Gordie Pladson 1979
A little cleaner image. Took it myself, during the 1980 season, in New York.

It's a small photo, but gives you something to work with. From the 1981 multiple-rookie card.

Thanks to Sportsmem817 for the good photo of Bob Sadowski that he's just submitted. I was just about to ask the forum if anyone had a good shot of him with the Phillies when this nice photo suddenly appeared. I had only a very shadowy b&W one of him as a Phillie. The one he's submitted is way beyond all expectations.

Jackie Brown (1943 - 2017)
Longtime pitcher and coach Jackie Brown passed away yesterday (January 8, 2017) at the age of 73. Brown pitched for the Senators/Rangers, Indians and Expos in his 7 year major league pitching career. He served on the coaching staffs of the Rangers, White Sox and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Jackie was originally signed by the Phillies in 1962. They released him in 1968 and he was immediately picked up by the Senators, for whom he made his major league debut in 1970.
The Vault releases have shown Jackie with the Senators and Rangers, thus far (JC971-974, KC655-656, KC783)--if there are earlier releases, I don't have those marked. The B&W Rangers photo below accompanied an obituary, while the Expos images are of Jackie's 1978 Topps card and a team issued postcard from the Trading Card database. |

Quick Question. Does anyone know of a source where I can confirm who was on the 1967 World Series rosters? Baseball Reference does include compiled statistics which confirm the 25 man roster for Boston however, for St Louis, only 23 players got into games. I have confirmed that an 11th pitcher (Al Jackson) made the roster because while listening to the radio broadcast, he was warming up in game 2. That leaves one player. Alex Johnson, John Romano or someone else? Would appreciate if someone can confirm for me.
Thank you, Jeff Last edited by okcochise; 01-09-2017 at 04:52 PM. |

This Phillies color original - and two upgrades - were somehow insufficient?

The World Series program shows 26 guys on each roster. Don't know the accuracy of it. but here is a link for what it's worth.

1967 World Series Programs/25-Man Rosters
Actually, no, they don't show 26 guys each.
There were two home-produced World Series programs in those days (until 1975) and not the MLB-generated lone version garbage they sell now. The 1967 Cardinals' program for Games 3, 4, and 5, shows (as you'd expect) 25 Cardinals players. It's the horizontal list below. The 1967 Red Sox program for Games 1, 2, 6, and 7, shows 26 Red Sox, but includes the beaned and inactive Tony Conigliaro as a kind of tribute. Only the other 25 guys were active. It's the vertical list below. |

Al Spangler 1959
Resuming with a couple of Dexter images from 1966. The veteran outfielder didn't spend much time with the Angels, and the only two color shots I've ever seen of him are from 1965 and bears the "LA" cap.
