Craig Skok 1973

This is a white whale - the unsuccessful Boston prospect during his very brief (nine game) stay in Texas in 1976.

Hank Small 1978

Another one you've probably never seen before. Hank Small, first baseman for the Atlanta Braves in exactly one game in September, 1978 (I think this shot is from spring training 1979, possibly 1980).

First ATL color photo ever seen of Small. Atlanta boy who had one-game career and died in 2010 at age 56. One of the biggest white whales among Braves collectors next to Wenty Ford (color) and Al Santorini (Braves uni). Today is a good day.

Hank Small

Having searched for a color photo of Mr. Small for some time, this is welcome indeed. To any Braves or other uniform experts out there - is there ANY chance the Braves wore these red jerseys in 1978 spring training??

Almost None

Certainly in the sense that the photo was not TAKEN in 1978. This is representative of the Braves cards in the 1979 Topps set - all the images taken in Spring Training are in the home pinstripes

Meanwhile, in 1980

These are the Topps Braves cards - where every image taken during Spring Training 1979 is clearly in the same red top Small is posed in. It's pretty clear the Small images date to March, 1979.

Not only did BG Smith play for the 1962 Mets, the previous season he'd been with the Phillies and their 23-game losing streak. After a month as a Met, he was swapped to the Cubs (the 9th-place, 103-loss, "College of Coaches" Cubs) before being reprieved with a trade to Cardinals at the end of July. The man played a lot of bad baseball for a lot of bad teams.

Still, that's no reason to picture him with a purple sky, so I fiddled a bit. I think it's an improvement…of sorts.

I don't have long to fine-tune it, but how about this one?

EDITED TO ADD: Had a little more time this evening so I tinkered a bit more with the color balance.

More Dodgers, more help (please)

There are a couple of Dodgers who are all that remain in filling the IDs of some Topps Folders, as well as a couple more in the massive BC folder we are bringing to its knees slowly but surely.

The last barrier to Folder GQ, listed between Andrews and Anderson!

Oooh, that's nice work on the BG Smith, Scott! How do you do that? I add blue to counter the red in the sky (other alternatives being to kill the saturation or increase the brightness, but neither seemed workable here) and then green to fix the flesh tone, but that usually messes up the uniform. You've got sky/skin/shirt all in alignment, especially in your first version, I think. Good work! And thanks.

Ken Smith 1981

Four images of him posted by Topps - more than his years in the majors as yet another obscure Atlanta first baseman

Not a whale of any color, but really great-looking Bob L. Miller in new TV batch.

Did a quick color correction/cleanup on it....

Keith Smith - UIN 1977

Pictured here in either '79 or '80, it's good to see the folks at Topps at least snapped a photo of him while with the Cards. He received a 4-panel job after coming up with the Rangers as part the '78 set after 65+ ABs. And while Donruss and Fleer both gave him cards after the promise he had shown by hitting .350 and .295 in the Cards farm system, alas Topps did not produce a solo card for him after a handful of bats across two seasons with St Louis.

P.S. Big thanks to keonleafs, in helping me months back locate his Texas image that was published on the TV folders.
