I always feels like I should have spent more time with Nick. He's a good character, but he's just middle tier for me because there were others I liked better as companions.

Also has there been some sort of Fallout announcement recently? I've noticed an uptick around the internet in interest in Fallout again, not that I'm complaining, but I can't figure out why.

I like Nick because he has the most depth of any of the other characters. He also had two personal side quests whereas some companions have none.

As far as Fallout news, I could only find information about updates to Fallout 76.

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

29 June 2303

Feature Story: Killers at the Starlight Drive-In

The Starlight Lady Killers have been making waves in the midway point of the CBO season, currently tied for first place in the Institute League with the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud. Led by their star players, Zeldolph Violet, Nick Maris, David Seaweed, and Hubris McBride, the Lady Killers are proving to be a force to be reckoned with on the field.

At first base, Zeldolph Violet has been crushing it this season with a batting average of .342, 22 home runs, and 64 runs batted in. His powerful swing and precise eye at the plate make him a formidable opponent for any pitcher. Considered in the thick of the Nuka-Hitter Award, Violet leads the North Charles Association in home runs, RBI, SLG (.698), OPS (1.141), total bases (155), ISO (.356), OPS+ (205), and wOBA (.485).

In right field, David Seaweed has also been a key player for the Lady Killers with 18 home runs (tied for 4th in NCA) and 46 RBI (4th). His consistent hitting and quick reflexes in the outfield have helped the team secure important victories.

At third base, Hubris McBride has been a steady presence in the lineup with a .286 batting average, 14 home runs, and 37 RBI. His strong defensive skills and aggressive baserunning have also been instrumental in the Lady Killers' success.

Nick Maris, the team's leadoff hitter and shortstop, has been a consistent contributor with a .282 batting average, 6 home runs, and 28 runs batted in. His speed on the basepaths and solid defense have helped the Lady Killers put pressure on opposing teams.

On the mound, the Lady Killers have relied heavily on their second starter, Alex Alexson. With a record of 10-1 and an ERA of 3.41, Alexson has been a dominant force on the mound, keeping opposing batters on their toes. His 10 wins are tied for the top in the NCA, while he also leads the NCA in Opponents BA (.211) and Win% (.909).

Offensively, the Lady Killers have been a force to be reckoned with, ranking first in OPS and home runs and second in runs scored. However, they have struggled somewhat defensively, ranking seventh in runs against. Despite this, the Lady Killers' starters have held their own with a seventh-ranked ERA, while their bullpen ranks sixth in ERA.

As the Lady Killers continue their push toward the playoffs, fans can expect to see more thrilling performances from this talented team. With their star players leading the way and a strong lineup and pitching rotation backing them up, the Lady Killers are poised to make a deep run in the postseason.

Analysis

Roxbury remains the #1 team in the CBO with a .774 win percentage. The Sox were slightly below their winning percentage the last ten games, going 7-3. That record includes a split at University Point (#6), winning two of three at Egret (#23), a split at Atom (#3), and a sweep at home versus FHE (#10).

County Crossing is the #2 team and the leaders atop the NCA. Like the Rad Sox, the Bloodbugs went 7-3 in their last 10. They started out with a sweep at Lexington (#18), a two-game series win at The Slog (#22), a split versus the featured Lady Killers (#7), and another series win versus the Ghouls.

The Atom Cats are #3 and in a first-place tie atop the Minutemen League with the Deathclaws. The Cats got there with an 8-2 record over their last 10. That includes a sweep at Oberland (#17), winning two of three at Warwick (#24), a split with the Sox, and a sweep of the Mirelurks.

The #4 team is the Diamond City Swatters after an 8-2 record in their last 10, including the completion of an 8-game winning streak. The Swatters swept the Lurks, swept Vault 81 (#13), swept Warwick again, and then lost the series versus the Vault Dwellers.

Among the hottest teams in the CBO, the Goodneighbor Hancocks are #5 this week. Goodneighbor went 8-2 in their last 10 with a split with the Yao Guai, a series sweep of the Claws, a sweep at Vault 81, and a 2-1 weekend at Quincy (#21).

Harwich Fishheads Win Cape Cod Series: With a 6-2 win over the Provincetown Land Pirates at Fishheads Ballpark today, the Harwich Fishheads wrapped up their 1st title in team history.

