The Cornejos are a nice addition, though Merkle himself kindly brought us one a while back. And never seen a Topps shot of Corcoran as a Met.

Clint Compton 1972
Drafted in the 3rd round in 1968 by the Braves, then traded to the Angels in 1969 with Mickey Rivers for Hoyt Wilhelm and finally a Rule 5 draft by the Cubs in 1971. Played only 1 game in the bigs, with the 1972 Cubs

Jeff Cornell 1984
Going to go with this one as "tentative" just because there are so few head shots of this one-year Giant to bet money on the ID.

Any chance 267-268 is Raul "The Grand Boogie" Colon (Tigers prospect, at Class AA Montgomery from 1972-75)?
A popular figure in the Mexican League when he left the US, he hit .310 or better each year from 1975-1979 Last edited by rico43; 04-13-2016 at 09:31 PM. |

Correct. Not his first Topps Vault image.

Now - Who's This?
(Correct answer as noted below is outfielder Mark S. Corey, once of Baltimore, only in camp with San Francisco).

Charlie Corbell
Looks like Charlie Corbell to me. Charlie was a non-roster invitee to the Giants' spring camp in 1986, so it would make sense that he would be included in the Topps Vault. Note: Don't know why the Tacoma Tigers card pictured him as a lefty, given that the back of the card and all other evidence indicated that he was a righty. Perhaps he was just playing around in front of the camera.

There's a prominent mole on the right cheek, visible on the Tacoma card and in other shots of Corbell. No sign of it on the mystery Giant - who also seems a touch stockier.
As to the lefty pose, he's also batting in the Phoenix card, suggesting he had "mess with the photographer" syndrome. |

Mark Corey 1979
Mark Corey was in the Giants' spring camp in 1984. The attached clipping is from the Rochester (NY) Democrat and Chronicle of February 26, 1984. I found other articles reporting on his playing in spring training games with the Giants. The attached photo of Mark is from his Evansville baseball card, and seems to match our unidentified Topps Vault Giant in his nose, chin shape, and dimples. I think Merkle's comment about Corbell's having a mole on his face, but our unidentified Giant missing one, was a reasonable doubt causing the need to look elsewhere.

The irregularity on the top of his right eyebrow is the clincher for me. Well done.
Now, about today's batch... |

Marlan Coughtry 1962
Three teams, one year, no waiting - and it looks like he just spotted the GM approaching to tell him he's been dealt again.

1967 Angel Hermoso
In his rarely seen final season with the 1974 Indians (though he was also on the active roster, no appearances, 1975)

What's in a (Hispanic) name?
1976-80 Pirates outfield prospect Eugeniuo (or, Eugenio, as it's spelled on his lone card) Cotes, pictured in color (unlike the rookie card).
