MLB news: Sept. 9 -- Cards' Donovan and Pirates' Mlodzoinski suspended after brawl
MLB has announced that St. Louis Cardinals OF/IF Brendan Donovan and Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Carmen Mlodzinski have both been suspended after a recent fight in the Cardinals' 11-5 win in Pittsburgh.
Donovan charged the mound instigating the fight after he was hit by a pitch following a home run by the previous hitter Nolan Gorman. Donovan will have to sit for four games. Mlodinski got just two. Last edited by rink23; 02-18-2024 at 04:21 AM. |

Cards news: Sept. 11 -- Rotator cuff injury ends Newcomb's season
The St. Louis Cardinals have placed left-handed relief pitcher Sean Newcomb after he suffered a rotator cuff strain during a 9-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Sept. 8.
In his first season with the Cardinals, Newcomb has pitched in 56 games going 0-1 with four saves and a 3.45 ERA. The 31-year-old is eligible for arbitration in the off-season. Replacing Newcomb on the roster will be 28-year-old left-hander Charles Barnes. Called up from AAA Memphis, Barnes has pitched in 22 games this season, making seven starts for the Redbirds. He owns a record of 6-3 with two saves and a 3.77 ERA. |

MLB news: Sept. 18 -- Dodgers sew up another NL West title
With an 11-2 win over the San Francisco Giants, the Los Angeles Dodgers are the champions of the National League West Division for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
The Dodgers lead the second-place Arizona Diamondbacks by 18.5 games with 17 games remaining in the season. At 91-54, the Dodgers own the best record in baseball. The second-best mark belongs to the Texas Rangers at 90-56. The Atlanta Braves sit at 88-57. This will be the 14th consecutive playoff appearance for L.A. The only season they advanced as a wild card was in 2021 when it finished a game behind the Giants. The Dodgers last reached the World Series in the 2020 COVID season, when they defeated the Boston Red Sox. |
