He's in a small photo that reproduces poorly, in the '67 Boston yearbook:

KD 23-24: Gary Lance
Good match here for Gary Lance, KD 23-24. Played for the Royals in 1977 (which is still out there you'd hope). Pictured is 1979 TCMA card (Seattle minor leaguer).

Yep, it's Lance, they've posted him before, with Seattle.

The Mother Lode Of Ghosts And Bill Sharmans And Spring Trainees
This is the information equivalent of Topps posting all of its remaining million-plus images simultaneously.
Veteran SABR research guru Bill Hickman has released his master list of a) everybody who made a major league mid-season roster but did not appear in a game, b) everybody who appeared on spring training rosters 1928-2007 but never played in a regular season major league game, and were that somehow not enough, c) all the non-roster invitees between 1950 and 1999 including the 1995 "replacement" players. Near Major Leaguers and the 'Bill Sharman Society' | Society for American Baseball Research Please stand well back from your computers when you open the file. (I will check my research on the Bill Sharman Society against Mr. Hickman's but I really doubt I have anybody he doesn't!) PS Boy was I mistaken. I've got 35 guys on my list he doesn't have on his. I'll keep you posted. Last edited by Merkle923; 10-18-2016 at 09:12 PM. |

Sharman List
FWIW,the first list, of those who were on rosters but did not play during the regular season, is only eight pages long printed landscape wth a slight reduction in size.

Joe Moock
Since I was, today, actively avoiding all of the things I should have been doing, I colorized a Moock that I don't think has been shared around here. So far as I know, as a Met, there's the color image from the One Year Winners set and a snap shot. I'm sure the OYW would be most people's default. I just think its a terrible pose is all. And the snap is too dark to do much with.
This image is from the 1968 Mets yearbook. It's one of the few Mets yearbooks I can think of where the minor league page in the early season yearbook and the revised yearbook are completely different. IIRC, Moock is in the season opening yearbook. In the revised, we get George Kazmarek. Others, too, in each, also different. Anyway.... Last edited by FatJack; 10-19-2016 at 01:11 AM. |

Dan Larson 1976
Could've sworn I posted one I took of this up-and-down Phillie of 1978-81 (21 appearances spread over four seasons!) but it was profile and he was just standing there anyway. Here's a pro photo from today's Topps uploads.
The Wednesday list (KD): 41-44 Ron Kline; 45-48 Ted Kubiak; 49-50 Cookie Lavagetto; 51-54 Dick Lange; 55-56 Marvin Lane; 57-60 Ken Landreaux; 61-62 George Lauzerique; 63-66 Charlie Lau; 67-68 Barry Latman; 69-70 Dan Larson; 71-74 Dave LaRoche; 75-76 Bill Larkin (P/Dodgers system); 77-78 Dave LaPointe; 79-80 Rick Langford; 81-84 Darold Knowles; 85-88 Bobby Knoop; 89-90 Chuck Kniffin (P/Phillies system); 91-94 Bob Knepper; 95-98 Chris Knapp; 99-100 Mickey Klutts. I think I can upgrade Moock. Standby. Last edited by Merkle923; 10-19-2016 at 02:10 PM. |

Joe Moock 1967
When this was taken at Shea Stadium in September, 1967, he might have been the second or third top position player prospect in the Mets' system. By the middle of the next season he was off the radar, untouched in the expansion draft, and sold to the first-year Expos. He hit a homer - Montreal's first - in an intrasquad game and remained in camp until the last round of cuts, but never played in the major leagues again.
Although I recall the Mets had some questions about his communicative skills, he wound up coaching a high school team back home in Louisiana. Last edited by Merkle923; 08-05-2017 at 12:41 AM. |

Joe coached both baseball and football at a Baton Rouge high school, and he taught history as well. He spent 22 years with that school and was well praised by his kids. Last edited by FatJack; 10-19-2016 at 04:18 PM. |

Just looked at Baseball-Reference. They regard that supplemental draft as the regular Rule 5 draft. Since Moock never played in the majors, none of the transactions he was a part of are listed on his page.

Trouble with the Vault?
Just wanted to check - for more than a couple of hours I haven't been able to connect to the Auction Helper page that hosts the TV images. Never had this happen before and would like to make sure it isn't something on my end. Have others experienced this?

It's not you. But I was able to access it earlier this afternoon and download all the TV images that have been dropped in Folder KD so far. If it stays down for an extended period, let me know what you were looking for.

I stand corrected on his playing in the bigs with the Mets, but still, his transactions history aren't listed.
I think that first-year expansion teams that chose players in the Rule 5 draft did not have to return them if they didn't make the final 25 roster. Looks like Moock was dealt to the Braves by the Expos during the '70 season and retired afterwards. |

Still, 35 is a surprisingly large number to miss. Although I do see he came down on the "yes" side of The Great Billy Cotton Controversy, so that's good, IMO. |
