Del Bates 1970

Del Bates had one month in the majors and got 14 starts behind the plate as a 30-year old rookie with the Phillies - but he'd come close to playing for at least three other clubs.

He made the Braves' 1967 opening day roster but didn't get into a game, was in the depth chart for the Orioles after they got him early in 1968, and had been - as Dexter shows us - in the Angels' camp in 1966.

Jackie J. Warner 1966

After his game against the A's on the night of Wednesday, May 4, 1966, rookie right fielder Jackie Warner of the Angels was hitting .345 with a .691 slugging percentage, five homers, and thirteen RBI in his first 15 major league games. Three of his homers won games for the Angels, and after the May 4th game manager Bill Rigney would promote him to the 5th spot in the Cherub batting order.

He would get seven more major league hits.

Warner - always injury-prone - had caught his hand in an outfield fence robbing Leon Wagner of a home run in spring training 1966. And then in May while batting against Pete Richert of the Senators he said he heard something pop in his hand. He had torn the ligament between the thumb and forefinger of his other hand.

Originally the Hegans were identified as Fran Healy. Hegan was a coach for the Yanks at the time of the photos.

Dexter Angels

Sorry. None of them, except Malzone.

Those you listed would've been the first ones I posted.

It's great that someone is going through this with fresh eyes. It is possible to make it a useful, if not essential, reference.

More of an FYI post.

A seller on eBay, b-e-collectibles, has a number of lots of these what look to me like McCarthy "sample" prints for sale (at prices well beyond my price range). The seller doesn't really identify the visible images, though he more or less lists the names of some in the descriptions (and IDs are on the backs). Teams he has lots for at present are Giants, Expos, Padres, Reds, Cardinals, Dodgers, Astros, and Phillies. I'm of course, horrendous at facial recognition, so I'm only posting a couple I can get. A larger (albeit autographed) version of the Mudcat Grant image can be found in this Braves70 post. Some of the lots are as few as 2 photos. Others are more like 8 or 10. Might be some guys folks are looking for, if you've got a wad of cash burning a hole in your pocket. The Astros image below, for example, is Steve Shea and Fred Stanley. Don't know that I'd ever seen a color Stanley with the team that originally drafted him before (and those 2 plus Scipio Spinks will only run ya $95...plus shipping). Anyway, they're there for you to be had. Or not.

Sad start to the new year for Phillies fans.

Very Strange: 3 ex-Phillies died in three consecutive days in the first week of the new year, 2017. .
Jan. 5 USA time. (Jan. 6 Australia time) - Greg Jelks - age 55 - 3B - 1987 Phillies. (died in Australia - USA/Australia dual citizen).
Jan. 6. - Bob Sadowski - age 79 - 3B/INF - 1961 Phillies.
Jan. 7. Billy Champion - age 69 - RHP - 1969-1972 Phillies.

This was a list I stumbled to while searching Goggle. The list was done by Rico43 who is a member here. I thought that it was common knowledge but here is the link. Sorry for the confusion.VAULT

Topps Vault List

Is anyone working on, or has anyone already created, an index to go with this list?

I hope you saved the Expos because that lot is gone already.

About Azcue and Miles - you've asked twice and gotten no response. That is probably your answer.
