeyes, and Chicago American Giants in 1921. He is shown here in an unidentified uniform. This player was referred to as Unknown-first-name Harris in the Negro Baseball Register, by Clark and Lester, and in James Riley's encyclopedia.

Babe Herron

Elmer Freeman "Babe" Herron was an outfielder for the Indianapolis ABCs from 1907 through 1913. He is shown here in an unidentified uniform. He was referred to as Unknown-first-name Herron in the Negro Baseball Register, by Clark and Lester. Update: This shot is from a 1911 Indianapolis ABC's team photo, so the uniform is from that team.

W. Higbee

W. Higbee was a pitcher and outfielder for the Indianapolis ABCs from 1908 through 1913. He is shown here in an unidentified uniform. I suspect that this photo and the photo of Babe Herron above both came from an ABCs team photo, but I haven't been able to demonstrate that yet. The Negro Baseball Register, by Clark and Lester, refers to this player as Unknown-first-name Highbee (sic). Update: I've now confirmed that this shot came from a 1911 Indianapolis ABCs team photo.

William Kelley

William "King" Kelley, OF, is shown in the uniform of the Cuban Giants. This appears to me to be the same player as I posted as Unknown-first-name Kelley last month. Seamheads.com indicates that William Kelley played with the Cuban Giants in 1900. The Unknown-first-name Kelley, who played outfield, short, and third according to Clark and Lester, was with the Cuban Giants in 1905 and the "Genuine Cuban Giants" in 1900.

Alonzo Perry

Alonzo Perry, P/1B, is shown in the uniform of the Birmingham Black Barons. This is a better photo of him in a Black Barons uniform than the two I've posted previously, but the obvious problem with it is that it doesn't show the Black Barons' insignia because he is wearing a jacket. It comes from a photo which depicts him with two teammates who are wearing Black Barons uniforms with the Birmingham emblems on display.

Jose Maria Magrinat

Jose Maria Magrinat was an outfielder with the Cuban Stars of Havana for most of the 1908-13 period, for the All Cubans in 1911, and the Cuban Stars in 1916. This information is from Seamheads.com. His career is very similar to that of Hector Magrinat, as described in James Riley's encyclopedia and in The Negro League Register by Clark and Lester. Those two references do not mention Jose Maria Magrinat. This makes me think that Jose Maria and Hector may well be the same player, but since I have no proof of that, I'm treating them as separate players. I previously posted a photo of Hector as an umpire.
