Player Pitching Stats - 1901 Season
Player pitching stats for the 1901 season, with the first image sorted by IP and second image sorted by WPA. While it is unlikely that Noodles Hahn (10.8 WAR and 5.0 WPA) will be able to surpass Rube Waddell in the race for the Platinum Pitcher award, Hahn had a great season and is clearly a Top-3 pitcher in the MLB. Unsure if Cy Young will be able to match his 1901 season performance next year, but the trade benefit was worth it. Lastly, will likely try to move Fred Klobedanz to get a little more out of the 4th spot.

Trade Lookback - Cy Young
A look back to see how the Cy Young trade panned out:
Boston picked up Cy Young from the Pirates in exchange for Dick Padden, Danny Friend, Ike Fisher, a 4th round, 7th round, and 12th round draft pick in 1902. Young was a reliable 3rd starter (border line 2nd) throughout the year, putting up 6.1 WAR on his way to a 21 win season. Padden had 96 PA with a -0.1 WAR, Friend had a respectable 9-5 season in 25 games (15 starts) and 0.8 WAR, and Fisher had just 2 PA. Winner: Boston

While his team may have struggled most of the year, the Philadelphia Athletics reliever seemingly always came through in the clutch. For his efforts, Bill Reidy was named the American League Fireman of the Year Award winner.

National League Fireman of the Year Award
In era where relief pitchers are frequently perceived as having little value, Chicago Orphans stopper Billy Milligan showed just how important it is to have a lock-down arm. Milligan was the overwhelming selection for the National League Fireman of the Year Award.

National League Rookie of the Year
While there were several players who were in the running for the National League Rookie of the Year award, none were close to Cincinnati Reds all-star Nap Lajoie.

National League Platinum Pitcher
While his Brooklyn Superbas struggled this season, Bob Wicker did all he could to give his team a fighting chance. In earning the National League Platinum Pitcher honors, Wicker led the league in ERA (2.00), strikeouts (237), and WAR (8.0).

American League - Most Valuable Player
A clean sweep for Rube Waddell, as he was named today as the American League Most Valuable Player. This was a very special season for Waddell and I look forward to see how his career plays out.

1902 Draft Class
The 1902 draft class list is out and there are some promising players who will undoubtedly make an impact in the big-leagues next year. As of right now, the Boston Americans sit outside of the top-10; owning the #13 pick in the draft. Unsure if I will try and move up to get a potential franchise player.

American League - Manager of the Year
Detroit Tigers skipper Matt Hill was named the American League Manager of the Year for the 1901 season. In leading his team to a 89-51 record the culminated in a World Series victory, there was little doubt that Hill would take home these honors.

National League - Manager of the Year
While his team came up short in the World Series, Boston Beaneaters manager Dennis Lambert still had a season to be proud of. Finishing with a 85-55 record and a trip to the World Series earned the skipper National League Manager of the Year honors.
