MLB news: Sept. 30 -- Blue Jays sew up playoff ticket
With a 3-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox, the Toronto Blue Jays have assured themselves a second-consecutive trip to the American League postseason.
Where the Blue Jays fit in has yet to be determined as at 85-73, they lead the second-place Tampa Bay Rays by 2.5 games in the American League East Division with four games left in the season. If Toronto should win the division, it will be the No. 3 seed in the AL Playoffs as both Detroit (96-59, Central Division) and Texas (89-69, West Division) both have better records. The Blue Jays have not reached the World Series since 1993, when they won the second of two straight tiles by defeating the Philadelphia Phillies. |

MLB news: Oct. 2 -- Postseason is in play for Tampa Bay
With an 11-3 victory over the New York Yankees, the Tampa Bay Rays assured themselves a chance to participate in the playoffs.
At 84-76, the American League East Division title is very much in reach for the Rays who trail the Toronto Blue Jays by a game with two contests left in the season. It will be the second straight playoff appearance for the Rays, who a year ago won the AL East. The Rays last reached the World Series in 2020, losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Tampa Bay has never won a World Series. |

MLB news: Oct. 2 -- Brewers wrap up NL Central title
The Milwaukee Brewers are champions of the National League Central Division after a 10-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Brewers (86-74) lead the second place Cincinnati Reds by three games with two left in the regular season. Milwaukee is back in the postseason after missing out last year. Prior to that, the Brewers had played playoff baseball for three straight seasons. The Brewers, who have never won a World Series, did make the Fall Classic in 2030 only to lose to the Baltimore Orioles. |

MLB news: Oct. 3 -- Marlins earn right to defend their championship
A World Series winner a year ago, the Miami Marlins will be back in the postseason after despite suffering a 4-0 loss to the Detroit Tigers, they have earned a wild-card berth in the National League playoffs.
At 85-74, the Marlins sit in third place in the National League East Division, 10 games in back of the first-place New York Mets. But they are second in the wild card, two games clear of the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies, who at 83-78 are tied for the third wild card with just one day left in the regular season. This will be the third straight trip to the postseason for Miami. The 2031 World Series featured the Marlins and the Detroit Tigers, with Miami coming out on top. |
