New Goals ...

[1] Upgrade RF, seems like owner doesn't appreciate my Church/Gonzalez platoon. Let's see what upcoming in the FA market.

Upcoming free agents ..... oh boy, should I? I admit, I thought about for a minute ... upgrading RF, and making a great storyline for dynasty.

But, in the end, there is no way I'm taking on that contract, to go with Logan Webb's contract, and it's likely not realistic for a market St Louis's size.

Here's the available RF FA. I'm keying on Adolis Garcia, with Randy Arozamena, both St Louis cast offs, ironically.
Now, the 2nd item ---- sign Anthony ...

Let's see what Anthony is thinking ...

10y 300,000,000 w/ 40M/y at his peak .... it's not that horrific actually. I think I can ramp it up gradually to a peak and then wind down, possibly in the range that we'd get a discount and he'd still be happy enough.

Andruw Jones comes up just short in the HoF voting during his LAST year on the ballot.

Jones missed by 0.3%, with a yes vote of 74.7%

Ya gotta admit, that's crazy.

Tampa sent me this proposal. I thought about it, a couple of times.

[1] I don't want to take on money for 1B. I feel like we have a good prospect at 1B that could develop into a solid power hitter.

[2] I don't want to give up that LHP prospect. StL has about 9 minor league prospects that are factors for the ML rotation in the next 1-3 years. I'm assuming half of them don't make it, and go RP. So, I don't want to cut bait with SP prospects, until the ML team's performance demands that I do.

Before the free agency period starts, a couple of big teams made some big deals.

The Mounties acquire a huge pitching prospect, ML ready.

World Champion Orlando trade for solid SP Pablo Lopez.

A few of these P will be pitching in the ML, this season or next. The only thing I cannot have them do is give up home runs. So, I'm trying to get that attribute up as much as possible, and then the STF and CNT will come along with experience. But, getting bombed out at the ML level is the quickest ray to dry a prospect.

This has been the goofiest start to the season I've experienced with a team predicted to win the division.

I tried to get Anthony to improve his strength in the development lab, failed ... then he comes out and starts dropping bombs.

The newly acquired Adolis Garcia starts dropping bombs, including grand slams in consecutive games.

Barossa, DeLatuer, Church, etc ... everybody's getting on base. The offense was hot, but then Starting rotation was cold.

Then the offense cooled off, and the starting rotation heated up, and then the reliever were taking turns playing "Who was going to implode today?"

Then the offense was medium, the bullpen was hot, and then starting pitchers decided we were going to walk a lot of guys and give up bombs.

Just all over the place.

Quote:
By the end of April, the offense had stabilized and settled in around the borderline of a top 10 offense. But, by then the rotation was a mess. Webb is solid, Aldegheri has been great, but Scherzer walks more batters than he strikes out and loves to give up 4 consecutive hits, and he seems to be hitting that aging wall that many suspected was coming. Nola has been plagued by the longball. Musgrove has been a walking gas can. The bullpen has been more volatile than bullpens typically are.

Quote:
To make matters even crazier, the Shires start the season with 16 road games, going 9-7 ... which is pretty good.

It looked like the team was straightened out, winning 7 of 8, until StL went to LA and ran into 3 quality starters, 2 of them CYA candidates (Rasmussen and Skubal)
