More Barney
My color-fixing skills for the Vault pics still need improving; anyone who can do better is welcome to do so. |

Still more Barney
1959 Tigers picture, previously uploaded by tnfoto. Cubs pic. Old-Timers' Day, Busch Stadium 1970. If you hang in for 45 years after you're attending old-timers' days, you're doing okay. (Of course, Red Schoendienst is even older and he's still working for the team. Red's so old he batted against a pitcher who was born in the 19th century. Red batted against someone who was teammates with someone who pitched against someone who pitched to Cap Anson. He's only four degrees of separation from the National Association.) (Answers to the "someones", below.) As Schoendienst's pitching coach, 1971-1975 (Schoendienst had 6 ABs in 1945 against Hod Lisenbee [b. 1898]. Lisenbee's first year in the majors was when he went 18-9 for the 1927 Senators, which was Walter Johnson's last season. Walter pitched against Cy Young. Young pitched to Anson.) I just wish I could find a picture of the young Barney, during his first stint with the Cardinals, in 1955. |

If you repost a photo I took in 1977 and posted here - could you at least credit it correctly?
On the second point I said nothing about Topps Vault reposting their negatives. Why would they? How could they? They post them in order to sell them on eBay. Once sold, Topps has no interest not access to them. What I said was that they often post additional negatives of players they have auctioned months or years earlier. |

I merely posted a photo which was requested. I don't keep records of where I obtained a photo. I'm sorry your feelings got hurt. |

There is a lot of this, though. The first (the tiny one) is bx650 and the second is GI081. Now maybe these were shots taken a nano-second apart in the same session, but I'm hard pressed to see how they aren't the same photo.

A Strange Topps Vault Photo....
This should really go in the minor-league thread, forgive me.
Topps posted this on eBay today -- it's billed as a 1975 Vault photo of Twins minor-leaguer Juan Veintidos, and indeed appears to be the photo used on Veintidos' portion of his '75 rookie card. But what in the name of Ron Herbel's missing Mets cap is going on here? It looks an awful lot like a newspaper or media-guide photo with the portion needed for the card hastily colorized. Did Topps miss Veintidos and make do with whatever they could get? Never seen a Vault photo like this one and am curious. |

Colorized team-issued B&W shot. Virtually every Topps image before 1957 is one of these, plus dozens thereafter. I believe the last ones date to 1978 (Greg Minton, Paul Molitor, Mike Paxton) and 1980 (Bill Paschall, Bert Roberge) but there may be more recent ones.
A Topps artist would hand-tint the print, then they'd photograph it several times and create a series of negatives like the one of Veintidos. This means there are probably multiple copies of this negative - unlike photos Topps took themselves. |

BTW, this is another TV dupe. Though, on this one, I think the one in your post (HK718) is the original while EL926 (attached) is a picture of the original (its a way of dealing with the newspaper pixelation (is that a word?). As someone who colorizes on occasion, I actually think they did a pretty good job on that one. True, even as a kid pulling that rookie card out of a pack, I knew something was amiss with that picture. But newspaper photos aren't exactly suited for colorization. |

I went 'net surfing to see if I could find the story. Didn't. But a guy at a Twins blog recalls that Veintidos had a breakout season in the minors in '74 (after sucking in the Mets system for years, I might add). He was not only expected to make the team in '75, he did (according to this blogger). He doesn't say how long he was with the big club, but that he was sent down before getting into a game. Then he imploded in the minors and that was that. Sadly, Mr. Veintidos is NOT a member of the Sharman Society. Not only did he not make the Twins out of spring training in 1975, he wasn't even among the final cuts (he and others were cut March 28, bringing the squad to 28). Bummer. I was digging the story.

![]() It's been 9 months since I've had to say anything about this but the message is timeless. Wherever possible we need to take care to do basic due diligence before posting so that we properly attribute photos. As I said in the linked post, do your best. It's especially easy to find images sourced from this forum. A very quick name search using the "Search this Thread" link at the top of each page will turn up virtually all of the photos that have already been posted here. For a more comprehensive look, including all of the threads on the forum, use the "Advanced Search" option in the "Search" drop-down. In most cases a link back to the original post (Kekich, for example) is preferable to a re-post of the photo. Thanks again to all who share.
