Medford: The Mystic Meadow by the Ford

As I peered across the Mystic River, I thought about the research I did for this story. Usually, I spend a lot of my time in diners and cafes, looking at the settlement from the here and now. The people, the squalor of a devastated land converted into a thriving, emerging society. When visiting the library to research this story, I was compelled to follow a different path. One of history converted into the present, an old Boston suburb as an emerging landscape of a city expanding again.

Exploring the remnants of post-apocalyptic Medford, Massachusetts, unveils a town steeped in a rich tapestry of history, resilience, and adaptation. Long before the arrival of European settlers, the land was inhabited by Native American communities, including the Naumkeag people who thrived along the Mystic River. Their winter home in Medford witnessed both moments of cultural exchange and tragic loss due to the ravages of disease and conflict. Nanepashemet, a revered sachem, lost his life during a war in 1619, while the area became a focal point of native burials, including the sacred Sagamore Park in West Medford.

Following the devastating smallpox epidemic of 1633, the Squaw Sachem of Mistick, Nanepashemet's widow, assumed leadership and gradually deeded vast portions of Naumkeag territory to English settlers. In 1639, the Massachusetts General Court acquired the land that would eventually become Medford, residing within Charlestown's boundaries, through a purchase from the Squaw Sachem. These historical foundations would shape the town's identity for centuries to come.

In the aftermath of the Great War, Medford found itself transformed by the cataclysmic event and faced with the task of rebuilding and adapting to the new world. Once known as Spot Pond, the area now referred to as Dark Hollow Pond acquired its evocative name due to the eerie darkness that seemed to linger within its depths. Legend has it that a mysterious radioactive substance seeped into the waters, casting an ominous shadow over the pond and surrounding environs. Whether based in truth or urban myth, the name Dark Hollow Pond stands as a chilling reminder of the lingering consequences of the Great War.

In this post-apocalyptic landscape, the Medford Medical Center emerges as a beacon of hope and resilience. Serving as the major employer in the area, the center's dedicated staff tirelessly works to provide healthcare and support to the community. Their unwavering commitment to healing and well-being serves as a testament to the strength and adaptability of Medford's residents, who continue to persevere in the face of adversity.

In the midst of the post-apocalyptic landscape of Medford, companionship and recreation emerge in the form of the Medford Medics baseball team. Competing in the Greater Boston Rookie League, the Medics showcase the unwavering spirit and resilience of the town's residents. But their contribution to the community goes beyond the baseball diamond. During the offseason, several players from the Medics take on internships at the Medford Medical Center, blending their passion for the game with a commitment to healthcare. This offseason, five players—third baseman Ben Frith, relief pitcher Joe Phillips, starting pitcher Mee Deechi, shortstop Mirano Brieve, and right fielder Travis Kettle—donned scrubs and dedicated their time and talents to serving the community within the walls of the hospital. These remarkable athletes embody the true spirit of Medford, seamlessly transitioning from the intensity of the baseball season to the compassionate work of healing and care.

The Mystic River, a prominent feature in Medford's geography, has become a vital source of industry and sustenance for the community in caravan water trading. Once a lifeline for trade and transportation, the river now fuels the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the town's inhabitants. From fishing expeditions to the establishment of small-scale hydroelectric power stations, the Mystic River serves as a catalyst for economic rejuvenation, providing a sense of hope and stability in uncertain times.

A poignant reminder of the town's enduring history lies within the hallowed grounds of Wildwood Cemetery. Once a serene final resting place for Medford's residents, the cemetery has now taken on a new significance as the Commonwealth's major burial site. Rows of tombstones, weathered by time and the elements, bear witness to the stories and legacies of those who came before. Amidst the crumbling headstones, the cemetery stands as a poignant symbol of remembrance and an enduring connection to the past.

In the wake of the Great War, Medford has weathered the storm of destruction, drawing strength from its historical foundations and the resilient spirit of its people. As I ventured through this post-apocalyptic landscape, the echoes of the past mingled with the whispers of a community determined to forge a future amidst the remnants of the old world. Medford, a town of adaptation and perseverance, reveals itself as a place where history and hope intertwine, leaving an indelible mark on those who dare to explore its mysteries.

