The St. Louis Cardinals made one trade on deadline day acquiring first baseman Gino Groover from Miami in exchange for outfielder Jake Meyers and infielder Eli Lopez.
The 29-year-old Groover was previously with the Cardinals beginning with the 2027 season when he was acquired in a mid-season trade with Toronto.
In two-plus seasons with St. Louis, he played in 328 games/317 starts, during which he his .280 with 45 home runs and 159 RBIs.
Groover was traded to the Marlins on Dec. 13, 2029 in exchange for reliever Brett Wichrowski, as St. Louis looked to add a hard-throwing right-hander to its bullpen.
For his major-league career, which began when he broke in with Arizona in 2025, Groover has played in 625 games/505 starts and hit .262 with 69 home runs and 246 RBIs.
Meyers, 35, has spent the last two seasons with St. Louis.
Signed to a one-year contract prior to the 2030 season, he performed well as a fourth outfielder hitting .276 with nine home runs and 40 RBIs in 87 games/77 starts.
Signed to a $2 million extension, including an option for 2032, this year has been different as in 43 games/29 starts, Meyers has hit just .184 with two home runs and 11 RBIs.
Worse off, he has complained about his lack of playing time.
The Cardinals signed Lopez, 27, in the off-season to be a utility infielder.
He has played in 28 games/21 starts and hit just .208 with no home runs and eight RBIs.
