I was looking for a color pic of Chris Nyman as part of the 1982 ChiSox squad.

Terry D, in searching the web universe I located an excerpt from John's former and exceptional site where you were discussing this very image request with FatJack around this time last year.

I just can't pull up the image. Might you (or others if they have one) be able to share it? Thanks in advance!

Alas, I think it may be on a laptop that is in the shop. I will check my jump drives too, but it may be a few days. I have him in the 76-81 uniform as well, will post both when I get 'em.

I have this one of Nyman, but not with the 1982 uni...probably from a precedent spring training. Sadly, I don't remember where I took it.

Hi everybody!

First, I wanted to thank everybody who had a "mitt" in any of the work putting up all those vault pics...a million thanks!!!

Second, I know this is a super dumb question and probably nobody knows, but I'll ask it anyhow. I've looked through all the folders from A-U but I didn't see any of these: Don Money, Willie Montanez, and Deron Johnson as Phillies or even any of the other teams. I'm probably blind as a bat, but I don't remember them.

While I can find no Don Money or Willie Montanez, Deron Johnson has 6 Vault images in the JB folder.

JB161-162 Brewers
JB163-164 Phillies (1970)
JB165-166 Yankees

(Please note that I mislabeled these Johnson images as "Daron" Johnson. You might want to correct that, if you're grabbing the images from here. Just sayin'.)

Considering how many of these folders are alphabetical, pretty amazing that there is nothing of Money and Montanez, but there are 27 of Bill Monbouquette!

Vicente Romo, 1969 Cleveland Indians, posted to eBay by andy1921... I did not realize that after playing in the majors from 1968 through 1974, Romo went to Mexico for seven seasons before returning to the bigs with the 1982 Dodgers.

Horacio Pina, 1974 Chicago Cubs, posted to eBay by andy1921... obviously not a great image, but it's the first color image of him in a Cubs uniform.

Remember this annoying Flexichrome, BC2522, which no one could quite ID. It might be Jay Hook, was the best I recall from our posts last year.



Here is a Lexibell image find of Hal Jeffcoat, with April, 1959, on the back. It so close to the flexichrome, we can at least assure the former was originally done in April, 1959, as well.



There were eight right-handers with the Reds in '59: Purkey, Hook, Pena, Brosnan, Schmidt, Acker, Mabe and Jeffcoat. Jeffcoat was traded for Brosnan in June. Hook began the year in the minors, plus he wore No. 47.
Taking the leap of faith that the partial number is the actual game jersey, it would seem to eliminate Purkey (37), Schmidt (44), Mabe (35) and it certainly doesn't resemble Pena, who has several other photos from the era.
That leaves the liklihood that the flexichrome is Tom Acker (40) or Jeffcoat (42), but Jeffcoat's socks don't match.

For comparison's sake, here's a photo of Acker:

You know what happens when you assume. I think its fair to say the pictures relate to the same piece of real estate. That has nothing to do with WHEN they were taken. Please note that the uniforms are obviously from different years. The Lexibell picture features solid color socks and a striped uniform (and cap) while the Vault imafe features the opposite--striped socks and no stripes on the home uni (or cap). Those changes were made in 1958. The only year where the uniform from the Vault shot was in use (supposedly) was 1957.

So, just for example, the Vault shot could be Hersh Freeman. Freeman was #30. Acker was also on the '57 squad, but I don't think you can conclusively show that it is he--especially not when your analysis is based upon 1959, which the Vault image clearly is not. I think the eyebrows are more consistent with Freeman (set lower than Acker's), but my facial recognition abilities are lousy, so I'll leave it to others.