These are always some good RL photos you find. Appreciate it. Even in the internet age it can be surprisingly hard to find such things.

I've had to mix it up for the places that are in-game but not actual settlement places in the game. The real geography has a few problems, too (Somerville and Jamaica Plain, among them), but I have "made do," so to speak.

The pre-War pictures definitely are prettier

Terminal Intercept

01.05.2304

I'm later than usual sending this out. The signal has been strengthened and we got confirmation from a tracking signal we attached to someone. We call it a beacon. Like a beacon of hope. He told me he was looking for you, so we're tracking him. Can't leave yet but we can see how much distance he made so far. These quadcycles have proved effective--let's just hope the bad guys don't get their hands on them or the tech we used to make them.

I know, you don't want politics in the reports. OK, baseball. It was Novac this year. Downed NVegas because why not? PS your fav player is the quad guy. He thought north in case you're on the move. We had word from other travelers. Thank you, Andres! You taught us what we didn't know.

We have a nice network of tech and a new underground movement. We're going to do this but eyes are on Po and me. We just get the messages and try to blast this out. Why is it just one-way? What are we missing to actually connect with you. Are you even out there? What the hell did your messages mean. What is my future?

A Hubflower for Magnolia: The Case of the Jilted Lovers

Chapter 5: The Silver Shroud Strikes

The next night was almost a repeat of the last. I was watching closely for any unusual characters, a tough task when they all are unusual. Then, I heard another commotion above us, causing me to rush toward the noise. I reached the top of the stairs and entered the entryway where the scuffle was taking place. It was a small, dimly lit space filled with overturned furniture and broken bottles. Ham, the bouncer, was engaged in a fierce brawl with a burly man twice his size. Their punches landed with thunderous thuds, shaking the room with each blow.

Without hesitation, I rushed forward to lend Ham a hand. Together, we managed to fend off the unruly assailant, causing him to run out of the Third Rail.

I started to pursue but my detective eyes distracted me, searching for any clues or hints that might shed light on the recent events. Amidst the chaos, I noticed a crumpled piece of paper on the floor. I picked it up and unfolded it, revealing a hastily written note.

"Stay away from Magnolia. She's mine. You've been warned."

The words sent a chill down my synthetic spine. It seemed that Magnolia had indeed attracted the attention of someone with ill intentions. But why would the big guy attack if he was delivering a warning note? Something wasn't adding up, and I intended to get to the bottom of it.

Just as I was pondering the puzzling situation, there was another sudden burst of commotion outside the Third Rail. The sound of muffled voices and scuffling reached my ears. Instinctively, I reached for my revolver, preparing for whatever awaited me.

I rushed out the Third Rail, accompanied by Ham. The commotion had escalated, and I knew I had to intervene before things got out of hand. As we reached the location of the noise, I spotted the same burly man held at gunpoint by a figure in a silver trench coat and fedora—the unmistakable presence of the Silver Shroud.

The Silver Shroud's deep, gravelly voice echoed through the room. "Your reign of harassment ends here, scoundrel. The Silver Shroud always protects the innocent."

I shouted out, “Don’t, Nate!” Before I could make my way toward them, the Silver Shroud swiftly moved, delivering a precise shot to the man's abdomen. The man let out a pained gasp and crumpled to the ground, clutching his stomach.

Without wasting a moment, the Silver Shroud turned and vanished into the shadows, leaving me standing there wondering why Nate would flee.

I approached the injured man, who was now writhing on the street in pain. Ham stood by my side, a stern expression etched on his face. I crouched down beside the man, examining him closely.

"Who are you, and why were you harassing Magnolia?" I demanded, my voice filled with authority.

“I-I’m Mosey. Mosey Long,” he said winced in pain as he struggled to catch his breath. "Please. I’m bleeding. I... I didn't mean no harm. I just... I just wanted a chance with her, you know? But she turned me down, and I got angry. I didn't mean to cause any trouble."

I maintained my steely gaze, my detective instincts guiding my questioning. "Why did you try to break into the Third Rail? What were your intentions?"

