Joe Azcue 1960

Jose Azcue, 1969 Red Sox... the two original scans have been in my files for a while and were almost certainly glommed off eBay way back when.

Some Dexters are back from the lab and here are a few by request, starting with the Red Sox All-Star wrapping it up in Anaheim in 1966.

John Duffie 1967

I can still hear Bob Murphy and Lindsey Nelson explaining that he was one of the youngsters the Dodgers were hoping would help offset the loss of Sandy Koufax...

The 6'7" righty made two starts, brief but not bad, then went back to the minors for two more years.

Great image, no?

By request, posed in both the Kansas City (1967) and Oakland (1968) iterations.

By the way, a long-time collector forwarded me three links to blog posts on the history of the Dexter cards and the story of one of the photographers. If you just like to see pictures of the baby and you don't want to hear about the labor pains, skip these. Otherwise they're great reading:

One more tonight by request. More to come.

Who lit these? I took some better photos without taking off the lens cap.

Seeing those Azcue pics brings back memories for this Red Sox fan. He was part of the deal that sent Hawk Harrelson to the Indians in exchange for Sonny Siebert in April of '69. Azcue for some reason didn't play much with the Red Sox for the two months he was with Boston and was sent to the Angels for Tom Satriano at the June 15 trade deadline.

The road uniform he has on...I believe that was the first year for the red trim around the "BOSTON" on the front and number on the back.

Azcue may not have played that much in a Red Sox uniform, but he can always say that his number was retired at Fenway Park.

Tom Makowski 1975

Tom Makowski made three relief appearances for the 1975 Tigers... this is an unimproved scan of a small photo recently purchased from Old Vintage Postcards. I think this is the first color image we have of Makowski.

I'm removing the image pending a ruling from the moderator.

Alan Koch 1963

Alan Koch made seven relief appearances for the 1963 Tigers and three more early in the '64 campaign before being sold to Washington. There was a so-so color image of Koch with Detroit in the One Year Winners/Wonders (which is correct?) card sets... ToppsVault offered him in color with the Senators quite a while back. The image is an unimproved scan of a small photo recently purchased from Old Vintage Postcards and seems to be the photo used for his Jewish Major Leaguers card.

Koch and Makowski

Heads up. Those are both George Brace shots. The Makowski has turned up in google image searches for at least three years, though the website that posted it appears to have become derelict.
