The St. Louis Cardinals have placed outfielder Lawrence Butler on the 10-day injured list after he suffered a sprained finger during a 6-0 loss to the Cleveland Indians on June 6.
Butler, 31, is expected to miss up to two weeks.
In 54 games/50 starts this season, Butler has hit .255 with five home runs and 27 RBIs.
Coming up from AAA Memphis for his first time in the majors is 25-year-old outfielder Ezra Essex.
Signed to a minor-league contract in 2027, Essex has spent most of his career in the Cardinals' minor league system.
At AAA Memphis this season, Essex has hit .315 with eight home runs and 20 RBIs in 50 games.

The St. Louis Cardinals have placed left-handed pitcher Miguel Acosta on the 15-day injured list after he was diagnosed with a strained hamstring suffered while pitching in an 8-3 loss to the Cleveland Indians on June 4.
The 23-year-old Acosta is expected to miss up to five weeks.
In his brief time in the majors this season, Acosta had pitched made five relief appearances going 0-1 with a 12.00 ERA.
The Cardinals will call up 27-year-old left-hander Wande Torres from AAA Memphis.
Torres has pitched in 16 games this season between the Redbirds and AA Springfield.
In those games, he is 2-0 with a 7.97 ERA.