Mosey looked down, shame evident in his eyes. "I just... I thought maybe she would change her mind. I didn't want to give up so easily. I know it was stupid, but I couldn't help myself."

I let out a sigh, realizing that Mosey was more misguided than malevolent. "Harassment is never the answer, Mosey. You crossed a line, and now you have to face the consequences."

Ham chimed in, his voice stern. "Consider yourself lucky that the Silver Shroud didn't do worse. Now, we'll be escorting you to the clinic, and you better stay away from Magnolia and Goodneighbor."

Mosey nodded, a mix of fear and regret etched on his face. I stood up, ready to fulfill my duty as a detective. "Ham, make sure Mosey leaves the premises and ensure he understands the gravity of his actions."

Ham nodded and grabbed Mosey by the collar, leading him towards the alley where Goodneighbor’s small clinic was located. As they disappeared into the night, I turned my attention back to the unfolding investigation.

The Silver Shroud's involvement had added a new layer of complexity to the case. It was evident that there was more to Magnolia's situation than a simple stalker. The Silver Shroud's actions didn't fit the supposed stalker's modus operandi, and I couldn't help but wonder if there was a larger conspiracy at play. I then again thought about Nate and why he would be here in Goodneighbor right now. Things just were not adding up.

I knew I had to dig deeper, uncovering the truth behind these tangled threads. The answers lay hidden within the shadows of Goodneighbor, and I was determined to shed light on the darkness that threatened Magnolia's safety. Or at least the safety of the men pursuing her attention.

With renewed determination, I set out to gather more information and track down any leads that could bring me closer to the elusive truth. The Silver Shroud's strike had left its mark, both on the injured man and on my investigation. It was time to uncover the secrets that lurked beneath the surface and protect those who needed it most.

But first, I needed to locate Nate.

2304 Preseason

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

2 February 2304

Nuka Cup Tournament Schedule Set

For the fifth-straight season, the CBO's Nuka Cup Tournament is set to begin later this month. Originally known as the Battle Tournament, the Nuka Cup Tournament was officially named in 2300.

This year, the tournament will again follow its model with the top four teams from 2303 playoffs--the Roxbury Rad Sox, Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, University Point Deathclaws, and Concord Radstags--hosting the tournaments with an even split of three North Charles Association and three South Charles Association teams playing at each host site.

The tournament will run from February 29 until March 25 with a final team emerging from a three-game set in the end. One team from each host site will emerge in the semifinals and then a finals round winner-take-all with the victors of the Roxbury-Concord winners taking on the Fort-Hagen-University Point winners.

The 6-team portion is a double elimination round with the team winning the final series winning the host site. The semifinals and finals will again be played at the Great Green Jewel in Diamond City.

The following are the participants at each host site, listed by seed based on their 2303 records and finishes in their associations:

Roxbury: 1. Roxbury, 2. Nordhagen Beach, 3. FHE, 4. Starlight, 5. Quincy, 6. The Slog

Fort Hagen: 1. Fort Hagen, 2. Diamond City, 3. Sunshine Tidings, 4. Jamaica Plain, 5. Salem, 6. Spectacle Island

University Point: 1. University Point, 2. County Crossing, 3. Vault 81, 4. Easy Town, 5. Oberland, 6. Abernathy

Concord: 1. Concord, 2. Atom, 3. Lexington, 4. Goodneighbor, 5. Finch Farm, 6. Egret

The first three-game set from February 29 through March 2 will be the #3 vs #6 and #4 vs #5 seeds. The #1 and #2 seeds will play winners from that round on March 3-5. All three-game series are best of three with the winner winning two or three games to advance and all three games being played unless canceled by radstorm or other interference.

CBO 2304: What to Look For in the NCA

I would love to say being around baseball has made me an expert, but that would be a grand lie. In fact, every single play and series of plays is so different that Tinker Tom's Soul Crusher Machine could not calculate the infinite possibilities of happenings.

So, even the supercomputer that is PAM struggles with properly calculating the exact results of a single game, much less the irradiated waters of an incalculable number of variables leading to an eventual end score with a swath of possible outcomes ranging from 0-20 different win totals over the course of a 120-game schedule. Am I confusing you yet? Good!

