I didn't think it could get worse than a 4-23 April, but it did... 2-24 in June.
I'm embarrassed, apologies to the league for the Scums poor performance. They went 8-19 in May. 16-67 so far. At least July went okay, 12-11. Last edited by Will_L; 01-01-2021 at 09:31 PM. |

I had been away from the game for several years, and I came back due to hearing how awesome Perfect Team was, and that they'd likely fixed one of my issues as a longtime Historical Random Debut player. I'm very glad I came back!
I am currently 67-18 in Stone in my second week of League play. I spent (in several chunks) $91.09 to catch up, and I'm glad I did. I went 149-13 and won the Rookie League World Series, and at 67-18 I look to have a Playoff spot in Stone as sewn up as you can after 85 games. I am currently 21.5 games up in my Division, and have the best record in the league. I am 216-31 for an .874 winning percentage, and going to TRY to get up to Perfect before this year's game ends... but I'll be in from Day #1 in OOTP 22, and I'm much looking forward to it!

It's the All-Star break in PL. I'm 7 games behind 4th place in my division and 6 games behind the last wild card spot That means every team in my division is qualifying for the playoffs (if the season ended right now). Is that a bad break, or what? Joe Mauer is the token all-star representative from my team.
My pitching is 14th out of 20 in ERA, but #1 in WAR!? How is that possible? Must be some kind of calculation bug, no? |

This was the first time I've yelled, hooted, and hollered at a video game in many, many years!
I've got a pretty damned good team for this only being my second week of play. I won the NC East at 129-33, but the London Transported Men won the NC West with a record of 139-23, to have the best record in Stone .254! He'd bought and set up his team to where he had top-of-the-line Perfect's across his offense, a massive improvement on their 80-82 record from the Stone season prior. To give you an idea, he had two .400+ hitters (Billy Hamilton at .413, and Ty Cobb at .411), five men with at least 48 HR, and three men with 200+ RBI. His #9 hitter, Roger Bresnahan, had 135 RBI. Their team had a run differential of +1025, whereas my Marshals only had a +711. My team didn't have quite the offense as he did, but I've got a great pitching staff, whereas his best pitchers were Gold, and he had multiple Iron and multiple Bronze pitchers on his staff. I still expected to be easily beaten -- especially when the Transported Men took the first two at home. Then we won the next three, setting up Game 6 at their place, with Greg Maddux headed to the hill for us. We were feeling very good about our chances, and hey, we still had Game 7 if they were to beat Maddux. Feeling good. Then Maddux gave up 7 ER on 9 hits in only 2.1 inning pitched. ![]() We fought and fought and got the "Comeback" achievement, with our lads finally overturning a seven-run deficit into our favor in the 9th inning, with Yogi Berra scoring Ichiro and Carl Yazstremski on a bases-loaded single to left, and Jackie Robinson scoring Mike Schmidt on a single to make it 11-10 with three outs to go! Stephen Strasburg struck out Ty Cobb on a 1-2 fastball to finish off a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth, and send the Motor City Marshals to their second consecutive World Series to start their career! Just amazing when I read that boxscore and learned I'd beaten this team, and in such crazy fashion! Congratulations to the London Transported Men and BarberMD on a great season, and promotion to Iron! Here's hoping my lads can do it against the New York Knights (love that they are using the name from "The Natural!") ![]()

We wound up sweeping the New York Knights, 4-0, to clinch our second straight World Series in two weeks of League play! We'll now do my best in Iron starting next week, but I think we'll be remembering that series against the London Transported Men for a very long time! <3

Last week I made the Diamond playoffs for the first time. I decided to use my resources to build on that momentum. I added several FOTF players: Gwynn, Mays, Brett and Campanella. I also snagged a Pop Lloyd. I was rewarded by being relegated this week. Diamond is cruel. However here is my team.
C Mauer/Camp 1B Anson 2B Jackie SS Pop/Ripken 3B Brett/Larkin LF Gwynn CF Griffey/Mays RF Mays/Clemente DH Aaron SP Price Plank Mad Bum King Felix Kershaw RP Feller Newhauser 99 Maddux Gordon Radbourn Matthews Pud Gavin I know I need a lot of work on my pitching staff. On offense I would like to replace the 3rd basemen with Hornsby and then add Conner to platoon with Anson. Eventually adding Ozzie or Belanger at SS so I can platoon Pop and Jackie at 2B would be great but that is a dream at his point. Even though I am disappointed in the relegation, I hope to snag some points in Gold since my team should be fairly ahead of the Gold curve by now.

dboeyr12007, I know the feeling. I am back up in Diamond this week after relegation the week before. You should run up a pretty strong record in Gold this week as I didn't have too much of an issue last week in mine and had the league best record. I didn't end up in a brutal division this week in Diamond but the overall strength of the conference is fairly strong. I'm an free play team and frankly there isn't too much else you can do to improve your pitching at Diamond unless you are able to snag some of the "topper" tier FOTF SP's out there like Spahn, Johnson and Martinez. If you have enough teams in your league with a mix of these guys along with a couple of the lower level FOTF SPs you will definitely see your offensive lineup production suffer. Having FOTF Gwynn, Hornsby, Mays and Cobb certainly will help, but so far I have only been able to snag FOTF Hornsby to provide a bit better lineup protection. Players like FOTF Kaline, Aaron and Dimaggio produce but they are not nearly as consistent season to season as the aforementioned FOTF players like Hornsby.

I've been pretty casual this season, doing the LIVE missions but otherwise being pack-only.
Just wondering if pitchers without stamina are struggling big in the bullpen this year? My SE Joe Nathan gets absolutely shelled at Gold Level. Whereas my converted SPs with superficially worse STU/MOV/CON but higher stamina seem to perform better. Also, CON seems to be the go-to rating for SPs this season, and not MOV? STU seems a bit more important than in PT20 as well. Last edited by Argonaut; 01-04-2021 at 02:40 PM. |

Control has seemed to be confirmed as the category that is most predictive of a pitcher's success. Top tier line ups have insane Avoid K and Eye ratings, so you need control to limit walks.

The Seawolves lefty cheese days may end next week as we are now struggling to win 90 games at the Diamond level. Willing to see how this team can perform at a neutral park with no fluff?

Well, this was an interesting week.
With the diamond and historical packs sale and the resulting influx of cheap historical diamonds in the auction house, the Gold leagues all became more challenging this week, so all three of my teams liquidated their reserve roster and inactive inventory and used the PP to add several players to their rosters. The Cluckers added FOTF DiMaggio, FOTF Ripken, and FOTF Plank. The additions happened late in the season and were not enough to bring them to the playoffs, as they finished a few games out of the wildcard. They're now closing in on FOTF Price (and the AL East reward of FOTF Ted Williams), which should keep them ahead of the curve in Gold next season. The Irregulars added FOTF Kaline, FOTF Larkin, FOTF Plank, and FOTF Thomas, but again, they completed this towards the end of the season. They were almost relegated to Silver! The team's rotation is still a bit weak, but the offense is solid and should hold up well in Gold next season. Next up is adding FOTF Feller. Los Perros have been the strongest of the three teams so far, having reached Diamond more often than the others, though usually getting relegated after a season or two. They added FOTF Aaron, FOTF Alomar, FOTF Pudge, FOTF Fernandez (and the NL East reward of FOTF Spahn), and SE Gooden. The team lost its division in a game 163 matchup but steamrolled the competition in the playoffs for its second Gold championship. We'll see how they do in Diamond next year. They're hoping to add SE Jackie Robinson by the All Star Break.

I had an interesting week with 6 PL veterans in my conference, one of them would be left out. I started out well building a 5 game lead by late May, but by late August I was 6 games behind. I crawled back to 1 game behind with 11 to play, but lost the next 4 and was 3 games back. That set up a dramatic 3 game series with the leader (Tombstone Huckleberries) which began the 7 game winning streak to end the season in 1st by 1 game! Hopefully, we can win 3 in a row again should Tombstone win their WC game. However, that was nothing compared to the Asheville Aces (in my division) who won their last 11 games in a row to edge the Raleigh Rallies (also in my division) for 2nd wild card by 1 game. Much tougher division this week than last week, which I won by 25 games.

I erred in the above post because I faced the New Jersey Family in the DS. That team defeated me in the finals of 2048 4 games to none. So, sweet revenge for me as I slithered past them 3 games to 2 after falling behind 2 games to 1. Therefore, the showdown with Tombstone happened in the LCS and needless to say 3 in a row wouldn't get the job done, but 4 in a row certainly did! Last week, I fell in 7 to a weaker team in the finals, but this week I'm the underdog against the Everett Aqua Sox. In their conference, they were #1 in pitching and hitting whereas I was only #1 in hitting (and #6 in pitching).

For the 2nd week in a row the underdog won my DL championship series! The Magpies dump on the Aqua Sox 4 games to 1. After dropping the opener in Everett, the Magpies never looked back. The Aqua Sox lost games 3 and 4 at The Stakeout by the identical score of 10-0 with Seaver and Walter Johnson going the distance. Things were wrapped up in game 5 with a walk off single by Tony Gwynn. Pop Lloyd, Roger Connor, and Cap Anson were MVP's in the various series. The convincing win encouraged GM Bailey to make a move to "keep up with the Joneses" as best a FTP can do by acquiring SE Mariano Rivera in the AH.

Looking forward to a season long battle with the Magpies. 4 each at the moment. Good luck, Bailey!
Also, Dboeyr, good to see your Mays has been crushing it ![]()

Oh, wow! I didn't even notice that was you! We got lucky and drew the right conference because the other one is already +50 against us. .500 may be enough to qualify for the playoffs in our conference!

Well I think the time has come to just start selling off my FOTF cards and a few others that are not part of collection missions and give myself another hobby in slowly completing missions like I did with OOTP 20. Not much else I can do to improve my F2P team at this point. I'm hanging around relegation at Diamond level again after several weeks of below .500 play. I'll wait until Sunday before I start selling off players since I don't want to appear like I am tanking. Kind of looking forward to just completing missions now that there are a more historical cards back on the market as a result of the Historical & Diamond Packs being permanently on the market. Not sure how far I will eventually fall back to. I have several cards that I have locked from missions that should keep me in Gold and prevent me from dropping down to Silver, not to mention I will have a hard time parting from FOTF Hornsby I got off the auction block a month ago, so I think I will at least keep him around for a while longer.
