August 26th 1896 Update

In the American League, the Washington Senators surged forward of the pack to claim the top spot. A slim lead over Boston, Columbus, and Louisville is all that separated the top
teams by 3 games. Over in the National League, defending champs Philadelphia hold a four game lead over Cincinnati and Brooklyn is still in the game.

Batting Stats
Joe Kelley of the Colts is the lone .400 hitter. And just who is Chris Genegal?

Pitching Stats
Rookie Bill Hoffer leads all pitchers with his 24 wins

September 23rd 1896 Update

With around 18 games to go, it is anyone's ball game. Washington has a very slim lead over Boston. While Philadelphia is enjoying slim leads over Cincinnati and Brooklyn

Batting Stats
Joe Kelley has company atop the leader board, Robert Stafford. But who is he? George Davis has an outside chance of hitting .400.

Pitching Stats
Senators' Cy Young takes over the top spot with his 29 wins. Cy also won his 200th game. James Burke of the Giants won his 350th.

Note
I screwed up the schedule for the American League, totals will be off by 6 to 9 games worth of data.

June 17th 1897 Update
The team to beat looks to be once again, the Columbus Solons. They are streaking out to a comfortable 6.5 game lead over the Senators.

Batting Stats
Seven .400 hitters so far this season

August 5th 1897 Update

At one time the Washington Senators had caught up to Columbus and then proceeded to lose 4 straight. Over in the National League, the Cincinnati Reds showed up in June to
a 16-5 record then goes 16-17 since. Philadelphia sits a game and a half out. We are around the half way point in the season.

Batting Stats
The Class of .400 keeps shrinking, now down to 4 members

September 16th 1897 Update

The Senators once again caught up to Columbus, and then drifted back. We are only 1.5 games out of first in third place. In the National League,
the Phillies came storming back with an 11-0 run and are very hot right now, 12-1 so far this month.

Batting Stats
One more dropped out from the Class of .400.

We are coming up to end of the season. Washington just reeled off a nine game winning streak to take the lead in the American League with 13 games to go.
Over in the National League, the Phillies are trying to hold off a surging Reds team. Who will prevail?

Predicted Standings

The season looks to be an exciting one. Looks to see if we have a pitcher or two get win #300 over in the National League.
Senators' Delahanty is looking for his third .400 season in a row.

April 29th 1898 Update

Almost a month into the season already sparks are flying. Giants have bounced back to be in contention this season. James Burke (5-1, 2.88) and Adonis Terry (5-1, 2.78) are leaders.
St Louis Cardinals were dead last, and have been revived with Charlie Ferguson (4-2, 2.10) and Pete Meegen (5-2, 3.05). Over in the American League, it is a very tight race so far.
Boston jumped out in front, then promptly fizzled. The Senators are lacking some offense. Mike Tiernan is off to an awful start, batting just .211. George Van Haltren is near the top with his .394 BA.

May 21st 1898 Update

The teams are starting to break away. Columbus has gotten their staff together, rookie Wiley Piatt (8-6, 3.84) pitched back to back shout outs. Cy Seymour is 10-4 for the Solons.
After a slow start Senators' Ed Delahanty is hitting .451 in May so far. Over in the National League, the New York Giants look to fade away. NY, 5-14 in May thus far, are 5th in
Batting with a .266 avg. The Cardinals are fading fast too, Al Atkinson is just 1-8.

The quest is on again this season to see who can hit .400

June 21st 1898 Update

The season is half over. Both leagues have tight races going on. In the National League, the Bridegrooms are making a move, while Boston has moved up to the top spot.
Over in the American League, Columbus and Cleveland are fighting it out. Louisville has dropped off the Earth so to speak, at one time the Colonels went 1-10.

Standings

Batting Stats
The .400 Club is sitting at 2 members, another 2 are waiting to get in.

Pitching Stats
Senators' Cy Young (250th win) and John Clarkson (300th win) hit milestones
