Here is a photo of Johnny Mize with the Cincinnati Reds spring of 1935. St, Louis Cardinals sold his contract to the Reds 12/13/34. The Reds returned him to the Cardinals 04/15/35 due to a bad knee

He LOOKS like Andy Kosco to me, especially if you blow up the image. Here's a TV photo taken in spring of either 1973 or 1974. Why he'd be wearing #80 is beyond me, unless perhaps he was a NRI in 1974. Anyway, just a guess.

Marshall Brant was a first base prospect in the late 70s and early 80s, first with the Mets, then with the Yankees, and finally with the A's. He wasn't going to get anywhere on an early 80s Yankee team stuffed with first basemen (Watson, Spencer, Griffey, Balboni, Mayberry, Collins, and of course Mattingly), so he was glad to be traded to Oakland in 83 as part of the deal for Matt Keough. Oakland at least wasn't far from his home town. Here he is.

Reds media guide shows Kosco wore No. 23 from start of spring training. No NRI mentioined in the media guide wore a number that high. Just hunch that it might be Dave Revering, who played in AA that year.

I had tried to find a Reds spring roster, so kudos for being able to eliminate Kosco. If I squint I can see Revering....
