Good News from Hall of Fame
Last month, I got in contact with John Horne, who is the Coordinator of Rights and Reproductions for the Baseball Hall of Fame. He shared the good news that the Hall has, after a considerable delay, received a donation or grant to digitally copy their entire photo archive.
As a result, everything (including the entire McWilliams Collecltion) should be online by late spring or early summer. The Hall as a result is not currently taking any orders for prints or reproductions until the archive and transfer of images is complete. That should be in the first half of 2019, Horne seemed to indicate. I'm sure there will still be righits restrictions, but there will be much more ready access to these images. The database I have access to has these Hollowell images listed (and shown) as HH 330-331 and Lahoud images are HH 283-284. Where have I gone off the rails?

O Say Can You (Larry) See (1986)
Several folks I know had Dodgers (and Rangers) short-timer Larry See on their wantlist. This week, the Vault finally gave him up with a couple of nice shots. I suspect many people's list of White Whales grew a little shorter.

Ralph Gagliano (1965)
Mentioning wantlists above reminded me of two photos I picked up recently. Now the Braces seem to be more or less in the public domain (away from family, at any rate), I hope no one has any qualms about posting these. Purchased them from a longtime dealer of autographed photos who picked these up along the way.
Ralph Gagliano appeared in one game for the 1965 Indians, as a September pinch-runner (for Larry Brown, FYI), but the brother of longtime utilityman Phil Gagliano appeared in no other game that season. After spending 1966 in AAA, he served in Vietnam for a two-year tour, but returned to the Indians and spend 1969 and part of 1970 in the minors. He was a bonus baby, the Indians outbidding 16 other teams for his services. Last edited by Home Free; 07-28-2021 at 12:06 PM. |

John Flannery (1977)
John Flannery spent September of 1977 with the White Sox, appearing in seven games (two at-bats, one run scored after walking as a pinch-hitter). He reached the majors at age 20 in just his second professional season. But the White Sox cut him lose after hitting .220 and .181 his next two seasons. He spent the next three years in three different organizations, last playing in 1982.

Gus Bell 1950
Nice Mets shot of Gus Bell that I'd never seen before. It's being offered as an 8" x 10" negative by eBay seller vintage_rock_n_roll.
Inverted in Photoshop so you don't feel like you're in an antimatter universe, and then cropped. The seller has a bunch of other old negatives up for auction. |
