Here are 3 pics of Carl, the first one from an Expos postcard set, the other 2 from Montreal mag and newspaper.

The oft-requested shots of Granny Hamner and Willie Jones with the 1959 Indians are a little easier to see today. The team photo that tnfoto posted a rough copy of in this post was released by Topps this week. (GT707, to be precise.) I've de-yellowed it and brightened it a bit.

As the legend notes, Hamner's in the first row, two down from Billy Martin, and Jones is in the back, next to Minnie Minoso. Enjoy.

Random White Sox

Found a site formerly used by Chicago Fantasy Baseball Camps (hasn't been updated since 2011) and they had some nice pictures of the ex-Sox who had served as coaches. Figured I'd throw a few of the larger ones out here.

And Ken Kravec (c. 1977; lesser quality, but what the heck, I had room for one more picture in the post, so I used it)

And by "c. 1991", I meant "1990", of course.

Just realized that's Comiskey Park in the background of the Grebeck picture, above, so it has to be 1990, during the Sox' final season before moving to Cellphone Field or whatever that place is called.

I also noticed that Grebeck, #14, is holding a #21 bat. Which belonged to…Matt Stark?? Hell of a place to be looking for spare hits, Little Hurt. I'm pretty sure if there were any hits in that bat, Stark wouldn't have been facing the end of his career.

Getty has six of him here... if you're not familiar with that site, click the thumbnails and then the "embed" icon (</>) in the new window and you'll get an un-watermarked 594px image.

Wow, I did not know that trick with the "embed" icon to avoid the watermark. Thanks, John!

1886 St. Louis Maroons

There are several low-quality scans of the 1886 St. Louis Maroons team cabinet floating around the web. Does anyone have a larger or higher quality image of that team? I'm mostly interested in getting an improved image of Charlie Sweeney.

Dick K. Smith 1969

One of the all time great white whales, a career minor leaguer who made 33 plate appearances over the last month of the season for the 1969 Washington Senators.

Dick Smith Statistics and History | Baseball-Reference.com

Autographed versions of the image, which were in Smith's collection (because nobody else has ever produced a color image of him), are up for sale at https://www.abcunlimited.net - I've bought one and will produce a better scan once it gets here. This low-resolution version will suffice in the interim.

Free blubber for everybody.

Hello...Newman

Ray Newman got himself on a Topps card in 1972 after pitching in 30 games for the '71 Cubs. He also saw a handful of games with the Brewers in 1972 and 1973. I know of him because of what happened inbetween--traded from Chicago to Milwaukee in exchange for Floyd Weaver and Odis McCowan. And I know that because McCowan was a Seattle Pilots minor leaguer in 1969 and a pair of McCowan Pilots images had escaped from the Vault, which made me want to find out all about my man Odis. Odis never played for the Cubs or, indeed, within their system. There were substance abuse issues later, but I'm not sure how far back those went.

Anyway, the other guy from the deal...the one guy who actually did log some time in the majors--as Cub and Brewer from the most recent Vault release.

Larry Murray 1974

Seldom-seen pinch running specialist and backup outfielder beginning with the Yankees in 1974. To Oakland in 1977.

Larry Murray (Oakland)

And after the trade to the A's that netted New York Mike Torrez. This would be from spring training 1978 or 1979.

A Dick Smith Postscript

That white whale beached itself in May!

Richard Smith?s baseball journey ? Lincoln Times-News | Lincoln Times-News

Smith's month in the majors was recounted by his local newspaper. And shown were not only that '69 color shot at RFK Stadium (which might be a J.D. McCarthy postscript pose) but an image from this year - with his own signature model Louisville Slugger:

Some names of the players in the '59 Indians team picture were smudged or erased somehow. Do you have any idea who these now uncredited players are?

Pitcher, Jerry Spradlin - from the Philadelphia Phillies 1997 Yearbook.
One of the very few Jerrys in club history (that is closing in on 2,000 players).
