Well, I semi-saw the 10th. I averted my eyes when the Mets were at bat, of course, but when the Mets brought in Brazz for the bottom of the stanza, I glanced at the screen and so caught a lovely montage by MLB of [Orioles guy] being all, "it's only one run, so the Birds have a pretty good chance" over a quick-fire edit of the first two Baltimore batters being retired, before we switched back to Gary C as McNeil fielded final grounder and ended things.
Nice recovery from a slow start, including being victims of an immaculate inning. Would have been nicer if Holmes didn't wilt like a fading flower immediately after getting the lead. Bonus pts to Alex Merillo (the non-Howie radio guy tried to rhyme it with "Carl Furillo", which, no) for neatly demonstrating why, if a man is making his MLB debut at age 28, there's probably A Reason why he hasn't gotten The Call before now. |

Adrian Houser has a 1.56 ERA for the Struggle Sox through eight starts.
That's the Adrian Houser that last year went 1-5 with a 5.84 ERA in 22 games (7 starts) for the Mets.

Well, [censored]! There goes my game.
MLBN is picking up the first game tomorrow, but seeing as how it wasn't originally on the schedule and is only the "alternate" to Scrubs-Twinkies, I doubt I'll get to see it. That's how Carlos Carrasco crumbles, I guess. |

I love Pete to bits, but that was a woeful game. Came to the plate with a pair on base not once, not twice, but thrice, got nothing done, and scored nobody. 0-for-4 in total and looking soul-searching again.
David Peterson was almost amazing, but oh god, he gave up a leadoff single in the bottom 8th with a skinny 1-0 lead and on about 90 pitches thrown! Save the poor baby! Then came Stanek, and left ick stains all over the scoreboard. Monstrous Gunnar gunshot, three walks, thank you for ******* nothing. Mets 1, O-Birds 3.

Once again, MLB taking their sweet time to load a highlights package and House of Highlights rushing out a one-source quickie means I didn't even get to hear GKR, just the new Orioles guy talking to "Mel", whomever that is.
Can we keep this David Peterson? I like him much better than the other one. Of course, the Six Most Common Words in English meant we were on thiiiiiin ice once DP23 got the hook. To quote one of my favorite mes from a few weeks back, Quote:

Part deux of the double header was even more depressing, as the Mets sent up the leftovers, who quickly got rid of an early 2-0 lead and then got hammered into submission.
Highlights included the 11-time Gold Glover in the Mets booth being entirely oblivious of a foul ball wooshing six inches past his head - it's the video that makes it funny! - and I think that's mostly it... Oh yes, Keith can hear it when I pitter-patter over his roof with my paws at night. Put some sausages out, Keith. I'll then leave your lawn alone. Big raccoon promise!

Yes, Keith and the foul ball was definitely more exciting than the rest of the "highlights". At least Keith was in the booth; what excuse did our $1.1 BN worth of SS/RF have for their lazy play? (Yes, Frankie made a good stop on the one grounder, but still.)
When the highlight of the pitching is "Rico Garcia gave us a couple of good innings", we're in trouble. And I didn't catch the final w/RiSP number, but the 1/11 in the first game was a bad omen, overall. On to…Kansas City. Yay? |

If Steve Gelbs wants to inherit Gary Cohen's position one day, then he needs to work on his calls when things get exciting, like the bases-clearing double by Vientos. He can't expect to get the gig through his Chicago Cup Snake fame alone!
Mets win, though, and even though Pete did nothing and was reasonably angry with his firewood, I shall be calm for the next 11 1/2 hours until they play again.

Those who stuck through the rain got to see three games in one.
In Game One, the Mets' bats were dead, and Senga had to dance through the raindrops, until Captain Nimmo cost us a run by trying to dive like the Nautilus when he'd have been better advised to stay upright and keep the runner (going on contact with 2 outs) from scoring. In game 2, the Mets remained inept and the Royals undressed Bra's Open and took the lead. But in game 3, GG Swaggy V saved the Mets' butts and then our Beeeeeeeeellion-point-one worth of stars saved their stats by piling on the insurance. Better late than never, I suppose. Remember, ugly wins count, too! |

Nice game, nice win, and I got to hear KC radio legend Denny Matthews for the first time in the highlight package. (Denny was 26 when he got the job for the 1969 expansion Royals; he's still the lead radio man at age 82.)
A bit of a lucky (ie bad, but good for NYN) reversal on that stolen base in the 8th, but them's the breaks. Both Denny Matthews and KC TV guy Ryan LeFebvre think Frankie's last name should be pronounced "MOAN-tass". I'm willing to be convinced. |

I was nearly a-snooze in the late innings and this morning had to convince myself they actually won by checking the MLB page again

Dedniel will have Tommy John next week, and Max Kranick will see Dr. Meister for opinions.
Going over the top on the First Day at the Somme was less hazardous to your health than being a Mets pitcher in these trying times.

Also, Butto is on a rehab assignment (as opposed to going to rehab, which is where the Mefs seem likely to drive their fans) and Winker is back on the Imperfect List.
In the midst of all this, the Mets tried to slide Rico Garcia down to Syracuse…only to see him snapped up by the Pinstripes. Of course. Sigh. Last edited by Amazin69; 07-20-2025 at 03:49 PM. |

The Mets had their top pick from the recent draft as a guest while he’s on the way to Port St. Lucie. Asked by Steve Gelbs about his #1 strength, Mitch Voit said “being a winner”. Is that the **** they teach kids now? Just visualize yourself being a winner, maybe it will come true…! Hogwash.
Even Gelbsie was lost for words, and Gelbsie was able to do a coherent interview with Beer Snake Guy. Good investment of a #38 pick. I guess they can’t all be Captain Wrights. Highlights were mostly limited to the story of Gary Cohen going to the beach and not going to the beach after all, while the same-same soggy parade of Mets tossers had their heads beaten in. At least none of them drilled fuming T.J. Friedl more than once! (dawdles around the internet while the late innings DRAAAAAG on) Oh look, Voit is the tool that pretended to snort cocaine off third base after hitting a bases-clearing triple for his Michigan college team earlier this year. Where do the Mets always find these “characters”? What ever became of that Tennessee power tool they insisted on trading for from the ‘stros? The name has slipped from me…

First ever career Met to have his number retired. It would be nice if there were more, one day.
(It'd also be nice to win this game. Just sayin' ) Olivia Wright is dang thrilled to be part of the ceremonies, including the first pitch. Her daddy did throw a nice strike to Dave Racaniello (only 45' or so, but still)…maybe we can sign him as bullpen help? I mean, he wouldn't have to swing the bat these days…"thanks", Manfred!
