Though have to admit that Wade Boggs isn't quite living up to his card yet.
He's got a slash-line of .083/.267/.083 for a 0 OPS+. Only 3 games in though so not worried, that's baseball baby.

Iron OL, Standings, WC Race
The Mets are still on top with both Redmond clubs on their tail. Northborough has 13 OL games in August so could make a move.

Sad Hill Grabs Tops Spot
The Hunters reached first in S285, but the Auckland Athletics were on fire, going 16-5 to streak up the standings.

Diamond league update:
Palolo takes advantage of their red hot play to move up in the standings, but somehow Waffletown still maintains a razor thin lead in the OL standings. For the overall picture.... in the AC East, Transylvania and Green Lake have both pushed past the former division leader to take over the 1 and 2 spots; with the Impalers sitting atop the division at 64-44; and Green Lake holding down the top wild card spot at 59-47. Roncalli is currently on a 5 game winning streak and hopes to build off that to have a solid second half of the season. In the AC Central, Seattle has pulled into a tie for the division lead with St Kitts; and hopes to put together a nice string of wins to put a little cushion between themselves and the rest of the division. In the NC East, Southern is currently on a 7 game win streak and has padded their division lead to a comfortable 11.5 games. In the NC Central, Palolo is proving once again that those cute and cuddly puppies are, in reality, vicious and remorseless junkyard dogs. They went on a hot streak as the heat of summer arrived (rattling off a 16 game win streak that straddled June-July); while division and OL rival Waffletown became mired in a molasses of mediocrity and have fallen 11.5 games off the lead. |

Help with AH Search String
In looking for players, I'm using 188|189|190|191|192 and then wond|rook|all-|recor|hero|peak, to find those guys Cy Young will approve of. Is there anything I'm missing? I wish the AI would stop pulling Young in the 9th. He's lost four shutouts already, and the PP for a shared shutout is only 20.I fear that the changeover will be a slog, as I try to stay middle of the pack with a meager 9K budget. My plan is to slowly(very slowly, it seems) begin adding in pre-1930 players next season to try to remain as competitive as possible. Of course I could sell Young, but that would defeat the purpose. I'm gonna keep as many of the current Mundys as I can in reserve, in case this does not prove to be as much fun as I hope.

Standings and Crowns Alert
My son and his fiance have rented a park for their wedding, so the set-up and clean-up will be more hands on than is usual. Work begins in earnest today, so I don't know how much, if any, OL time I'll have through the rest of the weekend. With that in mind, crowning could be delayed.
Also, it would help if the playoff results screen shots could be posted, although OOTP has been getting up the playoff results much more quickly lately. Need standings for P404 at some point. If you want to send me stats to compile, use kidheckett@gmail.com. I'll get to them when I can. If you win an OL crown, and I don't have your logo yet, you will get what I cobble together, so post it or e-mail it. At some point, I will get around to making a list of what I have. If you think you've already sent it, I probably have it. If you've won a crown in the past, I do, or you were okay with what I posted. Good luck to all the rest of the way, and thanks. |

the only group you won't see with the year search is the all-time peak cards (for whatever reason, the year search doesn't pick them up even though they have a year attached to them for player age reasons), but that group is typically small enough that you can just query the entire bunch and scroll through to spot any players who fit the mold (and most of those are out of my price range anyway, so it's a quick browse) I also took the spreadsheet of available cards, sorted it by year and made my own list of pre-ww2 pitchers and batters (and then sorted the batters by position), to make it easier to review their stats and plan out which ones I want to try and save for/pick up.... just a FYI... if you limit your team to players from 1929 and earlier, there are only 118 cards in the game in that range (from the original list... there have been some new additions since, but that might bump it to 125-30 or so).... 40 of those are pitchers, 3 catchers, 10 1B, 9 2B, 6 3B, 11 SS, 11 LF, 11 CF, and 17 RF.... if you extend to 1939, that improves the pool to 240.... 1949 gives you 360 total, or like my pre-ww2 group from 1945 and earlier, I have 296 cards on the original list to choose from) edit: and just my own 2 cents on the old timey theme.... if you're just starting and ok with picking up everyone/anyone regardless of rating, you can usually build your team pretty quickly (assuming the low rated players aren't ridiculously priced as some seem to be)... but once you establish your squad and work on improvements/high rated players, the new additions will come slow as historical players (especially gold/diamond level) can start to get pricey.... so this theme is definitely one of extreme patience, as it takes me multiple seasons now to accumulate enough points to even hope to afford a single upgrade.... add to that the fact the pool of choices is very limited, and you might end up with a lot of points to spend, but no one to spend them on as they aren't being offered in the AH.... but that's part of the fun

Enjoy your life, man. No need to worry about OL over the weekend. Delayed crowning isn't that big of a deal IMO. |

Nice Koufax addition. The kids have been hoping to make a Koufax/Gooden combo (opener/follower) for a while. One of their strategies was to go for High Stuff but the points and players have not gone that direction yet. Kiddo can’t complain though. His 98 Spahn and Perfect Gibson have been fairly good. If you end up with another great addition, try Blackwell as a closer (take a look at his card on the Woodinville team). I guess this is the beauty of the game....plenty of improvements to make and plenty of different strategies to try. It is very cool to see that you stuck to some of the players that fell into your hands and kept them (Gooden, ....). Kiddo is hoping to face the whale in the playoffs and get lucky. He knows he can steal a game on the road and also win at home. Thanks for pulling them in. They are not OL but started out with limited funds and just one team has had some luck pulling a few good cards. But for the most part, the hitting looks not so different from most of the other teams in the league (Diamond Griffey or Lower Diamond Edgar don’t scream whale). Better also watch out in the playoffs for the Warriors...he is hoping to steal one from you after having a lucky series at the start of the season.

I'd like to join this league with a FTP team that meets the restrictions shown in the first post of this thread. What all do I need to do?
OOTP account name is BlackSwan, team name is Washingtooon Senators. Currently in gold league. |

Kushiel,
Just as I finished my message...he shows me his schedule. He is clearly ready for you...just not anyone else. Horrible month but he managed to win at your park......

He has been a tough series for me all year. I have some strong respect for him in a playoff matchup. I will have to pay close attention every game if we meet after he wins the wildcard. I looked at his Blackwell closer and thought about him as a closer but I have the Perfect Eckersley that I drew the first day. He has been almost automatic for me all these seasons if I have the lead. Since I looked at his roster again earlier this week I have been thinking about moving Blackwell to set up and bringing Gooden back into my rotation. The Doc has been a point machine for me with shutouts and strikeouts since the beginning. Some days he is just a little wild. I got $100 worth of points the first day and bought 175 packs. I was rewarded in those packs with Gooden and Eckersley. They were my only 2 Perfects forever..

I drew Blackwell as my first great card but moved on in favor of Eckersley and Rivera.
But for some reason I was never able to get the same reliable performance from him in the setup role so I sold him. I regret that move. I would totally put my old card back to closer with some of the perfect cards getting the game to the 9th inning. The last time I had a first season to last season was with Eddie Collins in PT19. I just could not move on from him. He defined the Base Stealers team.

Nice. We just went to the Falls the other day for breakfast and then enjoyed the festivities in Fall City (annual morning event). We are in Redmond/Woodinville/ and Renton (homes/school/...). I would not be surprised if 15-20% of the user base is from Washington state. Would love to see someone create a user home base map.