The Fishheads left little doubt who was the better team. Celebrating a banner year, "team" was the word of the day in the victorious clubhouse after the game.

"Hitting, pitching, fielding; those are all things you need to win, but most importantly you need a team, a team that works together toward the same collective goal," said Harwich manager Primetime DesMarais. "Our players felt that way all year, and they played that way. When one guy had an off day, 24 others stepped up their game and filled the void."

A jovial mood filled the air as Harwich celebrated into the night. The city's mayor said parade plans were underway and a "huge celebration" would be in order.

"I hope they have a big celebration," Provincetown manager Killer Earp said. "They deserved to win this series and they deserve to celebrate it."

Pawtucket Paw Sox Capture Rhode Island Series: It was a hard-fought battle for both teams to make it this far. But as the saying goes, "to the victors go the spoils." For the victorious Pawtucket Paw Sox, that meant the Providence Junior Pro League Rhode Island Series trophy.

The Paw Sox took a 10-3 victory over the Hope Firestarters at Hope Field, winning their 2nd championship after taking the series 2-1.

"We've got grit," said Paw Sox third baseman Zero Nought, who was named MVP of the series. "We know how to win when we have to."

The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the Providence League and a 23-17 record.

Hubris McBride is a great name and I actually have a former tabletop buddy that would probably start going by that at D&D sessions if he ever heard it (close to his real name).

Hubris is overconfident in himself!

July 2303 - Season Pass Association

Nuka News Update

Reporting on the NWL, NWLB, and APYL Leagues

by Evan Guy

1 July 2303

One Month Later: Quartz, Cherry Still Rule

With 23 games left on the season, the Quartz Star Force and Cherry Ghoulrillas still appear to be the hands-on favorites to enter the playoffs in the Nuka World League. The only other team that appears to still be in the race is the Quantum Nukalurks, trailing first-place Quartz by 4.5 games.

The Star Force have taken over first thanks to going 7-3 in their last 10 to cap off a 17-9 June. While their offense has not been spectacular (6th in runs scored with 283), they have one of the better pitching staffs in the league. The Star Force are 2nd in runs allowed (240) with the 2nd-best Starters ERA (3.38) and 3rd-best Bullpen ERA (4.29). Ace Chris Yao (8-3, 2.88) leads the way, with an impressive season from both Bubble Andrews (8-5, 3.07) and Travis Sisler (8-2, 3.29). Closer Craig Widmar (15 SV, 2.84) leads a steady bullpen. On offense, RF Daniel Rousseaux (.354/5/27) and 1B Thinker Brown (.341/12/31) are in the MVP watch.

Cherry seems as though they should be more dominant, but went 5-5 in their last 10 and 14-12 in June to fall a game behind. The Ghoulrillas are 2nd in runs scored (327) and 1st in runs allowed (227). Offensively, only one player matters in what appears to be a runaway MVP race: 1B Carlos Aguilar (.333/28/65). 3B Andy Knickson (.307/6/34) has contributed. For pitching, three pitchers have a sub-4.00 ERA: SP Mike Coombaya (8-5, 2.61), SP Travis Armstrong (8-3, 3.39), and SP Joe Penaltybox (8-3, 2.21). The bullpen is 4th in ERA (4.95) with closer Art Armstrong (13 SV, 5.32) struggling as of late.

Standings

Vim! View

Veracious, Vivacious, Vainglorious Vision of the Vim! Leagues

by Vikky Vail

Fog Division Thrilling with 16 to Play

The Fog Division's Rayburn Point Patcheyes and the Brooke's Head Behemoths enter the last three weeks of the season tied for first place, while the Harbor Division's Dalton Farm Fog Crawlers have a comfortable six-game lead.

The Patcheyes and Behemoths have gone in opposite directions as of late, with Rayburn Point dropping 7 of their last 10 with Brooke's Head has been 8-2 in the same stretch, closing a five-game gap.

Rayburn Point has continued to be the best pitching team in the Vim! League, leading in runs allowed (238), Starters ERA (3.03), and Bullpen ERA (3.52). Ace Nick Glawe (9-7, 2.77) and second starter Vrabe Swenson (6-4, 2.47) have been OK, but nothing compared to fourth starter John Kutner (12-1, 2.71) could be the leader for the Vim! Top Arm Award.

