Bobby Bonds 1968
Not a lot of him in color as the "rent-a-slugger" of the 1978 White Sox:

Bobby Bonds 1968
Also little - save for his '79 card and some watermarked Getty action images - of him with the team the White Sox unloaded him to, Texas:

Bob Hendley TV's -- Milw. Braves
Check out the bidding war on the Bob Hendley TV's. I could get a decent TV (television) for the price of those two images.

Question resolved - sorta
Quote:
https://onedrive.live.com/?authkey=%...28C60404F00FB3 Indeed, through the downloads available on that page, I did find many of the images I was seeking. However, a couple of the Topps Vault folders on that page are not as extensive as listed in Rico's inventory. For example, folder BJ only goes as high as 865, and I'm interested in photos 969 and 970. Folder EM rises only to 012, i.e. there are very few photos in that folder. Is there any other source for Topps Vault photos which are listed in Rico's inventory, but not found on the above website? |

"Farmer" James Burns 1901
Burns pitched exactly one inning in the major leagues, for the St. Louis Cardinals on July 6, 1901; he allowed one run on two hits, one walk, and one hit batsman. |

Ichiro Nabs 500th MLB Stolen Base
April 29, 2016: Ichiro Suzuki, active leader in Stolen Bases, gets his 500th career steal.
He ranks 38th all-time in SB (according to baseball-reference.com). He also had two hits to increase his career total to 2,945 Hits to move past Frank Robinson into 32nd place on the Career Hits list . Last edited by dennis_keith; 04-30-2016 at 11:03 AM. |

Some of the early checklists were compiled by pioneers who may not be active on these boards any longer. But to this point, I have found everything I've looked for; it will be late tonight before I can pursue yours. In case I can find what you were looking for, send me an email address and I will put together a zipfile(s) with the missing images and will also send John the full Folder to add to the OneDrive archive. E.G. Folder BJ DOES only go as high as 865. That's it and that's all there ever was in Folder BJ. 969-970 (Don Ross and Gene Ross) are in Folder BK. On both the list and in the One Drive rar file, Folder EM goes to 999. Folder EN only contains 12 images (though they aren't numbered that way) and that is all it ever contained. It's likely the other numbers assigned to EN, which has never been at the Auction Helper site, were assigned to blank backs and the other stuff Topps Vault sells. It's only recently that they've even attempted to separate player images from their other offerings, so you'd get files with 900 items but only 10 or 12 player images. BUT, importantly, in the One Drive file, EN is combined with EP, so there are more images in that file than 12, but only 12 are folder EN. What you see is what you get. Every image we know about should be in the One Drive files. There may have been some earlier files among the ones that Topps never parked at the Auction Helper site where, as Rico said, photo images were tiny and such lo rez as to be unusable so they weren't saved. OTOH, of the folders parked by TV, Rico went through and identified such images and those were subsequently saved. I hope I'm not confusing you more but its all there, as far as I can tell. I just think you may be reading the list wrong. |

Mike Lynch 1902
Michael Joseph Lynch (not to be confused with the pitcher named Michael Joseph Lynch who was a rookie in 1904) played seven games as a center fielder for the Chicago Remnants (Cubs) in April and May of 1902, his only major league appearances. His minor league career extended through 1914. Last edited by RUKen; 05-01-2016 at 11:49 AM. |

So funny. I've been looking for one of those of Pryor as well. I did not find it in his Topps file years ago - but then again as some of the recent postings have proved anew, that doesn't mean they didn't shoot him in '77.

Roy Brashear 1902
Brashear played first base, second base, shortstop, and the outfield for the Cardinals in 1902. In 1903 he appeared in a few games for the Phillies, and then he disappeared from the major leagues. He continued his career in the minors through 1914. Below are two images of him, one with a glove and one with a bat. |

On Hendley
The inexplicable bidding portends nothing about how many negatives Topps will sell. They view these as space-wasters. If they sell at the $10 minimum bid you don't need to sell that many of them to justify the three-person operation that is "Topps Vault." Certainly you justify the man-hours-to-income ratio when you consider those three people handle everything Topps sells on eBay.
As to why the Hendleys went for that price I can only offer an experience I had about a decade ago when I spotted among the Topps Vault eBay postings, an unissued proof of the late relief pitcher and coach Jim Brewer. It had a photo different from the regular card (Brewer was pulling a Tom Seaver and posing with his glove on the wrong hand). The bidding got pretty spirited and neared four figures - so I figured another collector had recognized the new "find." And then Topps put up a second version of the same card in better shape so I bid on that and the same thing happened. After I won that auction I got an agonized eBay message from the underbidder reading "Why? Why? I'm just trying to get a new picture of my father!" The other bidder was Jim Brewer's son. His motives for overpaying for this card were entirely different from mine (so, happily, since I still had access to the archives at this point I went in and borrowed all of the Brewer images, about 30, and printed them up for him). Anyway, the point is that the incredible prices probably have nothing to do with our interests in a Bob Hendley negative. Might just be a real Braves collector versus a Hendley relative. Or, who knows what combination. |

The thing I love about colorizations is that, the more you do, the better you can get. And the better you get, the better you want to get. At least that's been my experience.
Mind you, the point of this post is that there are many many others out there of whose work I am in absolute awe. I'm a hobbyist; folks like ortforshort are artists (IMO). I just came across this on line. This is a colorization from Marina Amaral. She does this professionally. In her "about" section, she mentions photoshop, but I don't know if that's the software and/or the only software she uses. And this was the only sports photo I could find. She is largely focused on historical images, most of which are far more complex than this one (which makes them all the more impressive). Her work is the best I've ever seen and, while I doubt I could ever be a hundredth as good, it nonetheless inspires me to try harder and get better. |
