The Hidden Hand
I know a few of you following along like the occasional glimpse of the various strings hanging down from the rafters in this puppet show, so I'll share a couple with you.
Here is the next five years of my (decidedly analog) depth chart for the franchise: ![]() The WAR figs are courtesy of BBRef. Those in orange are rough SELL markers for the player in question. Guidelines only, not gospel. I lock almost all of the players at their designated level and revisit a couple times each season. The FLOAT guys are as advertised, they go where the AI sends them. Here is my equally primitive finances tracker, with which I am trying to as closely replicate the historical as possible without unfairly constraining franchises. I reset this on the first day of each offseason, and then again on day one of the preseason. ![]() As you can see, it is pretty close to the IRL. Compromises had to be made for a few clubs, and the plan is to bring them into line in as orderly a manner as possible over ensuing seasons. the major difference is, of course, payrolls v the budget system OOTP uses. The former is an absolute figure, whereas the latter is nominal. Finding the sweet spot between the two is the best one can shoot for. This is all completely unnecessary, no doubt, and I certainly am not advocating it for others to follow. I am really only applying this much rigour in this save, and a similar amount in different ways in the Dodgers one. It has the beneficial corollary of really giving you a strong feeling for the league in ways one might not automatically seek out. Anyway, like I said just an FYI for those interested in my methodology. Happy to field questions. G Last edited by luckymann; 06-27-2026 at 12:05 AM. |