Brooke's Head has not been dominant in any statistical category, but they are in the top half of the VL in both offense and pitching. Offensively, 1B Clean Mullis (.292/16/33) and 2B Max Standing (.245/17/45) lead a powerful team that is 2nd in home runs (91). On the mound, SP/RP Adam Wood (8-3, 4.15) leads in wins. SP/RP Kory Dileva (3-1, 1.57, 5 SV) has taken Wood's starts as of late.

For the Fog Crawlers, they are the best offensive team in the Vim! League, leading in runs scored (383). Three players have stood out all season: LF James Darling (.358/13/43), C C.J. Abney (.318/13/57), and 3B Brad McCormick (.297/12/35). Two players, the 3rd and 4th starters, have been dominant this season: SP Dustin Gallogly (12-3, 3.13) and SP Cry Baby Uribe (11-3, 2.26).

Standings

Players of the Month

VL Hitter - RF Alex Hopp, Acadia, .318, 7 HR, 27 RBI, 15 R

Forth Hagen - oof!

They just traded for Stuart Costantino (first game) and then they (esp. Falcone) go cray on The Slog!

Silver Shroud Steamroll Ghouls, 17-1

Fort Hagen laid the wood on The Slog at Hubris Comics Park.

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud bested the The Slog Ghouls, 17-1, at Hubris Comics Park. Gargoyle Falcone was one of the standouts. He went 4 for 5 with 4 doubles, while scoring 2 and driving in 8. Derek Green, the winner, improved to 7-5. He held The Slog to 1 run on 3 hits over 9 innings, while racking up 13 strikeouts.

Early in the game, Falcone had a run-scoring double for Fort Hagen. It was his 18th double of the season and put the Silver Shroud on top, 1-0.

"I wish every win came this easy," said Falcone.

With the victory, the Silver Shroud upped their record to 36-28.

Fun Fact: With the four doubles, Falcone tied the CBO record for doubles in a game with Zeldolph Violet (Starlight) and Kurt Kilgore (Egret). But, did you know, new acquisition Stuart Costantino, just acquired in a trade with Quincy, is tied with Glenn Higinbotham (Starlight) for most hits in a single game, six?

That's why I like these fresh start leagues, it gives us a chance to be close to all the records.

Vim! Voyage

Vim! Voyage

Visiting Vim! League Vacation Venues

by Vikky Vail

6 July 2303

Harbor Grand Hotel

Erected prior to the Great War, the Harbor Grand Hotel was a lavish vantage point that served the affluent and venerable visitors voyaging to the Island. The guests who lodged at the hotel comprised Arnold Wabash, skipper of the nuclear American vessel USS Democracy, and his paramour Franny Richardson, who subsequently victimized and vexed him to furnish her the nuclear vault codes for the submarine. He yielded, but ere she absconded, he viciously vanquished her before yielding to his wounds.

The verdant gardens and exquisite views of the venue made it a coveted vacation spot for various famous personalities. The visionary Maine painter Dolemite Dan-Don Mezzerine spent many days here, sketching the stunning vistas that he later turned into some of his most renowned works. The virtuoso violinist Cruella DeLemonlime also visited the hotel, performing a private concert for the valiant veterans of the Alaskan War who were residing at the establishment.

The venue also played host to various VIPs, including the vivacious actress Vera Keyes, who stayed in the opulent presidential suite while filming her blockbuster movie Renting Love in New England. The charismatic politician Branson Jonesmith also visited the hotel, meeting with various dignitaries to negotiate peace during the Colonies War. The accomplished astronaut Natasha Vedvev also graced the hotel with her presence, sharing her experiences of being the fifty-first woman to travel into space with awe-struck guests.

However, the hotel's vibrant and vivacious atmosphere was not always harmonious. The notorious criminal Tony Italiano once stayed at the hotel, using it as a base of operations for his nefarious schemes. The valiant vigilante known as the Crimson Vengeance tracked him down to the venue, and after a violent confrontation, sent Italiano to jail for life or until he was let out on a technicality.

