Walt Alston era Brooklyn Dodgers uniform colors
Can anyone here post a picture accurately depicting the colors of the Walt Alston era Brooklyn Dodgers uniforms? Everyone here surely knows that the Bklyn Dodgers colors were blue and red. But what shades exactly? Because I've been studying pictures recently and they're inconsistent and all over the place. In some photos, the Bklyn Dodger blue appears like those of classic Levi's dungarees. In others, the blue approaches the almost blackish midnight blue of the Yankees. And in others, the blue is the same lighter blue that the Los Angeles Dodgers now wear.
Any help and opinions would be appreciated. |

Miguel Fuentes 1969
As macabre as anything Topps will ever sell - the image it used on a Rookie Stars card of a player who was dead when the card came out.
In 1969 Miguel Fuentes did something we see once or twice a year but was almost unheard of then. He rocketed through the minors in one season to reach the Seattle Pilots on September 1. He made a series of effective relief appearances and starts and threw the last pitch any Pilot would ever hurl. And the next January 29th, with his first baseball card already in production and maybe even shipment, he was shot to death in a bar fight. He was 23. |

Hello all,
I have noticed lately that one of the tips that I picked up from this forum, was to embed a preview of an image so that it could be then saved. Now when I look to perform that same task I can no longer do it. Anyone have the same issue and/or have a different path to save the image? It could be user error as well but I'm at my wits end at this point. Thanks in advance! |

The image that I am looking to save has the "embed" above it. Yet when I select the embed and get the actual preview, it doesn't allow me to then save the image..... |

Skip James, Giants - In color!
With a handful of B&W shots out there, it was only a matter of time before the TV gave us a couple nice color shots of this short-tenure Giants infielder from the late 1970s.

Bill Pounds 1903
Pounds was signed by Cleveland at the start of the season and was on their Opening Day roster. He was brought in to pitch on May 2nd in the fourth inning in Chicago when the White Stockings had opened up a big lead; he gave up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits in the 16-6 loss. On May 18th he was released by Cleveland and was picked up shortly thereafter by the New York Highlanders. Pounds was in uniform with the team when the Highlanders visited Chicago for a series May 20th-22nd. A photographer from the Chicago Daily News was taking pictures of the players on the teams visiting both the American League and National League ballparks, and during this visit Pounds had his image preserved for posterity. Before the end of the month, without having appeared in a game for New York, he was sent back to Cleveland, apparently because he could not come to terms on a contract. On June 4th Pounds was signed by Brooklyn of the National League, but he did not appear in a game until June 30th. With Pittsburg ahead 12-0 after three innings, Pounds was sent in to pitch. He allowed five runs (four earned) in six innings on eight hits and two walks in the 17-8 loss, and gave up a long home run to Honus Wagner. On July 3rd, his contract was transferred to Baltimore of the Eastern League, along with that of Hughie Jennings and three other Dodgers. Pounds would never appear in another major league game. A few years after his career had ended, the Utica Observer described him in this way: “Bill Pounds was the champion sweater of the league. He perspired so much that…a miniature lake (formed) around the slab.” After the photographic archives of the Chicago Daily News were posted online in the late 1990's, the image of Pounds remained unidentified, or occasionally misidentified as Doc Adkins, for over a decade. The details of how he was discovered are described in the August 2016 issue of the SABR Pictorial History Research Committee Newsletter: http://sabr.org/research/pictorial-history-research-committee-newsletters Last edited by RUKen; 08-24-2016 at 02:47 PM. |

Doc Adkins 1902
Adkins began his major league career with the Boston Americans in 1902 (he pitched in four games and had a record of 1-1), and finished up with the New York Highlanders in 1903 (two games pitched without a win or a loss). His career continued in the minor leagues through 1914. A photo of Bill Pounds in a New York uniform had sometimes been misidentified as Adkins (see the post above); here is how Adkins actually looked as a Highlander: Last edited by RUKen; 08-24-2016 at 02:48 PM. |
