The league started right in his prime years which lasted through 1908. His game fell apart after that and as a result he fell short of the Hall of Fame. He made 3 all-star teams and had one gold glove. His career highlight was a no-hitter in 1908 against the Arizona Diamondbacks, missing out on a perfect game due to 2 defensive errors.

His prime years took place in his mid-30s, leading me to wonder how well he would have done had the league existed when he was in his mid-20s. He made three all-star teams and also pitched a no-hitter with no walks but it was not a perfect game either.

Humberto Paz, LHP
He had a nice career as a solid above average starter and made two all-star teams. His age 36 and 37 seasons were spent with the Indy League where he performed replacement level to average before retiring.

Pete Woods, LHP
He was also a solid average to above average starter for 7 years, making one all-star team before age caught up with him. He was also the 1906 AL League Championship MVP with the Orioles. His last 2 seasons were spent in the Indy league before retiring.

Javy Diaz, RF
The lone hitter in this year's prospective class. He went to 4 all-star teams, won 4 silver sluggers, and was the 1905 AL League Championship MVP, helping propel Boston to their World Series championship.

Jonathan Altamirano, RHP
He's at the bottom of this list but might be the closest to actually making it in this year. Relief pitchers have to stand out quite a bit in order to make the Hall and Altamirano...almost fits the bill. He was a 4-time all-star, 2-time Reliever of the Year, and 2-time World Series champion. His 323 saves ranks third all-time and his 35.7 WPA ranks second all-time among relievers. However, his overall WAR value is a little low along with his total career length and strikeout to walk ratio.

Wes Grossman, RF
He was taken 14th overall out of California in 1906 and is very intelligent. He won the AL MVP in 1908 and has been to three all-star teams along with winning three silver sluggers.

Bill Desmond, SS
Desmond is fresh off winning his second MVP award - the first coming in his Rookie of the Year season. He has also made two all-star teams and won a silver slugger. His name may not give it away but he is Bahaman. He was drafted 10th overall in 1907 out of Boston College.

Mike Pohlman, SS
The 61st overall pick in 1901 from Central High School in California. He didn't make the major leagues until 1906 but won the Rookie of the Year and has since made two all-star teams, won three silver sluggers, and was the 1911 World Series MVP in the Padres championship year.

Zhaire Daniel, RHP
He finished 2nd in the NL Pitcher of the Year Award voting in 1910 and has settled into an above average role. He was selected 24th overall in 1905 out of Texas A&M.

Alonso Carvajal, 3B
Carvajal didn't come from high school or college - he is the first notable international scouting discovery, signing in 1904. His rookie year was 1908 and he has only been getting better into his 20s. He is a two-time all-star and two-time silver slugger.

Dave Farver, LF
Only 28 years old but his body is wrecked. He was selected 1st overall in 1902 out of Sachem East High School and has spent a lot of time on the disabled list. He did manage to stay healthy enough in 1908 to win a silver slugger.

D.J. Vetter, SS
He was a 2nd round pick out of the New Mexico high school league in 1904 and signed with the Phillies. He's a 3-time all-star, two-time silver slugger, and world series champion.

Tim Winward, CF
He was the 8th overall pick in 1901 out of Apopka High School and has injury problems of his own, with a health status of wrecked. He has won one gold glove and been to two all-star games. He was also named the 1907 NL Championship Series MVP.

Jim Slack, CF
The 11th overall pick from Villanova in 1906. He has been consistently above average for 5 years, making 3 all-star teams and winning a World Series.

The top free agent is Jack Gilkey - He has been an above average starter since coming into the league after signing with the Cubs as the 9th overall pick in 1906.


The top batter is Smack Housand - whose name alone should up the price. He also has been an above average player and was drafted 9th overall but in 1904 out of high school.

There are also a couple interesting players on the market who are now in their 40s - J.P. Avila and Nate Clements. Both are easily Hall of Fame players but still might have some left in the tank.

Top Prospects:
R.J. Taylor - The top prospect in 1908. After he lost time in 1912 due to injury, he fractured his thumb in 1913 and lost out on a lot of good playing time. He is now listed as injury prone, which is typically a mark of immediate decline.

Draftees:
Tomas Reed - He was only drafted 5 years ago and has taken the league by storm with 4 MVP awards.

Owen Clodfelter- The top high school draft prospect. He has played 2 games in the major leagues so far after sticking in the minor leagues for over 4 years.

Curtis Adams - The best pitcher in the 1908 draft. He started in the big leagues as a reliever but quickly moved into a starting role and won the Pitcher of the Year Award in 1911.

Award Winners:
Wes Grossman - After winning the 1908 AL MVP, he has still played very well but just not at the MVP level. He has made three all-star teams and won 5 silver sluggers.

Michael Carter - The 1908 AL Rookie of the Year. He was above average for a few years but his career fell apart in 1911 where he suddenly became replacement level, although his overall rating is still quite good.

Other:
Benedicto Toledo - He had a 41 game hitting streak in the Florida High School league.

Celio Cabedo - Hard to believe it has been 5 years since an elbow injury took Cabedo's career away. He was the Mets pitching coach for two years, the Braves bench coach for two years, and he spent 1913 as the Diamondbacks manager, going 61-101, although to be fair, the Dbacks are one of the worst franchises.

Chris Jay - After not signing with the Brewers in the 3rd round, he went to Kentucky where he had little impact. He was signed by the Orioles in the 1st round of 1911 and is still in the low levels of their system.
