Ernest Gatewood spent most of his time in the Negro Leagues as a catcher, but played a little first base as well. His time span was 1914 through 1927. This Roy Williams (no known middle name) was a third baseman and outfielder who played from 1952 through 1955 with the Chicago American Giants and Birmingham Black Barons. In 1952, he won the Negro American League batting championship with a .347 average for the Chicago American Giants.
