Orioles 20 x 4 in 1971
Super 70s Sports just posted this epic photo on Twitter of the Orioles' four 20-game winners in 1971, resplendent in their all-burnt orange.

Not sure where we're at with Brace images that are being sold via eBay, but seller hsorbus2014 (a new one for me) has several autographed 4x6es for sale. I'm no expert, but they look Brace to me. There are some I've seen before, but there are a few of players we don't see much that I hadn't...so here they be (subject to deletion if I'm stepping over any legal lines). Buddy Booker, Gary Christenson and Jim Kennedy.
Even though Merkle just gave us a nice Dexter of Booker, I like this night shot of him. The ones I've seen before include Steve Barber (of the Twins--not the Barber of the Orioles and Pilots), Tom Norton (also Twins), Van Kelly (Padres) and Steve Ratzer (Mets prospect), to name a few. |

1891 Jim Long
Long played for the 1891 Louisville Colonels and the 1893 Baltimore Orioles, but had a much longer career in the minor leagues. Someone posted this rather nice cabinet card of him on the Net54 forums when he was playing for the 1895 Milwaukee team.

The Orsino is from an earlier Hyee Auction. The French is one of Merkle's Dexters (the basic lightbox setup). He posted it not long ago, but I can't find it in a site search for some reason, so I'm just posting it again.

Jeff Sellers: one and done
Issued in Tuesday's Vault offerings are a pair of photos picturing Jeff Sellers with the Reds. He was certainly in their plans when he attended training camp with them in 1989, but he made only one start for Class AAA Nashville when he was diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff that caused him to missed the next two seasons.
In 1991, when he was finally able to pitch again, he'd been released by the Reds and signed with the Yankees. But he was only able to make six appearances in the minors that season. Sellers entire major league career (1985-88) wound up being with his original team, the Red Sox. Last edited by Rainmaker; 02-14-2017 at 06:22 PM. |

J.C. Martin 1959
Surprisingly few images of the two-year Met and unexpected hero of Game 4 of the 1969 World Series (which I got to view from the mezzanine in far left field - a perfect view).
It's unanimous, I think: all his Mets' photos show him in the catching crouch. The clear one is from Dexter, 1968, and the other from the '69 collection. Last edited by Merkle923; 08-04-2017 at 01:59 AM. |
