Anatomy Volume 1, 1985: Postseason

Of course, before we get to the playoffs there's still the matter of the NL West to be decided via a one-game tiebreak between the Dodgers and Astros.

Which leaves the final standings for 1985 thusly:

CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

Both Oakland and Houston - the latter on the road - come back from 3-2 down to win in seven.

WORLD SERIES

Amazing that a series so notable for its dire pitching ends up being won with a 3-hit shutout by Chris Codiroli as once again the A's survive two elimination games to win it all.

Thus endeth the 1985 MLB season in this timeline. But Volume 1 of this series isn't quite done with yet - I'll be back in a bit with a quick analytical comparison between it and the historical IRL, along with a surprise bonus feature!

Anatomy Volume 1, 1985: A Retrospective

So the sim only got the Cards right of the four as far as division winners goes, but it was pretty close all the same.

Here are the IRL historical final standings for 1985:

It did better with regard to individual stats, but almost completely swung and missed with the awards:

Our host for this journey down memory lane was rewarded for his efforts with an improved performance in the sim vs IRL:

And I thought it would be remiss of me not to quickly sim out the '86 season to see if this timeline is any kinder to Red Sox Nation. It is, in a way, sparing them all that Game 6 agony as the Blue Jays dominate the AL East and the Mets follow the historical by winning it all, sweeping the Royals in the WS.

Well, I'll be back at some point with Volume 2 of this - fairly sure what season that will cover but no reveal just yet.

Thanks for following along, hope you enjoyed it!
