I claimed a player on waivers and they have a NMC (Temporary). Is this a new feature? How long does his NMC last?

Yes, it's new. It'll last until the end of the season.

As I understand it, it's a coding workaround to account for the 'real world' rule of not being able to move a player you claimed on waivers unless you offer him back to the original team first. At the moment, there's no way to get the AI to play ball with this.

Also, it plugs the exploit of acquiring a bunch of players off waivers and then flipping them for one or two really good assets.

How far up the list is fixing the scouting? I like playing historical, but ever since FHM7 was in beta, I've been drafting blind, not a single player being scouted. Seems like a pretty big component in a management sim.

I think I remember you saying that when I put a player in a role and he doesn't understand it, he will revert to his preferred style of play. How do I find out what that is? When they say they don't understand I try all the ones he is highest rated in but that doesn't fix it.

Also, is there a reason why a player either doesn't have a question or says he understands what I want him to do when he asks, suddenly says he can't understand in a later match when I haven't changed any tactics or roles?

It should be the role he's rated highest at, and if there's a tie, as long as he has any of those roles he shouldn't get that message. But I think something may be going wrong there - I noticed tonight that I got the message for a player whose tactical role was his highest-rated one, and that shouldn't happen. We're going to have to take a look at what's going on there.

I'm playing an historical game I carried over from FHM 7 and I like to make my own player and staff pictures to replace those in the folders. However, the only one that seems to stick is Denis Potvin. The rest, including the GM, have to be replaced every time I restart the game. I have also replaced the rink icons and awards, but they stay in the game. Any suggestions are very welcome. Thanks a bunch.

I don't use it, but I would try messing with File > Options > Facegen Settings and seeing if turning something off there would stop it.

I see a new field in the post-game analysis is "Didn't Stay In His Assigned Role". What stats/attributes dictate this? Do players have roles they prefer to play in, and if so, where may I find that information?

Edit: Ah I see this is being discussed just above. I will investigate and try to find out what's going on as I was definitely getting players choosing roles that were equal/inferior to the ones I gave them.

Edit 2: I'd also like to add that the "On Ice Decisions" feature is very cool but seems to skew the games to extremes. My scores while using it are 8-0W, 8-5L, 12-1W. The choice to pass seems to work out a little too often and the sim doesn't do much in between passes.

I like the new 'Assigned Role' feature. That said, my only (hopefully constructive) criticism would be the frequency with which the same players keep appearing.

First you take the time to explain a player's desired role, then you're told they seem to understand, then (in the very next game), the same player is confused once again about his role. Seems a bit soon, like the poor guy is suffering from short-term memory loss.

Is there any way this could be tweaked so as not to be so repetitive with the same cast of characters?

A couple of quick Q's

I have never gotten this correct or my head wrapped around it. If I want goaltenders to alternate starts-or close to it, what is the best combo to use on the goalie starts page?

Secondly the league I have created I want the players to not be greedy-I have never messed with this setting, is a higher number more or less greedy?

Relegation in Germany seems to be active for the first time in FHM 8, great!

Some DEL2 Teams have parent teams in the DEL. If a team is promoted from DEL2 to the DEL, will the affiliation be canceled? (Playing in challange mode) It would be weird, if any team has a farm team or parent team in the same league.

I am curious why goalies go so fast in the WHL draft. Today I had 7 goalies go in the top 12 picks.

Also, never any stud players coming out of Alaska ever

Seems to be happening in all the junior leagues, we'll take a look at that.

Re: Alaska, I think I see the problem there, a data change is setting all the generated players in the Western US to Washington birthplaces. Same thing is happening in a couple of other places, fixing it now.

I'm guessing one of the other places was southwest US. It's only Colorado players now. There used to be a lot of Texas kids.

No. The draft will always take place in early July but free agents will wait until after the draft to decide where they sign.

Is there any hidden logic for how long a NHL team keeps a prospect up until they burn a year of the ELC?

I've noticed, time and time again, that an NHL team will sign one of my team's best players, keep them up on the big club but barely play them.

Then eventually they might reassign them back down to my junior team. Just on it's face, I feel like real NHL teams are very picky about how they develop top junior players. They usually make that decision pretty early in the season.

This particular stud, Brandon Norris, was signed immediately after being a 2nd round pick, kept on the team the whole season with only 24 games and 7 mins avg. TOI. He picked up 3 points and was a minus 9. Assigned back to my WHL team on April 3 after I missed the playoffs.

I really could have used this kid all season if the Dallas Stars weren't going utilize him well. I'd have to go back and check, but real NHL teams don't usually immediately sign 2nd round picks and develop them like this.
