Requests For Facepack
Going through the Facepack, here are some needs for players that are either in minor league uniforms or a poor representation:
Brian Bark--Boston Red Sox uni Brian Raabe--Minnesota Twins uni Brian Snyder--Seattle Mariners uni (1986 Topps card is side facing) Bucky Guth--Minnesota Twins uni (Color preferred) Buddy Peterson--Baltimore Orioles uni Cal Crum--Boston Braves uni Charlie Brewster--Philadelphia Phillies uni Charlie Caldwell--New York Yankees uni If anybody has anything for these guys that would be a great help! |

Brian Snyder 1985
This is the best I have in terms of meeting your uniform requirements.

Stan Perzanowski - White Whale?
There have been discussions here in the past about what constitutes a White Whale - I believe Perzanowski as a Twin qualifies, as to the best of my knowledge there was no known image of him with Minnesota. Well, thanks to TwinsTrivia.com, here we have him, with teammate Mike Cubbage.
Not near what I need for my 1978 project, but still nice to finally see anyway. If I'm wrong and there are any other images of Stan with the Twins, I'd be indebted to whomever could post them. |

Front view black and white facial image of Perzanowski is what I have, don't know if this constitutes what is required..

A Forgotten Tragedy from 1964
Meet Jerry Hummitzsch.
Hummitzsch, a Wisconsin-based bonus baby with his home state Milwaukee Braves, was the team's top pitching prospect going into the 1964 season. So why haven't you ever heard of him? That because approximately two months after this photo was taken at spring training, Hummitzsch was killed in an auto accident outside of Austin, Texas, where the Braves' farm club was based. He was taking teammate Walt Hriniak, who was celebrating his 21st birthday fishing when his convertible flipped, killing him instantly. Hummitzsch was wearing a seat belt, but reportedly Hriniak was not, and was thrown through the windshield and suffered multiple injuries, including hundreds of stitches in his face. He would return late in the season, but the Braves needed to switch him to catcher beginning in 1965. Less than 24 hours before the wreck, Hummitzsch was the winner in a complete-game 10-inning shutout that he won 1-0 by driving in the winning run himself. At the time of his death, he held a 1.22 ERA, which was leading the Texas League. He had also thrown a no-hitter for Austin in 1963, en route to a 10-9, 3.13. John Mullen, farm director of the Braves at the time, said Hummitzsch was close to earning his major league promotion. To this day, Hriniak has never spoken a word publicly about the crash. Tommy Boggs Texas Rangers 1985
Tommy Boggs was yet another of those pitchers who tried to survive in the majors with less than major league ability. Drafted by the Rangers, he posted a 3.49 ERA in 1976 but went 1-7 in 13 starts. He was lousy in six starts the following year (5.93), went to the Braves, and got two unimpressive auditions in Atlanta before finally making it in '80. These were the Horner-Murphy Braves, just starting to come together under Bobby Cox. Tommy had a good team behind him and he also pitched in luck that year, going 12-9 with a pretty good ERA (3.42). Boggs' IP/H wasn't bad, and he walked almost twice as many batters as he struck out. That was the high point of Tommy's career, though; he went 3-13 in '81, 2-2 in '82, and then came down with the dreaded rotor cuff injury. He had surgery, quarreled with management, and got his release. He got a second chance the next year with his original club, Texas. The Rangers, deep in the madness of the Doug Rader era, were so desperate for pitching that they signed two old grads with aching arms, Boggs and Jim Bibby. Bibby washed out in '84, but Boggs hung in there long enough to get a last cameo in '85 (4 games, 7 IP, 0-0, 11.57 ERA). In truth, Boggs was never really a prospect, and the only remarkable thing about his career is the length of time it took two major league organizations to figure this out. He was a control pitcher who seldom had very good control, his SO/BB being generally as unimpressive as his H/IP. The most similar pitcher was the immortal Brian Kingman; the equally immortal Mark Lemongello was also among Boggs' comps. There are plenty of images of Boggs with the Braves and in his early days with Texas, but here is a rare shot of him with the Rangers in their 1985 uniform taken from an '85 yearbook on ebay.
