Lew Camp

Based on the drawing of Camp which tnfoto posted on the following page:

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...te=1&p=4032076

and the fact that Camp was six feet tall, I would guess that Camp is the fellow standing at the far left in the Sioux City photo. But trying to make an identification based on a comparison with a drawing can only be considered a guess.

1894 Sioux City Photo

Here's a crack at all the players:

Top row (L to R):

Lew Camp (?), George Hogriever, Bumpus Jones, Art Twineham (He was 6'1.5" tall), Frank Pears (?), Frank Genins, Bill Hart or Al McCauley (couldn't decide on that one)

Bottom row (L to R):

Lefty Marr, Ace Stewart, Bert Cunningham, Manager Bill Watkins, Frank Kraus (don't know what minor league Kraus looks like, but he has a catcher's mitt, and Twineham is already identified)

Charlie Reilly 1889
Reilly played for Columbus 1889-90, Pittsburg 1891, and Philadelphia 1892-95. After a season in the Eastern League, he played one last major league season for Washington in 1897. After that, he played in the Western League for three seasons, and joined a touring team after the 1900 season had ended. He chose to wear his 1897 Washington uniform for a group photo (and presumably for the games he played in); this image is an excerpt from that group picture.

Bill Hart 1886

This image of Pitcher William F. "Bill" Hart was taken from a different team photo of the 1894 Sioux City squad. This team photo was published in a SABR issuance named ROAD TRIPS, published in 2004 and edited by Jim Charlton. Because Hart was one of only three players featured in the photo's caption and because he bears a strong resemblance to the player standing at the right of the 1894 Sioux City photo on the previous page of this thread, I'm moving away from my wavering on that identification and choosing Hart over McCauley.

Mike Ramsey Cardinals

Trying to find a nice color image of Ramsey, preferably from his early days with St. Louis, 1978 would be ideal. There don't seem to be any floating around, and those that are all appear to be from the latter part of his time there. Thanks!

Mike Ramsey 1978

Not from year one, but from 1980, taken by yours truly.

Now - find a color shot of him during his week with the '85 Dodgers.

And a second Ramsey

Same time frame, probably August or September, 1980.

Atlanta Athletics?

This photo has been listed on eBay by seller jcm331... from spring training in 1958, Hal Smith of the Kansas City A's slides into home against Elston Howard of the Yankees. Note the KC batting helmets with a modern day Atlanta-style "A". This Wikipedia article states (yes, I know) that the American League had passed a rule on March 1 of that year requiring the use of batting helmets. I don't think I've ever seen these particular KC helmets before.

Topps Vault changes

Thanks to a Hall of Famer who went through the Vault and found a few changes needed.

GE 879-880 Dennis Hood
GT 742-743 Jerry Spencer
HK 977-978 Rick Steirer
HU 693-694 Howie Goss
JB 645-646 Mike Baxes

JB 255 Dalton Jones, not Tom Jones

HN 599 is ID'd as Steve Padilla. No idea where that came from, but there is no one by that name in Baseball Reference. Who, then?

Padia

Had another nominee, but Padia's an absolute match.

Padia in Orioles' Camp in 1986

Under the headline ".. Cuts From Orioles Camp", the Rochester (NY) Democrat and Chronicle of March 22, 1986 reported that catcher Steve Padia had been assigned to the Orioles minor league camp. Subsequently, on March 31, Padia was traded to the Twins as part of the deal which brought Mike Hart to the Orioles.

John Butler 1901
Butler appeared in one game for Milwaukee in 1901 (under the name Frederick King), twelve games for the Cardinals in 1904, one game for Brooklyn in 1906, and thirty for Brooklyn in 1907 to finish his major league career. He continued in the minor leagues through 1911.