Despite its checkered history, the venue remained a beloved landmark for decades. Its verdant gardens and exquisite views were often cited as a source of inspiration for various writers, including Lainey Firesale and Dumbledore Todd. Today, the venue still stands as a testament to the bygone era of luxury and opulence, attracting tourists and history buffs alike who wish to experience a taste of its rich and varied history. It still has a long way to go to return to its former glory, but the bustling settlement is now "on the map."

Been super busy so late comment, but as always love these, even if it was a shorter one. "Cleaned up" Fallout is an interesting aesthetic. I guess going back to my comment a few weeks ago, I have indeed been informed there are apparently a few shows that just came back that are "retro-future" themed, though I haven't gotten around to them, but I'm guessing this general "50's future" look is the latest "in" thing thematically.

Speaking of that, I heard a lot about the Fallout TV series coming out and then have not heard anything in a year-plus.

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

7 July 2023

Breaking News: Roger Warwick to Sell Struggling Franchise

In a surprise move last night, Warwick Mirelurks owner Roger Warwick announced that he was selling his interest in the franchise. He cited wanting to watch more of his son Wally Warwick's games. Wally Warwick is a shortstop for the Diamond City Swatters.

Several groups have shown interest in recent years in investing in a franchise, something Commissioner Nate Howard addressed last night on Diamond City Radio in his weekly show.

"We've had several groups looking to invest in the CBO as franchise owners," Howard said, "but we do not have current plans to expand."

Howard mentioned that expansion would be considered in the future but only when the time is right. He mentioned needing another influx of talent before the league would be ready. He also mentioned that the stadium constructions happening would make it possible once the infrastructure is fully in place.

"We have stadiums being constructed, reparations to Downtown Boston, new train lines opening, expansions of our bus system, and major repairs and constructions for the metro lines," he said.

While there was no announcement who would buy the Mirelurks, Howard did mention groups that have emerged as being interested. He mentioned that the Mirelurks sale could be completed in the offseason with the highest bidder getting the nod.

In all, Howard named 11 groups and individuals, including some currently acting as minor investors and corporate sponsors. Those groups are:

Advanced Systems Group led by T.S. Wallace - no current sponsorship

Beantown Brewery led by Vadim Bobrov - current sponsor of the Quincy Gunners

Cabot House Estate led by Jack Cabot - current minor sponsor of the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys owned by his sister Emogene, owner of Cabot House and Parsons State Insane Asylum

Drumlin Diner led by Patrick Drumlin - current minor sponsor of the Vault 81 Dwellers

Longneck Lukowski's Cannery led by Theodore Collins - current minor sponsor of the Atom Cats

Railroad HQ led by Desdemona - no current sponsorship

The Rexford Group led by Rex Marowski - no current sponsorship but owner of the Rexford Hotel in Goodneighbor and the Four Leaf Fishpacking in Boston Harbor

Slocum's Joe led by Joe Savoldi - current sponsor of the Atom Cats

The Stockton Synth Relations group led by Amelia Stockton - current minor sponsor of the Concord Radstags

Individual investors include:

Paladin Danse - former CBO player and current bench coach for the FHE Yao Guai

Tommy Lonegan - owner of the Combat Zone and sponsor for BNN's weekly show, Saturday Slugfests

I was actually going to mention it awhile back but it must have slipped my mind because it was during one of your longer pauses. Someone on reddit posted about it, it's definitely filming, because one of the outdoor sets for Superduper Mart is down the street from their house (they had photo proof). Apparently some parts of Staten Island need minimal work to look the part

Spectacle Island Triumphs in Boston Youth Series

The Spectacle Island Reapers were good enough to get past the Fraternal Post 115 Leaders at The Park at the Post today and secure the 1st championship in franchise history.

"When you wear Reapers on your shirt, you're good at something," Spectacle Island skipper Nate Bedheadson told the press.

Reapers second baseman Bo McBean was named MVP of the series after he went .571 with 1 home run and 5 RBI.

"It feels totally incredible," McBean said. "I could live to 1,000 years old and I'd remember this moment."

The new champions capped off a great season with a 10-1 victory over the Leaders to win the Boston Youth Series 3-1.

Nukalurks Show No Mercy in 24-0 Thrashing of Gatorclaws

Roger Carlson of the Quantum Nukalurks spun his magic on the Wild Gatorclaws today. He blanked them 24-0 on 2 hits, registering 5 strikeouts and 3 walks.