The 2304 season seems to be a new variable in the finite possibilities, and I cannot explain why. Call it a hunch, or indigestion from my weekend splurge at Power Noodles, but I predict the 2304 season will be unpredictable.

Sure, sure, your powerhouses are still there, but let me look at how the top two of the always goods in the North Charles Association look vulnerable.

Fort Hagen, which was a win away from winning the Sole Survivor Series in 2303, may be on the downswing this season. They have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball, but Mike Cartrette (4-2, 2.45) has not been able to stay on the mound in the past two season, starting a total of 12 games in that stretch. Matt Hope (12-14, 4.67) is 35 years old and looks to be on the downturn with former starter Brent Hooker (8-9, 3.48) the only person who may be able to replace him. On offense, the team has seemed to be on a downward path, with star CF Ben Pawlak (.348/18/67) the only truly reliable option in the lineup.

Nordhagen Beach is on a similar path, especially after finishing second in the Brotherhood League in 2303. The Party Boys entered the playoffs as the 3rd seed convinced that they were good enough to win it all, but dropped their first series to the Concord Radstags. Unlike the Shroud, Nordhagen Beach still has some outstanding players with the talented Beachboy Nut (19-8, 3.03) and Ugio Church (11-8, 3.49) at the top of the rotation. They also have the best offensive outfield in LF Michael Fogcrawler (.273/32/93), CF Maxx Murtagh (.265/37/84), and RF Jonathan Angelou (.313/46/126). Call me crazy, but I still expect the Boys to be closer to missing the playoffs than winning the NCA. Or maybe I am just trying to stir up controversy in my story.

If Fort Hagen and Nordhagen Beach are falling off, then who is replacing them? Well, outside County Crossing and Concord who both already did in 2303. I don't know.

Easy Town looks to be a few developed players away but does have some good offensive core players, especially 1B/SP Lannie Tykeson (.326/34/93) who finished third in the Nuka Hitter Award voting and racked up a few other awards, including being the NCA's best hitter at both the 1B and SP spots.

Starlight is much better than their 57-63 record indicated. They are solid on the mound, especially with the emergence of Alex Alexson (15-6, 3.50). The Lady Killers also have two stars in 1B Zeldolph Violet (.310/35/110) and SS Nick Maris (.281/10/48). The Killers had four players all hit 20+ home runs, giving them a good shot to outscore anyone.

Later we will analyze the SCA which has eight teams all worthy of a playoff spot. For now, looking at the NCA, we are expecting things to get shaken up in 2304.

If our favorites are to fall by the wayside, I might be willing to bury the hatchet with the Bloodbugs name and let them carry the torch. A shame Fort Hagan never made it. Of course... we all famously know predictions are always accurate

For the record, Nat is throwing some interest out there so that teams like Lexington and Salem can say, "Yeah, we got a shot!"

However, based on current minor league rankings, you can see where the future may lie:

Both the Shroud and Boys are at or near the bottom, while The Slog, Salem, Finch Farm, and Abernathy look to have a solid group for the future.

Wow, that's an interesting screen I didn't even know existed (this game continues to surprise me). I should use it more often, maybe it'll help because I'm absolutely terrible at minor league management.

I always find different screens and wonder why I cannot remember to use them in my dynasty. This one is part of the League Reports that I refer to often. This one is Top Systems.

Fort Hagen Season: Year of the Mechanist

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud owner Isabel Cruz has reprieved her role in the Hubris Comics Universe (HCU) with the release of Season 1 of The Mechanist: The Rust Devils. As part of her redemption story from villain to superhero in the HCU, the Mechanist begins her quest to help eliminate a raider group known as the Rust Devils that use robots to do their evil bidding.

While the series has been broadcast in weekly episodes since mid-November, ending with the season finale last month, Cruz will continue the momentum by holding weekly events during home series at Hubris Comics Park in conjunction with Kent Connolly, owner of the HCU and Hubris Comics. These events will include exclusive appearances by some of the HCU's Unstoppables, regular appearances by Cruz as The Mechanist, and various events for both kids and adults to have interactive HCU experiences inside and outside the stadium.

