Frank Schneiberg 1910
On June 8, 1910, Schneiberg made his sole appearance in a major league game, pitching in relief of Nap Rucker for the home team in Brooklyn in what became a 13-2 loss to Cincinnati. Schneiberg allowed five hits and walked four in just one inning, and was charged with eight runs (seven earned) to give him a career ERA of 63.00. |

Lou Grasmick
Lou Grasmick, who pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2 games in 1948, died on May 26 at the age of 91.
I had posted a photo of him from his playing days on the following webpage: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...pack-1116.html He had given me that photo. Lou Grasmick was much more than a ballplayer. He started his own lumber company and grew it into one of the largest on the East Coast. He helped develop part of the Baltimore waterfront, raised money to open the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of African American History & Culture, and became a major supporter of stem cell research for cardiac conditions (He gave $2 million to Johns Hopkins Medical Center). For decades, he worked with Baltimore mayors and Maryland governors in teaming up on public projects to make improvements in the Baltimore area. He also maintained a lifelong interest in sports, and was the person responsible for arranging the professional debut of boxer Sugar Ray Leonard in Baltimore. The attached photo shows Lou at a formal occasion. |

Rick Adams 1905
In his only major league season, Reuben "Rick" Adams (misidentified as "Vic" Adams in the newspaper photo below) pitched in eleven games, including six starts, for the Washington Nationals between July and September of 1905. His record was 2-5 and included one shutout. He continued pitching in the minor leagues through 1914. |

I was quite sorry to learn of Lou Grasmick's death this morning. As I mentioned a couple of years ago on a couple of other baseball websites, Lou Grasmick's photo or autograph was very hard to get. Finally in 2000 or 2001, a collector friend of mine who lived just outside Baltimore finally got him to autograph two photos from his Phillies days - one for him and and one for myself - but only after several attempts to get Lou to furnish playing days photos (which were quite rare among collectors at the time). Grasmick's brief time in the major leagues at age 23 must have seemed very distant, almost like it had happened to someone else and journalists rarely referred to him as a former big leaguer, since he had accomplished so much as a businessman, political activist/advisor and philanthropist in the more recent past. . After his playing days ended, he became immensely successful as a business executive, political adviser, and a charitable millionaire who gave away millions in his lifetime to charities and projects that he deemed worthwhile. He pitched only 5 innings in 2 games for the 1948 Phillies in his week in the major leagues, and he also hit 1.000, going 1 for 1. RIP, Lou. Last edited by dennis_keith; 05-29-2016 at 06:35 PM. |

Brian Harper Detroit Tigers 1986
Brian Harper had an odd career. Harper could hit but it took a long time for a major league organization to give him a real shot at everyday play, and when the Twins turned to him in the late 1980s he gave them some decent years as their starting catcher. Before that, Harper rode the pines for seven years as a reserve outfielder-catcher with California (1981), Pittsburgh (1982-1984), St. Louis (1985), Detroit (1986), and Oakland (1987). I have seen only one previous photo of him with the Tigers, which I suspect may be a photoshop job. Here he is in a very good snap from dr. jteeee. Now, if only someone could find him with the A's...

Jim Holmes 1906
After three pitching appearances for the Philadelphia Athletics in September 1906, Holmes was back in the minor leagues (with Augusta) until 1908, when Brooklyn used him in thirteen games, including one start. (This image is from spring training, 1908, with the Superbas; it is unclear what team the cap is from that he is wearing.) He finished his major league career that season with a record of 1-4, and then pitched in the minor leagues through 1913. Last edited by RUKen; 05-30-2016 at 08:12 AM. |

Bill Hayes Chicago Cubs 1980-81
Bill Hayes is best known today as a first base coach for the Giants. As a player, he was a cup-of-coffee catcher for the Cubs (.222 in five games in 1980-81). The images I have seen of Hayes all appear to be snaps from his time with the Iowa Cubs in the early 80s when they wore hand-me-down Chicago uniforms. However, a genuine major league shot with Wrigley Field in the background is now available from signatures4u on ebay. Here it is.

Seattle Pilots - Higher Resolution Photos
If you do a search on ebay using "Seattle Pilots Photos" you will find some familiar photos but in higher resolution quality. There are also some I have never seen before. This includes some images of coaches for those of you who collect those as well. Here are a couple that I found. Tommy Harper is much clearer (not as dark) as I have seen before.
Again, most you have already seen but these may be much better quality than you have now. |

Mark Ryal 1982
One time Royals draftee, later perpetual Angels prospect of the mid-80s. Many thought he might be a star - none approached how much of a star he thought he was going to be.
