The St. Louis Cardinals have had to place recently acquired starting pitcher Yunjanyer Herrera on the 15-day injured list after he suffered a strained forearm while pitching in a 10-6 win over the Cincinnati Reds on July 27.
Landed in a trade with the Colorado on July 17, the former Rockies ace lasted just 3.2 innings before being removed after giving up six runs on eight hits.
It was after the game Herrera was diagnosed with the forearm injury.
Right-hander Devin Sheerin will be recalled from AAA Memphis, but is expected to be placed in the bullpen.
Sheerin, 26, has made 11 starts for the Cardinals this season going 1-5 with a 4.66 ERA.
Acquired in an off-season deal with the New York Yankees, Sheerin has struggled in his time at Memphis, going 0-6 with a 6.57 ERA in nine games/six starts.
It looks like right-hander Brett Wichrowski will get a chance to show what he can do as a starter.
The hard-throwing 29-year-old has pitched in 166 games -- all in relief -- with the Cardinals since coming up as a rookie in 2030.
He has gone 19-7 with 34 saves and a 2.36 ERA.

The St. Louis Cardinals have learned that right-handed starting pitcher Sean Hermann will miss from three to four weeks with a strained elbow he suffered while pitching in an 8-2 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on July 28.
It's been a rough season for the 29-year-old right-hander who in 21 starts is now 2-10 with a 5.00 ERA after taking the loss against the Reds.
Right-hander Osvaldo Berrios will be called up from AAA Memphis, where he has been a starting pitcher this season.
With the Redbirds, in 21 starts, Berrios is 0-9 with a 7.76 ERA.
He does have 72 games of MLB experience with St. Louis, all in relief, he owns a 2-2 record with two saves and a 4.19 ERA.

The St. Louis Cardinals didn't take long to decide they didn't like what they had seen from recently acquired starting pitcher Yujanyer Herrera dealing him to the Houston Astros just days after acquiring him from the Colorado Rockies.
Acquired from Houston on July 17, Herrera made one start for St. Louis -- allowing six runs on eight hits in just 3.2 innings -- before landing on the injured list with a forearm injury.
With Herrera due to be a free agent at season's end and the Cardinals quickly falling from postseason contention -- they went 3-5 -- the team decided to see what they could land for the two-time Cy Young winner.
What they got was a 24-year-old infielder who has yet to play in the majors and has a bit of a bad rep.
This season, between AA Corpus Christi and AAA Sugarland, Velez has hit just .234 with nine home runs and 32 RBIs.
He will be assigned to AAA Memphis.