The first season of The Mechanist marks the 12th iteration of the HCU, following the first 11.The Mechanist first appeared in the 7th iteration when she was the main villain of the first full season featuring the Silver Shroud, Fort Hagen's baseball team's namesake. In that season, the Mechanist was the main villain but was convinced by the Silver Shroud and the Mistress of Mystery to change her ways because of misunderstandings and work to protect the people of the Commonwealth.

In the Mechanist's first season as a hero, she first takes on the Rust Devils, though she does not appear to reach their leader. The six episodes of the season are titled and described below:

Episode 1: "Logical Fallacy"
The Mechanist, once a feared antagonist, undergoes a transformation and dedicates herself to using her technological prowess for good. She sets out to confront the Rust Devils, a ruthless gang of raiders known for their mastery of robot technology. The Mechanist seeks to dismantle their operations and put an end to their reign of terror.

Episode 2: "Raiders with Robots"
The Rust Devils deploy their deadly arsenal of robotic creations against the Wasteland's inhabitants. The Mechanist must navigate through a series of dangerous encounters with the raiders' robotic forces, using her own ingenuity and combat skills to thwart their sinister plans.

Episode 3: "The Satellite"
The Mechanist learns of the Rust Devils' secret plot involving a military satellite in orbit. She races against time to intercept and gain control of the satellite before it can be used for destructive purposes. The battle for control of the satellite becomes a high-stakes game of strategy and wits.

Episode 4: "Underground Tunnel"
The Mechanist uncovers the Rust Devils' underground lair, a complex network of tunnels where they store their stolen technology. As she delves deeper into their hideout, she faces off against dangerous traps and advanced security systems, all designed to protect the raiders' ill-gotten gains.

Episode 5: "Defending the Lair"
With the help of her reprogrammed robots and newfound allies, the Mechanist launches a daring assault on the Rust Devils' lair. The raiders, backed by their formidable robotic army, put up a fierce defense, resulting in an intense and thrilling battle that will determine the fate of the Wasteland.

Episode 6: "Good Intentions Pave the Road to Hell"
In the season finale, the Mechanist confronts the leader of the Rust Devils, Ivey, a figure from her past with whom she shares a complicated history. As the truth behind the Mechanist's transformation is revealed, she must grapple with her past mistakes and the consequences of her actions. The showdown will test her resolve and determination to bring true justice to the Wasteland. But was Ivey THE leader? Evidence says no as the Mechanist discovers a terminal note about "the seventh king of Israel." She vows to find out more from a robotic friend.

I still haven't gotten around to Nuka World (and it'll probably definitely be a long, long time now with my new computer having opened up many new games), but I did do the DLC with the Mechanist, and that was top notch, I must say again.

CBO 2304: What to Look For in the SCA

There are high teams and low teams and very few in between when it comes to the outlook for the 2304 South Charles Association season in the CBO.

Looking for a top-down perspective of the 2303 season and what seems to await the results in 2304, there appears to be very little that may change. As of today, Roxbury, University Point, and Atom look to be the class of the association, while Diamond City, FHE, Vault 81, and Jamaica Plain are all loaded enough to make a run.

On the opposite side of the expected bottom half, only Oberland appears to have an arrow pointing up, while Goodneighbor, Quincy, Egret, and Spectacle Island appear to be stuck in mediocrity at best in the next couple seasons.

With that stated, let's take quick look at the T-51s and how they could make a jump at least back to .500 or above in 2304 and then how they may be a contender in 2306 and later depending on how they manage their minor league rosters.

First, the T-51s were among the worst offensive teams in baseball in 2303, but they started showing progress late in the season. Leadoff CF Sharkey Lurkfodder (.295/10/29/14 SB) started to become a gem at the top of the lineup after a slow start. Others who caught fire included SS Lernz Tentsleep (.260/17/60) and 3B Mike Gadzinski (.267/16/45). The T-51s also have one of the best defensive catchers in Racky Westheim (.268/4/40), but he will need to improve his bat. Other positions--1B, 2B, LF, and RF--will need to show some leaps in production to truly make Oberland competitive, but we'll call them the 8th-best SCA team for now.

