Jess Brooks
Jess Brooks played for the Monarchs in 1937 and given MLB's reclassification of the NeL, that's a now major league season. Seamheads doesn't have a photo for him, but I found these sites that reference his career, and one had this photo. He was a local star in Tacoma, WA and there is good citation work for the photo if additional research needs to be done.
OOTP has his name as "Jesse Brooks" in error but the Minors ID works for him: brooks000jes Follow-up websites are: https://www.seamheads.com/NegroLgs/p...rID=brook01jes https://www.tacomasportsmuseum.com/o...essBrooks.html https://wertacoma.com/black-baseball-history-in-r-city/

Don Jefferson 1920
I'm just beginning my foray into a NGL Facepack so forgive me if I didn't go through this thread extensively. I didn't see Jefferson posted, nor do I see him on Seamheads so here he is, courtesy of the 4/19/1994 edition of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. They include a very nice summary of his life accomplishments.

I hadn't seen this player pictured either here or at Seamheads. This image comes from his obituary photo in the 9/25/1955 edition of The Indianapolis Star.

Joe Casey
Here's another find, thanks to the 4/5/1987 edition of The South Bend Tribune. Casey pitched very briefly in his recorded career but lived a very long life.

Didn't see any photos here of Eddie Klep, who I believe was the only white man to play in the Negro leagues.

Warren O'Neil
Just like his brother Buck, Warren O'Neil lived into his mid-90s, and accepted Buck's Presidential Medal of Freedom after Buck's death in 2006.

Interesting. Guess it would be more accurate to say Klep was the only known white player in what is now considered the Negro major leagues, unless MLB/Elias/SABR push back that 1948 end date. |
