Ohtani is now hitting .850 w RISP. Of course, when foul balls are called HRs, it's a bit easier.
(TBH, it was a very majestic foul ball. But still.) |

Of course I didn't look in here before watching the game.
![]() Maybe Severino was a slick fielder in his younger years. During the President Roosevelt administration. I'll let you guess which one.

Well, it was better than 68-94, at least. Funeral services will be held at 5 PM ET, 23.00 CET.
Joe Davis keeps claiming the Mets will need to throw a bullpen game, somehow missing that David Peterson, last I checked, was very much a starting pitcher. Or, if Mendoza wants to use an "opener", Senga could (try to) go 3, and Peterson the remaining 6. I know David Peterson can go 6 innings on 4 days' rest. I've seen him do it. With me own two eyes. The fulcrum of this game was when Quintana was pulled with two out and two on in the 4th, Dodgers up 3-2. Of course, Mendoza had little choice, since Quintana had thrown 83 pitches and it's not as if he had all winter to rest if the game got away from him. And then Butto came in and gave up the key 2-run double to Mookie Betts. Now, I could make a cheap pun based on Butto's surname, but that's been done to death. I think these puns have been so over-used that we have rectum. Quote:

A quantum of solace: at least they're not getting eliminated by an inch or a whisker. They're being eliminated with the force of the roaring Niagara Falls.
That's all I got anymore. ![]() ![]()

Classy move by Mendoza to at least give McNeil one consolation start for all that rehab time before we go home. (Especially since it was idiot management that ground his knees to powder in the first place. And because Candelita is colder than the weather.)
I can not tell you how ill it makes me that Tommy Bleeping Edman is the key reason we're losing. HGH Ortiz is wearing a lovely fuchsia jacket, so there's that. Man, if you could get royalties for appearing in recap videos, Jorge Lopez would be making more from replays of that glove toss than he did in salary during his Mets tenure. |

Peterson is indeed starting, as only makes sense.
So much for Joe Davis going "bullpen game" all night last night. It takes a hell of a lot to make me say "shut up so John Smoltz can talk!" but…Shut up, Joe. |

Not getting out of the fourth inning with eight runs of support is a whole new level of uselessness even for undisputely useless David Uselesson.
I wouldn't give a hoot if the entire pitching staff is fired after the inevitable NLCS exit.

"The Citi crowd loves it when Edwin Diaz enters!"
Has Joe Davis ever watched the Mets play before? Every half-decent Mets fan probably would prefer having explosive diarrhea than seeing Boom-Boom on the hill in a game that matters...!

Hey, all we have to do is score 11 or more runs in every game, and we're golden!
(Yes, a bit of bummer to see Peterson Petersonning again. He seemed to grow past that in August and September.) OTOH, have you welcomed Jesse Winker to the fold yet? |

I tolerate his existence on the roster, but I am not enthusiastic about it.

Six Most Common Words in English, again.
At least Squirrel found a couple of nuts. Well, I've said, we won't get there until 2031, simply based on history*. So it's a tease. (And a STFU to Manfred putting the Pirates and the Gnats and so on in the playoffs; #1 v #1 in the series, anyhow.) And so it goes. (Senga threw a bit without having his arm explode, so there's that, at least.) *- ignoring how 1969 was a unique occurrence and a gift from the gods, the Mets won a pennant in 1973, their 12th year of existence. They next reached the World Series in 1986, 13 years later. After that, not until 2000, 14 years later. And then 2015, 15 years later. So I've known we're not due back until 2031, but still, one can't help hoping. (They'd better finish the job in '31. I'm not certain I can last until 2048, much less 2066.) I am very, very sad right now. Very, very sad.

NYM v. LAD:
2-0 in NLDS (2006, 2015) 0-2 in NLCS (1988, 2024) Clearly, it's all in the timing. Huh. |

We still have Daniel Murphy's game-deciding steal of third base on a walk to Lucas Duda in Game 5, all because that rookie Corey Seager fell asleep.

So Rusty Staub was a big supporter of the "Tunnel to Towers" charity for the families of First Responders who were hurt in the line of service. And because of Rusty, the Mets as a whole have taken the charity to heart.
Today I saw a lovely new ad where Terry Collins talks about how in 2001 he was coaching for the Devil Rays, and the first games played in NYC after 9/11 were TB at NYY (the Mets were in Pittsburgh) and Wade Boggs (coaching in TB, having finished out back home after his time in Pinstripes) had all these local contacts and Terry was really impressed by the efforts and so forth. A fine ad from Collins…but what happened to the previous Mets spokesman for T2T? A fellow named "Peeeeeete Alonso", he did a lot of great spots. But now… Does Pete getting replaced imply that a little birdie told the head of the charity that the Polar Bear may be about to migrate? (Was that birdie named "Scott Boras"?) I don't want to give into paranoia, but I'm starting to twitch, ngl. Last edited by Amazin69; 11-28-2024 at 12:02 PM. |