On the mound, Oberland was in the middle, with some decent expectations from their young rotation. Ronnie Messenger (6-8, 3.18) and Jaa Thirtysix (5-6, 3.92) are up and coming. Ben Rodgers (7-10, 4.40) and Odd Thomas Koontz (1-2, 3.63) could also help keep the runs down. What is not looking good overall is the bullpen where the pen will need to keep late-inning rallies down in 2304. Gary Stallworth (0 SV, 4.92) may be taking the closer spot from Old Buck Buchanan (26 SV, 5.62) in 2304, but RP Charred Lee Widemore (2-2, 4.01) is probably the most talented pitcher in the bullpen. Oberland may also consider bringing up 2301 7th-round pick Mike Suerth from Lynn of the GBRL after his 12-6, 2.37 mark in 19 starts in 2302. He is expected to begin as a reliever in the CBO and eventually work his way up to starter.

When you look at the T-51s minors, they are definitively the best in the South. A few veterans could contribute at the CBO level should Oberland suffer injuries throughout the season, though none of those include a starting pitcher. Devon Museum (6-2, 5.06) is expected to begin the season with the BMU's Union Hope Lifegivers but could move into the bullpen if needed. Veteran position players, 1B Jeremy Bugs (.223/0/9), 2B Paul Trader (.244/2/5 with Union Hope), LF Bryan Benton (.209/1/2 with Union Hope), and RF Cram Garge (.174/6/9) could all play a role on the team.

Looking at the Lynn Fortune Finders of the GBRL, this team has talent galore that they could trade to move up the standings but are probably in need to develop and move up naturally like Roxbury did. Still, the T-51s organization will need to find pitchers. SP Kyle Hein and SP Shaak Ti (currently recovering from an injury) are the best two prospects. The true talent, though, lies in the position players. That starts with 2303 1st overall pick, SS Stormin Normin MacDonald (.293/14/42 with Lynn) who is expected to be a star in the CBO. Though he is not expected to get the call up in 2304, we would not be surprised for him to be the starting SS in 2305. Another intriguing prospect is CF Grandson Quarles, acquired in a 2303 midseason trade with FHE that landed the Yao Guai SP Tristan Marble. Quarles was not drafted out of South Beach after coming out early but hit .340/20/69 his sophomore season. Quarles may find himself in Union Hope sooner than later. The third potential future star in the CBO is LF Zaire Inquisitor, drafted 5th overall in the 2303 Rookie Draft out of the CCYL's Nauset Beach. Inquisitor, a two-way player for the Lurk Hunters, was 11-5 with a 2.08 ERA in 19 career starts and batted .245/16/38 in the lineup. While his numbers do not pop out, they are pretty amazing since it has been fewer than two years since he learned to play baseball. Scout Wild Will Edwards raved about Inquisitor's potential, something that the T-51s need to turn into production.

OK, so I concentrated on the SCA's probable 8th-best team in this article, but there is some excitement returning to Oberland, and we can see why. It may be well worth the effort for T-51s fans to make their way to Lynn for a few games in 2304 to see what's brewing with their GBRL team.

In other news: Teams are still practicing in anticipation of the Nuka Cup Tournament starting later this month. In the meantime, some teams have made moves in February that they hope will improve their teams now.

The FHE Yao Guai traded away several prospects to Abernathy to secure the rights to former Adamantium star, RF Donny Kowalski (.268/24/72). The two-time All Star had expressed displeasure in the state of the team, which is in a total rebuild, and wanted to play for a contender.

One interesting trade happened between Finch Farm and Egret. The Four Leafs sent 1B Joe Mahaney (.241/19/52) to the Ninjas after he became expendable when they acquired 1B Wil Ashfire. In exchange for Mahaney and SP Jack Fitzgerald (9-10, 4.20), the Leafs received 2B Boo Mortoka (.249/4/29), SP Aaron Burton (7-12, 4.49), and minor league 1B Anyday Stevenski, a 2302 2nd-round pick.

