I apologize if you already knew this but there are (at least) three players named Mike Grace at B-R and two of them played at least some 3B. One was a White Sox farm hand in the aughts. THIS Mike Grace was a Reds prospect in the 70s and even got into a few games with Cincinnati in 1978. Career major league batting average? ,000 The third Mike Grace was a Phillies pitcher in the 90s. If there are more, I am blissfully unaware of them at the moment.

The late Bob Lemke posted a few McCarthys of Reds' Grace back in 2013, and my recollection is that notice of same migrated here, as well, but I do find the site search doesn't work quite as well as it used to, for some reason (though, I confess, I did not endeavor a search for Mr. Grace, today).

Indeed: Greg Harts

Reminder: they can be posted once they're on eBay.

Small images of Harts, improved them as best I could with iPhoto.

Once again, more insight into the dimensions of what Topps had and still has. On the list of the first 100 images I went looking for a decade ago was Harts. There was no file. Where they had these stashed, I have no clue.

Maybe they fell between the drawers inside the bottom of the cabinet. Found a kid's birth certificate that way. Either way let's hope there's another 100 hard to find that make their way to the surface.

Do any of you have this image in better quality (larger version)? It was found on ebay several years ago. Thanks

Bad ID in Vault

Assuming nothing here ... the mysterious "Andy Harris" who has appeared in the Vault Friday releases is actually Andy HASSLER. Makes me think that someone at eBay might be dyslexic.

I believe they have misidentified people in the past, and I am doubtful about some of the dates given as well.

Yes to both. Just this past week, Tom Haller was initially ID'd as "Tom Hall" on four different images, even though the real Tom Hall was posted the same day. The dates are very hit and miss. Most folks here have a good enough handle on uniform changes and the like to be wary.

John Dobbs 1901

Dobbs played a season and a half with the Reds, and is pictured here on the 1902 team just before being traded to the Chicago Orphans.

Oscar Jones 1903

Jones cracked Brooklyn's starting rotation as a rookie and managed to win 19 games.

1904 Mystery Phillies Player

The 1904 Philadelphia Phillies team photo had IDs for every player except for this guy. Any guesses as to who this is?

TV made another name mistake on their listings...this is Jesus Hernaiz not Hernandez....Hernaiz pitched for 14 pro seasons (1967-83) but played in just 27 games as a big leaguer...all out of the Philly pen in 1974

Topps Purges Chief Wahoo

A post from the SABR Baseball Cards Committee Friday noted that the change became apparent with the 2017 releases, noting that Wahoo was present on 2016 issues.

Craig Calcaterra of NBC Sports writes this:

"Topps has dropped Chief Wahoo from Indians card designs. They’re doing it for the old Braves “screaming Indian” logo as well, though the Braves no longer use that themselves.

They’re not airbrushing these logos out of photos of players — that would be Orwellian even for my extreme Wahoo-hating tastes — but in card designs which have team logos, Topps is using the block-C logo, not Wahoo, and the Braves “A” logo in place of the old logo. This includes throwback issues like the Heritage sets which put modern players on card designs from the 1950s-1960s and on simple retro designs like their 1987 variations. Any cards which once featured Wahoo on the border or on the back now features the block-C."

I agree that the time came long ago that these logos relegated to history, but so far it hasn't evolvedv to tampering with the old photos that will be forthcoming from the Vault. Most recently, a 1963-era Cecil Butler was posted with the laughing Brave plastered on his sleeve. Hoping that revisionist history does not become part of the Topps legacy.

My guess is Bill Keister, left over from the 1903 Phils' squad. But it's strictly a guess. Keister was released by the Phils to Jersey City on Feb. 17, 1904, so the photo would have had to have been shot mighty early in the spring for him to have been the unidentified player.

The photo was taken by a Chicago Daily News photographer when the Phillies were in Chicago. Doyle and Van Buren are in the picture, and they were acquired from Brooklyn on April 30, 1904. Brackenridge (also spelled Breckenridge) is in the picture, and his release from the team was reported in The Sporting Life on June 11, 1904. The only visit of the Phillies to Chicago during that interval was May 11-15, 1904, when Keister was no longer with the team.

There are two pitchers who were with the team in mid-May who aren't identified as being in the group photo. One was Tom Barry (below, center), and the other was John McPherson (below, right). I think it's McPherson:
