23rd Street Grounds, also known as State Street Grounds and 23rd Street Park, and sometimes spelled out as Twenty-third Street Grounds, was located in Chicago from 1872 until 1877 and was the home to the Chicago White Stockings (now the Chicago Cubs) from 1874 to 1877.

Toledo Athletic Park and Sparenza Park

These are both the Athletic Park and Sparenza Park that were located in Toledo home to the Bluestockings (1884) and the Maumees (1890) of the American Association.

The first two are of Athletic Park and the second one is Sparenza Park.

Monroe Park

Monroe Park located in Richmond, Virginia was built in 1851 and was originally used as the State Agricultural Fair Grounds.

In 1866 it began to host Baseball games and by 1875 it was part home to the Washington Olympics of the National Association.

By around 1897 it was no longer used for Baseball anymore although the park still exists today.

It lasted until 1875.

I had just about given up hope on identifying anything useful for Richmond, so this is great to see. As Khephren notes, several of the parks you posted are available in this and other threads, but I do hope to post at least a few more here soon--Tinker Park is actually pretty close to ready, for one, and I suspect I'll try and tackle Worcester's Agricultural Fair Grounds next...

Thanks asrivkin.

I do have a photo of Worcester Agricultural Fair Grounds home to the Worcester Rubylegs of the National League from 1880-1882.

Also I previously posted Tinker Park home to the Indianapolis Blues of the American Association in 1884 and the Indianapolis Hoosiers of the National League from 1887-1889.

Madison Avenue Grounds

Madison Avenue Grounds aka Monumental Park was built by the Waverly Club as the first enclosed ballpark in baseball located in Baltimore, with spectator seating and player clubhouses, and was the site of the first intercity game played in Baltimore (Brooklyn Excelsiors 51, Baltimore Excelsiors 6) on September 22, 1860; it was the site of a 47-7 defeat of the local Marylands by the undefeated Cincinnati Red Stockings in 1869, and it was used by the Washington Olympics of the National Association for a professional game in 1871.

The ballpark was also part home to the Maryland club of the National Association, who had a brief fling as a professional club in 1873.

It closed by 1884.

National Grounds

The National Grounds built in 1860 was a ballpark located in Washington D.C from 1865 to 1869 home of the Washington Nationals/Olympics of the Independent League from 1865-1868 and the National Association of Baseball Players in 1869.It also served as the home of the home field of the Washington Nationals of the National Association for 1872.

It would close down by the mid-1870's.

Allen Pasture

Allen Pasture was the name of a ballpark located in Richmond, Virginia from 1884 around 1890 home to the Richmond Virginias of the American Association in 1884.

It was bounded by North Allen Avenue and Monument Avenue (where the Lee Monument once stood).

Tinker Park, Indianapolis

Hi all!

First off, I'd like to wish a Veterans Day (or Armistice Day for non-US folks) that is happy, peaceful, meaningful, or restful, or whatever you're hoping for.

After a partly-unintended break, I'm happy to post another 19th century park: Indianapolis's Tinker Park. I'm trying to be careful here, since I relatively recently posted Orlando's Tinker Field, which was a Spring Training field for most of the 20th century, in the Jazz Age thread.

This Tinker Park, also known as Athletic Park and Seventh Street Park, was the weekday home to a few different MLB-level Indianapolis teams: first the 1884 American Association team, followed by the 1887-1889 NL Hoosiers. The 1885 Western League team also played here. Once source claims that the pre-1888 and 1888-1889 parks are different, and Wikipedia talks about a realignment, but most sources (including Wikipedia) say there was just one park for the whole period. The Sanborn Map I'm using (and show below) is from 1887 and I made the park in that pre-1888 alignment for what that's worth.

Google Drive link to Indianapolis Tinker Park

Not too much else to say--I extended the foul line distances beyond the historical ones to make sure the outfielders would be on the field rather than hanging out beyond the fence. Other than the Sanborn map, I'm not aware of any depictions other than what Jamesdyl17 posted the other day. It doesn't quite match what the Sanborn map has (for instance, the map explicitly notes open stands in areas where the artist's depiction shows covered ones), so perhaps the map is from an earlier time? This model also is missing the turrets in that sketch. In any case, since I'd gotten this one mostly done before seeing that sketch I'm going to stick with this. Maybe there will be a version 2 sometime.

With this park, we now have a complete set of NL parks (mostly historical, with only 1-2 kludges) back to 1887 (plus 1883). There are two AA seasons with a complete set of ballparks (1882 and 1885). As noted, I'm planning to tackle Worcester next, then probably the Columbus 1889-1891 park. After that there are a few 1-2 season parks in unrepresented cities that I think I have enough information to at least try, but I may jump to St. George's Grounds since that would complete a couple more AA seasons...

Thanks asrivkin.

You are correct as there were three different ballparks in Indianapolis at that time with Tinker Park (Athletic Park) being the main one.

There was also Bruce Grounds which stood on Bruce (now 23rd) Street and College Avenue being home to the Indianapolis Blues in 1884 and only Sunday games for the Indianapolis Hoosiers from 1887-1889.

Also there was a park called Indianapolis Park (Which I confused with Tinker Park in my previous posts) that existed from 1888 to 1889 located on a block bounded by New York Street (N), Arsenal Avenue (E), East Ohio Street (S), and Hanna Street (W) (now Oriental Street) serving as Sunday home games for the Indianapolis Hoosiers of the National League from 1888-1889.

So these are both Bruce Grounds and Indianapolis Park.

Again

Thanks for your post.
