My MLB TV rewatch for some odd reason started at the end of the second inning and there was no way to go back further from there.

Also, those ****** Connect uniforms are SO FUGLY that I clipped a few screenshots and sent them to my best (only?) friend who could not comprehend just HOW FUGLY they are. I first clipped Lindor and then Senger, who were just happening to be on screen at any time, and then noticed that the New York-Presbyterian patch and the Mets and 7 patches are flipped between the sleeves on their uniforms. Turns out, the ad patch is facing the CF camera for all batters, but Canning had the Mets and 7 patches on the CF-facing sleeve.

Sneaky. I hope we get a good rebate for all the surgeries for that. Maybe we can get something for referring George Springer there. That looked gnarly / like a knee / like it was gonna hurt for a while.

Kudos to Winker for two triples and more or less scratching the game out of the L column when nobody else could be arsed to.

And Lindor finally did something this year, walkoff sac fly, 3-2, ballgame!

Have I crapped on the ****** Connect uniforms yet?

Add Peterson to the pile of corpses.

Boom-Boom with a new approach to blowing a save - just hit enough batters (Alan Roden, Bo Bichette) to give Little Vlad fodder for a huge homer. Except that Guerrero jr. grounded out to short and the game ended with the Mets hanging on, 2-1.

Sweep complete, although the offense is like glue. My grandmother (94, and barely legal on her 20 pills a day) could get three outs from Vientos, Baty, and Siri.....

So, I'm still dealing with the downloaded game from Saturday (because I slacked), but…

MAGENTA undershirts (and cap buttons and Nike swooshes) on the Chitty Connect uniforms?? Are you chitting me??? As horrible as the "19th Century Prison Keepers" duds were last season, at least the grey-and-black worked together aesthetically and didn't subvert the team image. Since when do the Mets wear magenta????

ETA: Actually, perhaps more raspberry than magenta. But stlll.

Pete has not gone back to "Working Man" as his walk-up music. (You'll recall that he switched "American Pie" for the playoffs.) Instead he's trying out "Layla", which isn't bad.

TBH, I still kind of miss "The Ocean", but that's just my not liking change, I suppose. (We need McNeil to get heathy, so I can find out if he's still using "Rock of Ages".)

Mets game today has been moved up to 4pm ET / 10pm my time.

Great, I'm already sleep deprived, why not kick it into fourth gear!?

I was joking about it in the Tigers thread, but the same air mass seems to be over New York. It's windy, and the low tonight is predicted to be 28 F.

I saw this after I asked. Sub zero (celsius) temperatures and winds up to 70 kph

Fell asleep while watching last night, missed most of the game, rewatched all the half-innings with runs at least to have a perfectly dangerous half-baked opinion on everything, waffled here for several paragraphs, and then the stupid forum software cooked itself again and ate the whole damn post.

Gee thx.

Bottom line: Pete is awesome, Vientos is absolutely woeful (much like Baty), and maybe I can stay up through a 1pm ET game today before old age gets me for good.

The bottom of the lineup (4 - 9) does seem rather limp.

Mountains may crumble, and rivers may run dry, but Boom-Boom Diaz will never be worth the oxygen consumed just to mention him by name.

Never mind that the team was 2-hit by some rather fringey pitching. That's one way to kill a 6-game winning streak.

Like I mentioned before, when I said I had seen enough of Brett Baty at third base, it should not have been misconstrued as a request to see Brett Baty at second base. I'd whisk him off the roster at this point; at least he got a nice car out of what qualifies as a career these days.

At last! Time to celebrate OPENING DAY!!!

(Not this season, obviously.)

This is the 40th Anniversary of the 1985 Mets, the first team to truly be a contender since 1969. (1973 was fun, but it required the entire division to freeze in place in September so we could move past them, which was hardly replicable, moving forward.) But with Keith Hernandez and Darryl Strawberry, and Ron Darling hopefully not being undercut by the lack of support that dropped him from 10-3 to 12-9 over the 2nd half of 1984 and Dwight Gooden possibly looking more like the 8-1 pitcher who closed the season that the kid who struggled to 9-8 before that, New York could dream!

And, more importantly, get book deals. This was the year that spawned diaries by both Keith (If at First, with Mike Bryan) and manager Davey Johnson (Bats, because Peter Golenbock had already used "Balls" for Graig Nettles's book two years before)

So here we go, April 9th. I'd forgotten the Mets start the season without Ray Knight, who had surgery to deal with bone chips in his elbow. (Davey was pissed this wasn't taken care of when Ray had his shoulder cleaned out over the winter.) For games where we have the video, I won't spoil it over much, except to say that Keith agrees with the fans that Davey was silly to try and get through the game using only two pitchers. And everybody was happy for the players who got to be heroes, for similar reasons.

Mets v St. Louis, WOR broadcast

MLB TV this year is working just as well as Boom-Boom Diaz. I again was treated to the archives tossing me straight into the bottom 2nd, with the Mets already up 2-0. I wonder how they managed something that worked perfectly well for years and years so badly.

Speaking of "so badly", Boom-Boom tried his royal best to blow a 3-run lead in the ninth, but got only two thirds of the way there. Useless!

Not useless at all would be Big Pete (.378, 4 HR, 18 RBI), leading the NL in two triple crown categories, and missing the one you might think of first with regards to his talents.

But with the solo homer off Jose Leclerc in the eighth he's now made it onto that Wikipedia list of career home run leaders, tying Rob Deer for 300th with 230 plonks.

It is doing this to me as well. Sometimes I am able to rewind it back, other time I am not.
Very annoying. They used to be a leader in this technology space, now the product barely works.

Viewing the encore from last night's game. This Sacramento stadium seems . . . cozy. The field itself is immaculate, beautiful. Capacity 10,624 (Fixed seats) / 14,014 (Total, including fixed seats, lawn and standing room). Can't find the attendance for the game (maybe the league is suppressing that data) but it looked like a decent crowd on hand.

The A's are a good fit here, much as they don't want to hear that. But then again, this reminds me of the ballpark where the Long Island Ducks play, and the A's are supposed to be a major league team; a major money maker.

But still, this is appealing. Baseball a little more like it should be, without the jumbotrons and mega-volume loudspeakers, to say nothing of an extra 25 or 30 thousand drunken and obnoxious fans? I wouldn't mind going to a ballgame at (looks up the name) Sutter Health Park.

To these admittedly non-Mets fan eyes, Diaz is looking shakier than he was last year, and that's saying something.

At least we will all have the joy () to keep watching him come unglued progressively worse for another three seasons, because why would he not pick up his two $18.5M player options for 2026-27 when he's pitching worse than replacement level?

Your old friend Wilmer Flores just hit a two-run home run against us.

Everybody loves Wilmer. If you don't love Wilmer, you can't be our friend!

By the way, this year it's ten years that Wilmer was NOT traded for Carlos Gomez.

Meanwhile, in Oak- ... Sac- ... Las- ... ah, ******* somewhere, Jose "50 Cents" Siri has blown his own leg off with a foul ball and is taken out for Tyrone Taylor (not: Travis Taijeron) in the second inning. That pile of bodies is growing ever higher, but Brett Baty will be on this team forever!

He just singled in two more runs! He's killing us. He's killing us, dead!

But, uh, I love him.
