Luis Alvarado 1968

In 1977 Luis Alvarado played in 2 big league games getting just one AB with the Tigers to close out his career

I would like some help on where these pictures were taken. I look at the Transaction page for Alvarado and see that the Mets purchased him from the Tigers on 2/25/77 so i am assuming camp started before that for Detroit. The Mets carried Alvarado until 4/27 when he was returned to the Tigers where he stayed until his release on 6/22.

Anyway...here is Luis Alvarado to close out his up and down 9 year big league career with the Tigers

The baseball-reference transaction on Alvarado is incorrect. The correct date is March 25, 1977. So presumably the picture was taken at some point in March 1977.

KE155-156 has Amalfitano in an Angels uniform. When was he with them? Baseball-reference.com doesn't have any mention of him being signed by/traded to the Angels.

Washington had very nice unis for the 1890s. I like the 3/4 sleeve jersey/uniform with the cold weather sweatshirt or long sleeved undershirt underneath....a style still used to day.

Norm Angelini 1972

Lefty Norm Angelini made his big league debut with the Royals on 7/22/72 against the Orioles. He pitched in 21 games for the 72 Royals all in relief and went 2-1 with a 2.25 E.R.A while saving 2 games. He did not make the team out of Spring Training in 73 but did get a call up in May pitching in 7 games with 1 SV and a 4.91 E.R.A over 3.2 IP.

Angelini pitched 2 more seasons in the Royals organization before going to the Braves in 1976 where he pitched for their AAA team for 2 years. He pitched in AAA for the Expos from 1978-81 and while putting up solid numbers he never returned to the big leagues.

Amalfitano An Angel in Spring of 1964

Have not yet found the coming or going transaction, but I did find a March 15, 1964, game account with Amalfitano playing shortstop for the Angels alongside Bobby Knoop.

Baseball Reference has Amalfitano being purchased from the Giants by the Cubs on March 29. Was he on loan? Was it a conditional deal that was called off? He was not part of the Rule V draft that winter.

Must be a Rule V:

From NY Times, March 29 1964

"The Los Angeles Angels today returned the contract of Joe Amalfitano, an infielder, to the Tacoma, Wash., farm of the San Francisco Giants for subsequent sale to the Chicago Cubs. Amalfitano could take over the Cubs' spot vacated by the death of Ken Hubbs in a recent Utah plane crash.
Fred Haney, Angels' general manager, said he was sending Amalfitano back because his team "had sufficient infield protection."
Amalfitano, 30 years old, had been batting 270 this spring with the Angels and had hit two home runs. Last season he played with the Giants and Tacoma. He has had experience playing at third and shortstop

We'll see what he says, because he had previously reported that Caballero was the last living Blue Jay. He's a good guy. I'm sure he would admit his mistake if it turns out to be that Don Hasenmayer is really the last living Blue Jay.

My source at baseballfever.com who makes these age lists up insists that 1945 was not a Blue Jay year. Therefore, he claims that Don Hasenmayer was a Phillie and that Ralph Caballero was the last living Phila.Blue Jay. For this information he cites:
baseball-refence.com/Bullpen.

Amalfitano was sent to the Angels on an approval basis. Never actually changed organizations, no sale, no draft - and when they decided they had no role for him, he was returned to the Giants (and as indicated, sold to the Cubs).

Ed Acosta 1970

Seen him in a Padres gold/brown mix cap with a gray jersey (1971) and an all-brown cap with a gold jersey (regular season 1972) but never in an all-brown cap with a gray jersey (spring training 1972).

Thursday Topps uploads (KE): 201-202 Ed Acosta; 203-204 Cy Acosta; 205-206 Brian Abraham; 207-208 Ted Abernathy; 209-212 Don Aase; 213-216 Glenn Abbott; 217-218 Tommie Aaron; 221-240 NFL/AFL.

If you know the particulars, you should let baseball-reference.com know. They normally list conditional deals on the Trrnsactions part of players pages.
