Photo Located Willis C. Wyman 1884 Kansas City Cowboys/Chicago Unions
I've located a photo of Willis Wyman, who played for the 1884 Kansas City Cowboys and Chicago Unions. His games were previously credited to Frank Wyman, but I recently was able to determine that Frank Wyman did not play the games and it was actually a Kansas area player named Willis Wyman who appeared. I've attached a passport photo I found of Willis Wyman on ancestry.

Photo Located Seth Sigsby 1893 New York Giants
I've located a photo of Seth Sigsby of the 1893 New York Giants. He came to the club from Union College in Schenectady. I've found two versions of the team photo, one from the 1893 Union College Yearbook and one from this antique store: http://www.antiquesportsshop.com/baseballphotos.html
I emailed the store and they provided me with a list of players pictured. Unhelpfully, the list of players in the photo is not sorted by row. I know it was customary for team photos of the era to have the team pitcher to be featured holding a baseball in the photo and for catchers to have their mitt and mask in view. I've included a roster list from the 1893 Yearbook, which confirms that Sigsby was the club's sole pitcher. I believe he is seated next to the club's catcher C.A. Sullivan in the bottom row at the far left. It's a bit speculative I will admit, but I think there is a reasonable case that it is Sigsby. |

Photo Located Harry East 1882 Baltimore Orioles
I've located a photo of Harry East, who played for the inaugural edition of the Baltimore Orioles in 1882. He later became a medical doctor and graduated from Barnes Medical College in St. Louis. Washington University archives had a photo of the 1897 graduating class and East was pictured. I've included the photo and list of names to confirm he is pictured.

Photo Located John W. Bates 1889 Kansas City Cowboys
Thanks to cinemaodyssey, I was able to locate a photo of John W. Bates, who pitched for the 1889 Kansas City Cowboys.
He is pictured in a team photo of the 1888 South Bend club. The photo appeared on ebay some time ago and cinemaodyssey saved the image. The photo has a year of 87 on it, but the presence of Jim Tray and Billy Hart in the bottom row suggest it is the 1888 squad. The roster on bb-ref confirms it. https://www.baseball-reference.com/r...gi?id=129b7d13 John Bates is currently listed sans first name on bb-ref's South Bend roster (2 Bates are listed, but this appears to be a mistake), but notes in the 1888 papers in Rockford confirm it is the same guy and it is indeed John Bates who appeared for South Bend. |

Vault Update
We're beginning to see some of the White Whales and White Big Fish show up in the nightly Topps Vault negative postings on eBay (Ed Farmer/Brewers, Stu Pederson, Roger Freed/Expos, Ron Diorio, Felipe Alou/Brewers, Horace Clarke/Padres, Ken Reynolds/Padres etc.)
From this week's trip (which will be the last until they bring in what is supposed to be a 100-player hoard of 1979 negatives from the AL East, none of which are identified, in hopes that I can put names to them) we have these outcomes: FOUND, SOON TO BE SOLD: John Bohnet, Jophery Brown, Rawly Eastwick (Cubs, Royals), Ralph Gagliano (1965 Indians), Jesse Jefferson (White Sox 1975 style), Johnny Lewis (Cardinals), Paul Reuschel (Indians), Gary Ryerson (Brewers), Fred Scherman (Expos), Ron Schueler (Twins), Greg Thayer, Dan Thomas. NOT IN FILES/DOESN'T EXIST/ABANDON HOPE ALL YE WHO ENTER: Chris Chambliss (Indians 1972 style: no photos shot of him that year; the action shot of him used on his 1973 card is the only image of him in that shirt), Larry Doby (Tigers), Dock Ellis (1979 Pirates), Cito Gaston (1979 Braves), Randy Hundley (Twins), Joe Pepitone (Braves, Padres), Lou Piniella (Orioles). NO FILE FOUND/COULD STILL BE OUT THERE SOMEWHERE/BUT DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH: Stan Bahnsen (Angels), Bernie Carbo (Pirates), Pat Corrales (Padres), Larry Dierker (Colt 45s), Woody Fryman (Reds), Alfredo Griffin (Indians), Atlee Hammaker (Royals), Cleon Jones (White Sox), Ruppert Jones (Royals), Jeffrey Leonard (Dodgers), Carlos May (1976 White Sox; Angels), Willie Montanez (Padres, Expos, Pirates) Last edited by Merkle923; 05-19-2018 at 12:54 AM. Finch and Papi
Will do. I have seen some of these things before and they often turn out to be spring training instructors, minor leaguers spending a day on big league exhibition rosters, etc. But I'll be looking for them, and Sprowl, and a few other annoying '79-80 Sox. I have a candid I took of Finch - I'll see if I can post it. The images in that '79 Sox yearbook look like they were photographed by somebody who was too vain to get glasses.

Vault Examinations
Merkle, thanks for all the info - looking forward to seeing what shows up.
Too bad about all the W's and high letters after TE. Are those a lost cause? I'd love to get some nice Vault shots of guys like Roy White, Earl Williams, Del Unser, Dick Woodson, Ron Woods and others who are missing either totally or in some of their unis. FWIW, a few others I'd love to see are Jack Brohamer (esp. 1972), Carl Morton, and Roger Freed (Phillies, Reds). |

Vault's Treasures
Many thanks, Merkle, for the precise reports on your findings in the Vault's treasures. Really appreciated.
Only one demand from me: George Alusik (1958 & 61-64, Tigers & A's) died recently. In January 1965, the A's traded him to the Giants. He was at SF training camp and began the '65 season at Tacoma (53 games) before finishing his pro career at Buffalo (Mets). Could there be a 1965 picture of Alusik with the Giants? Thanks again. |

Terry Crowley (1969)
Was sold by the Orioles to the Rangers in December, 1973 and appeared in spring training with Texas before being sold to the Reds in March, 1974. I'm not really interested in photos where the player didn't play any regular season games for the team, but I know others are
