John Werhas 1964
If you thought Selma was a little out-of-frame...
Werhas has a rather odd Southern California distinction. He played for the Dodgers, Angels, USC, and (in the pre-season only) the Anaheim Amigos of the first-season 1967-68 American Basketball Association. Last edited by Merkle923; 08-04-2017 at 01:57 AM. |

Regarding 1977
If you're waiting for color on Bob Johnson/Braves, Mike Caldwell/Reds, Jeff Leonard/Dodgers, Willie Crawford/Astros, my advice is - not this lifetime, not the next one, maybe two from now. The first three are all posted here in B&W and there's no evidence they were grabbed in color even by Brace, McWilliams or Topps.

2017 Photo Day!
I honestly wasn't expecting Photo Day for a few more days, but I checked on a whim anyway and it turns out most of the teams are up already. No Mets yet (sad emoji). Keep in mind that, if a team has a small number of images, zimbio may add more later. Or...they may not. Overall, though, looks like a large class this year (Pirates have 371 images, for crap sake...how many NRIs do they have?). In the following list, by division, the number of images is included in the parenthsese and the links should take you to image one of that album. And it goes without saying that I could possibly have made a mistake or two along the way. Attached, random images--Jon Niese with the Yankees and Howie Kendrick with the Phils (yeah, I've got a northeastern bias). I'll update when the other teams show up.
Atlanta Braves (135) Miami Marlins (233) New York Mets (61) Philadelphia Phillies (162) Washington Nationals (108) Chicago Cubs (120) Cincinnati Reds (237) Milwaukee Brewers (120) Pittsburgh Pirates (371) St. Louis Cardinals (130) Arizona Diamondbacks (179) Colorado Rockies (211) Los Angeles Dodgers (87) San Diego Padres (270) San Francisco Giants (273) Baltimore Orioles (119) Boston Red Sox (147) New York Yankees (116) Tampa Bay Rays (180) Toronto Blue Jays (86) Chicago White Sox (156) Cleveland Indians (75) Detroit Tigers (51) Kansas City Royals (57) Minnesota Twins (132) Houston Astros (159) Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (186) Oakland A's (126) Seattle Mariners (189) Texas Rangers (157) P.S. -- Worth noting that Getty also has Photo Day images (and many more of them), but I don't usually pay too much attention to those (at this point) because of the watermark. Just sayin'. Last edited by FatJack; 02-26-2017 at 08:24 PM. |

John D'Acquisto -- Oakland
Not sure if this is a need for anyone (he wasn't with Oakland for long). This image is from a current eBay listing from autographsink.

2017 Photo Day! (deux)
PPS -- I especially enjoy the Photo Day photos that are done by local newspapers, etc. These, you have to search for (lil bit). They tend to get a little more creative. Now, having said that, this one isn't from a local paper. It's a USA Today shot (taken by Allan Henry) that was included in a blog piece featuring "the best" Photo Day photos of the Royals. Lorenzo Cain drops the mic.

Harry W. MacPherson July 10, 1926 - February 19, 2017
RIP Harry was born in North Andover, Massachusetts. At the age of 17, he was one of the youngest players to be recruited to the National Baseball League. A right-handed pitcher for the Boston Braves (1944), Harry also played in the minor league for several teams, including Atlanta, Denver, Dallas and others, through 1952 - See more at: Harry MacPherson Obituary - Englewood, FL | Herald TribuneHarry MacPherson Obituary - Englewood, FL | Herald Tribune

Dick Young
The youngest player in Wikipedia's 100 oldest living major league players list is now Dick Young, at #100, a second baseman with the Philadelphia Phillies in the early 1950s, who is now about 88 years , 9 months of age. Young played pro ball for 13 years from 1948 to 1960, but only appeared in 20 major league games via September call-ups with the Phillies in 1951 and 1952. He is a lifelong Washington state resident.
There is a supplemental list of players that goes from #101 to as high as #126 - (It's variable). Currently the youngest player listed there is long-time Giants and Twins reliever, Al Worthington at #123. (88 years and just less than one month). It has become the custom in recent years of Wikipedia adding players to the list on their 88th birthday. Notable Players currently in the #101 to #123 range include Worthington, Don Mossi, Billy Hunter and Hall Of Famer, Whitey Ford. Notable Players who could be added to he list soon with their 88th birthdays coming up this Spring include all-stars Curt Simmons (MLB: 1947-1967) and Frank Thomas (MLB: 1951-1966). There are currently 3 living players who have reached their 98th birthday, with oldest living major leaguer and Hall Of Fame second baseman, Bobby Doerr due to turn 99 in five weeks (April 7). There's also 14 living former major leaguers who have reached their 95th birthday, 75 living MLB players who have reached their 90th birthday, and 98 living MLB players who have reached their 89th birthday. Johnny Podres 1953
A couple of Dexters to clear out of my yet-to-be-uploaded file.
Tough to find in color from his year or so with the Tigers; indeed this image used on the '67 Dexter card is one of only two I know of (there's also a Brace). Last edited by Merkle923; 08-04-2017 at 01:58 AM. |

Woody Fryman 1966
We all know Fryman during his cameos with the '77 Reds and '78 Cubs is a tough color find, but it seems like there are very few of these, too: shots of him in the old school Phillies' pinstripes of 1968-69. This is a Dexter image shot for a set they never produced, which is really too bad, because as good as the '67 photography is, the '68 shots are art.

And good luck finding another one of these.
I have no doubt George Brace shot the long time A.L. infielder when he had the misfortune of being dealt from the eventual Series-winning Orioles to the White Sox early in '66, and then again the first two months of '67 before having the good fortune of being traded to the eventual pennant-winning Red Sox - but I've never seen one.