"The bottom line was I just kept the ball down," Carlson said. "My breaking stuff was down. Everything was down."

Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, Quantum skipper Scott Dancer said the team "got solid pitching, good defense and took great team at-bats in a lot of different situations."

"Roger pitched really well but this was a solid performance by everyone," he said.

To date this season Carlson is 9-6 with 18 starts and an ERA of 3.62 with 84 strikeouts in 129.1 innings.

July 2303

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

13 July 2303

Feature Story: Strange Creatures, Clutch Wins

Before the season started, P.A.M. predicted the Railroad League standings to go as most people thought: Roxbury emerging, with Diamond City and Vault 81 both being in the wildcard hunt. What P.A.M. ddid not predict was for the FHE Yao Guai to be in the hunt for the playoffs.

However, that has not been the case in the actual season. The Yao Guai are among the top teams in the CBO in 2303, though they do share their league with the CBO's best in the Rad Sox. Still, FHE can boast a tie for the third-best record in the South Charles Association with the Atom Cats, meaning they are in good shape in the playoff hunt. Both Diamond City and Goodneighbor are tied for the next playoff slot at 41-31, two games behind the Yao Guai.

FHE has been a good overall team on the season in the SCA, ranking 5th in runs scored (350) and 2nd in runs allowed (272), a +78 run differential. Pitching has been their better aspect of the team, with their Starters ERA ranking 5th (3.57) and Bullpen ERA ranking 1st (3.12).

The recent acquisition of SP Tristan Marble (7-6, 2.77) in a trade with Oberland has meant even more enthusiasm for their postseason run. In addition, starters Josh Hugs (9-4, 3.56), Jerry Weisman (6-8, 3.87), and Taco LaVergne (8-3, 2.36) have helped boost the chance for the Yao Guai to get a solid start each game. Another 2303 acquisition, CL Tom Mannequin (19 SV, 1.06) has been the biggest gain so far, leading an outstanding bullpen. Relievers Daddy-O Sixx (2-1, 2.72) and Pray Tell (6-3, 3.62) have also been good. Peak Sizeman (8-6, 4.23), who moved to the bullpen after the Marble acquisition, can also contribute sold innings for the team.

On offense, the Yao Guai are led by RF Joe Rathmann (.318/10/43), who leads the team in batting and is second in homers and RBI behind LF Po Greenzone (.209/18/64). CF Willy Mazehaze (.282/3/30) has been a steady part of the top of the lineup, including his 18 steals, ranking him 2nd in the SCA. FHE gets decent power from the bottom of their lineup with recent acquisition 1B Bryan Assman (.201/9/32), 3B Joel Mutfruit (.249/13/45), and SS Hose Wallcrawler (.265/10/37).

Analysis

County Crossing returns to the #1 team in the Power Rankings thanks to a 9-1 run in their last 10. The Bloodbugs swept Sunshine Tidings (#14), won two of three at Finch Farm (#17), swept Lexington (#18), and then swept Salem (#20).

Roxbury dropped to #2 after going 4-6 in their last 10. They started by splitting with Jamaica Plain (#15), lost two of three versus the T-51s (#21), lost both games at Warwick (#24), and then won two of three at Diamond City (#9).

University Point comes in at #3 with a 9-1 run in their last 10. They swept the Swatters, swept Quincy (#19), split at Vault 81 (#11), and then got the sweep at Atom (#7) to take control of the Minutemen League.

At #4, we see our feature team, the FHE Yao Guai. They went 7-3 in their last 10, sweeping the Mirelurks, winning two of three over Diamond City, losing both at Jamaica Plain (#15), and then sweeping Oberland.

The last team in the Top 5 is Nordhagen Beach after an 8-2 run. The Party Boys split with Concord (#12), got the sweep at the Witch Hats' house, split at the Radstags, and then swept the Four Leafs. The Boys have now won 8 straight in the Brotherhood League and are now 15-3 in the BL since the start of June.

Jeeze, what a slaughtering!

Separately, I think it needs to be said that the Quantum Nukalurks are an S-Tier name

Looking at the CBO though, it seems like we may not have many divisional races. Despite that, the Wild Card could go a lot of ways, especially the NCS. Six teams now just two games apart
