Although nothing official has appeared online, it's being reported that Kevin Collins passed away February 20. The source is former teammate Jim Gosger.

Collins was an infielder with the Mets, Expos and Tigers. He finished his career in the farm system of the Indians in 1974.

Collins was a good young player who, because of the bonus rules at the time, was on the Mets opening day roster in 1965. He was 18. Even Collins would later say, "I never should have been there. It was probably the worst thing for my development." Just as he was to make his major league debut, he injured his shoulder in warm-ups. So Collins went to the DL and the Mets, taking advantage of the opportunity, activated Yogi Berra. But his real place in Mets lore is that, in 1969, he was part of the package the Mets sent to Montreal to acquire Donn Clendenon--considered "the final piece" of the Miracle Mets. According to sportswriter Jack Lang, Collins was the player the Expos most wanted in the deal (they also got Steve Renko, Jay Carden, and a minor league pitcher named Dave Colon, who never pitched for anyone after 1968).

No, that's not a dunce cap he's wearing. Instead he is sporting a Masonic hat along with his Red Sox uniform.

The occasion was the Masonic All-Star Game between teams of American Leaguers and National Leaguers in Trenton, NJ on October 12, 1935. The game was billed as the greatest collection of baseball stars the city had ever seen. HOFers in uniform that day included Jimmie Foxx, Lefty Grove, Waite Hoyt, and Herb Pennock. Price of a ticket to see the game: $1.10. For $3, one could attend the game, dine at a post-game banquet, and attend an evening show.

Should have known that from the tilt of the world. When that particular negative or transparency was offered on eBay, there was no watermark. However, the image offered on eBay was also cropped to be much thinner than this current eBay autograph offering (which is also much sharper than the lo-res image Topps posted to eBay back then), which suggests this print is from the original negative or transparency and not something that was blown up from an eBay image (and, yes, I've seen plenty of those).

Speaking of which, what's the explanation for the "Topps lean" in their vintage photos? Just a stylistic choice, or is there a reason for it that my feeble brain can't process? Have always wondered.
