Lou Brock - Montreal Expos
This picture is actually on sale on eBay by seller kylesportscards.
A few questions: Is Lou Brock the player featured on this image? I never heard of Brock working for the Expos. Any explanation? Of course Lou (with the Cardinals) was the first player ever to bat in a regular-season major league game in Canada, when Montreal hosted its first game on April 14, 1969 at Parc Jarry. The only info I could find on the Internet was that Brock wore an Expos uni for Old Timers functions. Lot 113. Lou Brock St. Cloud Rox, Montreal Expos and "Brock" Jerseys ~ The Lou Brock Collection < Sports < Fall 2014 - Lelands Any information will be appreciated. Thanks! |

Corrected Photo: Frank "Red" Madden 1914 Pittsburgh Federal League
The previous photo of Frank Madden in the Photopack is actually Gene Madden of the 1916 Syracuse squad.
The correct photo of Frank "Red" Madden is sourced from the 1911 Duquesne University team photo in the 1912 Spalding College Guide. ![]() |

Corrected Photo: George Hogan 1914 Kansas City Federal League
Another corrected photo, this time George Hogan. The previous photopack photo was of Timothy Hogan of the Jackson Convicts. Our George Hogan pitched as George Robbins from 1909 to 1912 for Lexington in the BlueGrass League and whose image can be found in the 1910 and 1911 Reach Guide team photos for Lexington.

1912 Detroit Tiger replacement player Vincent Maney
Here is an image of Vincent Maney, who played SS in the Ty Cobb strike game on May 18, 1912.
Image is sourced from a 2007 article in Maney's Baseball Hall of Fame Player File. It is from a newspaper from that time, but I have yet to locate it. He is on the left and manager Hughie Jennings is on the right. ![]() |

The Expos hired Lou Brock as a spring training baserunning coach in 1993. Not sure how long he did that. Lou Brock Jr. had had a tryout with Montreal in 1982, so it would certainly seem there was a relationship between Brock and the Expos. You see players brought in in such capacities often in the spring. Maury Wills was a baserunning coach for the Mets one year, so, on rare occasion, you'll see a photo of Maury in Mets finery. They hired Jesse Owens for a similar position in 1965. |

A couple of images of original Met Ray Daviault, being offered on eBay by citi-autograph. The portrait is a current offering, the full body pose is a past offering.

1963 Billy Cowan
There have been TV pics of him as a Met before, but to my eye both of these are better than what we've seen.

Hank Webb pitched 5 games with the Dodgers to wrap up his mostly Mets career. This is the best I've seen of him in color Dodger blue.

Danny Walton 1968
There were more color images of him with the Pilots than the Twins, for whom he exploded out of the gate with 2 homers and 5 RBI in his first three games in 1973. Not any more.

Colin Ward 1985
I was in the baseball-covering business on the west coast when this guy made six September starts for the 1985 Giants, half of them against the Dodgers, and I have no earthly remembrance of having ever heard of him before.
Worse yet, I was at the Angels' camp for two weeks in '86 and have no memory of Whitehouse! Last edited by Merkle923; 05-13-2016 at 07:46 PM. |