Egret was involved in another trade with Atom. The Ninjas sent 1B Casey Roux (.271/19/59) to the Cats for RP Brahmin Lover Beardman (2-1, 4.47), expected to start in Egret, and minor leaguer LF McCrew Gillens, a 2302 2nd-round pick.

Settlements Today

I believe I am close to being done with these, especially since I have to move more and more away from game images and rely a lot on historical images instead. By my count, there are only about 10 places I have yet to feature in the main Commonwealth area. Anyway, here's the next chapter in Settlements Today.

Today in the CBO

Settlements Today

by Nat Wright-Kowalski

12 February 2304

Lynn: Pickled Paradise

Lynn, a small but vibrant settlement, nestled along the picturesque Atlantic Coast with its pristine beaches, offers a mesmerizing blend of history and culinary delights for those seeking an immersive experience. As I venture into this charming oceanside settlement for my next travel escapade, the allure of Lynn's past and the tantalizing flavors of its unique dishes await.

Lynn 1881

History breathes through every broken, weathered cobblestone of Lynn's streets, as it traces its origins nearly 600 years back when settlers from nearby Salem sought greener pastures and bargained with the local Indian chiefs for the land known as Saugus. In 1630, the area was incorporated as the Town of Saugus, but in 1637, a momentous event occurred when the new settlers, filled with excitement, renamed the community as Lynn in honor of the esteemed minister, Samuel Whiting.

Lynn 2020

Throughout the centuries, Lynn evolved from an agricultural community to a thriving shoe center, earning the moniker "City of Firsts" with a series of pioneering achievements. From the establishment of the first tannery in the US in 1629 to the production of the first electric trolley in Massachusetts in 1888, Lynn's contributions to innovation have left an indelible mark on history.

Lynn 2288

As I immerse myself in the historical richness, I find solace in Lynn's present as well. The Lynn Fortune Finders, a proud team in the Greater Boston Rookie League, adds to the city's athletic prowess, delighting baseball enthusiasts with their tenacity and talent as one of three champions in the league's history and the only team to return to the playoffs more than once. Currently affiliated with the CBO's Oberland T-51s, the Fortune Finders' passion for the game echoes the city's indomitable spirit, and they will be the league's favorites to win it all in 2304.

But it's not just baseball that captures my attention. The aroma of delicious dishes fills the air, enticing me to try local favorites. Among these, Longneck Lukowski's Cannery stands as a culinary gem, offering delectable seafood treats that transport me to a bygone era. Everything alive in the sea finds its way into Longneck Lukowski’s, from mirelurk eggs to a variety of fish species emerging from the once inhospitable shores. One delicacy that I tried in Lynn and nowhere else was pickled ghoul whale. Delicious!

Longneck Lukowski's Cannery

As I indulge in these exquisite dishes, the echoes of Lynn's past resound in every bite. The city's past iron works, leather tanning industry, and shoe factories have contributed to its urban landscape, creating a captivating tapestry of history and culture. Researching about Lynn's beautiful shore estates, a testament to its past as a fashionable Boston resort area, fills my heart with nostalgia for a time long gone. The Lynn Shore Drive, with its picturesque view of the shore, inspired the development of high-rises, adding a modern charm to the city's skyline that I could see rising again in the future. In the here and now, another must-visit spot is Lucky Bucky's Terminal Emporium, renowned for its terminal production and repair services, making it a valuable asset in the Commonwealth.

In Lynn, the rich tapestry of history is interwoven with the vibrant tapestry of flavors, creating an experience like no other. From the echoes of the past to the savory dishes, Lynn beckons travelers to savor its unique blend of heritage and culinary wonders. As I bid farewell to Lynn, I carry with me the memories of its storied past and the delightful tastes that linger on my palate, leaving me with a longing to return to this enchanting settlement soon.

You know, even after the Great War, seafood has gotta be good... or at least better than the seafood I have right now living in the middle of the landmass.

It's delicious, with a slight side effect of hair loss and ghoulification!

It's a good choice, The Witcher was on my shortlist of games to test out this new PC. Top tier universe.
