The St. Louis River Walkers have announced the hiring of Bryan Engelhardt as hitting coach.
Engelhardt replaces Andy Tracy, who left the team after the 2026 season.
Tracy helped the River Walkers reach consecutive World Series, winning the championship in 2025, but the team saw a downturn in its fortunes at the plate during the 2026 campaign.

It's going to be a rough off-season as three of our best players have field for free agency:
Andrew Benintendi, left fielder, he's probably be our best bat since the start of the league in 2018.

Alex Faedo, starting pitcher, he's been the ace of the staff for a few years now and was the 2026 NL Cy Young winner.
Edwin Diaz, closer, combined with Jake Brentz to give us the best bullpen in the MBL the last two seasons. Winner of the NL Reliever of the Year award in 2026.

All four of the River Walkers big-name free agents were given the $15 milllion dollar qualifying offers.
One accepted, second baseman Bo Bichette, who had a rough 2026 season and by the postseason was no longer starting.

Well, my worst nightmare came true.
I was not able to come to an agreement with ace pitcher Alex Faedo, who agreed to a six-year deal worth $136 million ($22.8M per) with the Rockford Lightning.
The sixth season features a player option worth $22.8 million.
I offered $25.5 million over six seasons, but the last season was a team option with $2.5 millon buyout.
I just can't see paying a 36-year-old pitcher $25.5 million to be my No. 5 starter.

The St. Louis River Walkers will be keeping at least one of their three big free agents in the Class of 2027, as left fielder Andrew Benitendi has agreed to a five-year deal worth $75.2 million
Benintedni, 32, will be paid $15.04 milion per season. The fifth season comes with a team option, where they can buy him out for $1.6 million.
Benintendi has been a mainstay in the Walkers lineup since the inception of the Midwest Baseball League in 2018.
He was named League MVP in 2019, and although his numbers have slightly dipped remains a highly respected player with the bat in his hand.
In 2026, Benintendi batted .276 with 23 homers and 86 RBIs.
For his career, he is a .295 hitter with 269 homers and 933 RBIs.

The Fort Wayne Mad Men have announced the signing of right-handed relief pitcher Edwin Diaz to a three-year contract worth $20. million.
Diaz, 32, had spent the previous three seasons as the closer for the St. Louis River Walkers where he earned National League Relief Pitcher of the Year honors in 2026.
During that season, he was 4-2 with 31 saves in 47 games. He boasted a 1.36 ERA.
