KA275-278 Vic Rodriguez
I'll take career minor league infielder Vic Rodriguez for $400 Merkle.
The card photo seems to match the Vault's images of the player that is featured with the Padres, Cardinals, and O's - which also matches his minor league stops. Appears to have had a big league cup of coffee with the O's in '84, and Twins in '89... Last edited by hobbs11; 05-31-2016 at 08:21 PM. |

Frank Wills
I think that Topps Vault KA 264 is Frank Wills. The eyebrows, mustache, ears, and dimple in chin all line up. His surname also fits well into the alphabetical scheme surrounding the number.
The Topps Vault image was reversed. I've "un-reversed" it for purposes of photo comparisons. Last edited by Cusick; 05-31-2016 at 08:43 PM. |

Bill Malarkey 1908
The professional career of pitcher Bill Malarkey began in 1907 with the Sharon Giants of the Ohio-Pennsylvania League. He began the 1908 season with the New York Giants of the National League and made fifteen appearances, all in relief, at various times during the season. He also pitched for Buffalo of the Eastern League that same season. Malarkey never again played in the major leagues, and pitched in the minors through 1915. In the picture below, an excerpt of a group photo of the Giants' pitchers published in the New York Daily Tribune on March 22, 1908, Malarkey is wearing a uniform that looks like a St. Louis Browns uniform from 1902, 1904, or 1905. He had no prior experience with the Browns; Sporting Life does not indicate that he was ever on the roster of that team. The most likely explanations are that either Malarkey had previously played semi-professionally with a team in St. Louis that had uniforms that resembled the Browns', or that he had shown up at spring training and forgotten to bring an old uniform and was lent one by a teammate. (Players at that time did not receive new uniforms until the season opener.) |

Request for a specific Santo
Hey all, after cross referencing all the TV folders for "Ron Santo", I tried to match the two dozen plus hits with this specific image. Nothing.
Might anyone happen to have this pic that I date probably to 1973 sans the "American Pie" logo? Thanks in advance! |

For something published so recently, it was probably not refiled in the Santo folder and thus probably hasn't been pulled out for sale.

Thanks! I've seen autocorrect do a lot of stupid things, but why change "Rochford" to "Richford?" I mean, there appear to be two American towns called "Richford;" otherwise there's nothing that makes that look more like an autocorrect result rather than something that needs to be autocorrected.

George Yantz 1912
George Yantz offered at RMY Auctions... I guess this is correct, although the back of the photo raises questions....

George Yantz
I believe the above Yantz photo depicts him in a 1914 Cleveland Bearcats (American Association) uniform. That would be consistent with the markings on the back of the photo, and the insignia on the cap. I found a newspaper article which indicated that a catcher Yantz was with the Bearcats at the beginning of the 1914 season, and then in May he went to Portland of the Pacific Coast League. The Portland part would be consistent with George Yantz' record at Baseball-reference.com. Perhaps he was with Cleveland for too few games to merit a citation.
The article also indicated that the catcher Yantz was with the Toledo club of the American Association in 1913, which was transformed into the Cleveland club the following year. Baseball-reference.com has George Yantz with New Orleans in 1913, but for only 44 games, so he certainly could have joined Toledo later in the season. George Yantz Minor Leagues Statistics & History | Baseball-Reference.com P.S. An article in a Louisville paper makes clear that the 1914 player with Cleveland was George Yantz and that he hailed from Louisville. This Louisville article cited George Yantz' appearance for Cleveland against Louisville in a game on April 19. Last edited by Cusick; 06-01-2016 at 09:59 PM. |

George Yantz with the 1914 Cleveland Bearcats and with the 1914 Portland Beavers at the end of May. Yantz is 2nd from the left.

Roy Evans 1897
Evans compiled a won-lost record of 29-43 pitching for six major league teams in five seasons, 1897-99 and 1902-03. He is depicted here in a Brooklyn uniform in April, 1903. Evans developed a reputation for accepting multiple signing bonuses from different teams at the same time and for failing to pay back loans from neighbors in the many towns he lived in during his career. does anyone have a photo of John Preston, Herman Robinson these were in 1969 Spring Training as NRI's for the San Diego Padres? does anyone have photo's of Jerry Sweeps, Mike Port, Keith Shetler, Jeff Pentland . I think these players were also NRI's in Padres camp in 1969.

Chauncey Fisher 1893
Fisher pitched for Cleveland in 1893 and 1894, and also for Cincinnati in 1894. After a year in the minor leagues, he was back with the Reds in 1896, and then with Brooklyn in 1897. He pitched in the Western League in 1898, was out of organized baseball in 1899, and then pitched for the Chicago White Stockings of the (still minor) American League in 1900. In 1901, Fisher started one game for the New York Giants (he lasted only four innings), was released on June 27th, and then was signed on or around July 1st by the St. Louis Cardinals. He is pictured here in his St. Louis uniform, the last that he would wear as a major league player. He pitched in relief on July 6th, 1901, and gave up seven hits and walked one in three innings, allowing five runs to score. Fisher was released about a week later. |

Jim Rittwage 1970
Seldom seen Cleveland pitcher with a weird roster history. Appeared on a rookie card (and an opening day roster) in 1965. Didn't pitch in an MLB game until 1970. This image is from after his career ended, spring training 1971.

Eduardo Rodriguez 1973
Surprisingly little of this durable reliever of the Brewers and Royals in the '70s and up pops this beautiful image by Doug McWilliams looking to date to 1974 or 1973.
